Barn Update 1

The horse barn has begun its renovation! It has been a little slow with the weather here being snowy and cold but some progress has been made while we wait for materials.

The stairs have been repaired to be functional as well as the beginning of building the room out for underneath. This room will be for a medicine / drink fridge and also a place for the barn cats to sleep and hang out.

My Old Tattoo Art

Back in 2015 I was a licensed tattoo artist for a short period of time. I went through an apprenticeship and got my license, but let it expire once it came time to renew for a variety of reasons.
Here is some of my old flash, sketches, practices that I kept from that time.

A practice page for american traditional flash, mostly Sailor Jerry style tattoos

The Barn Renovation

I don't have many long standing life dreams, in short when I was a teen I mostly dreamed of getting away from where I was. But one dream I've always had is owning my own land that I could fill with animals and a big garden. Me and my husband Hunter achieved that dream when we bought our current property. I never thought I'd know how to ride horses or even own them, but they are now a huge part of my life. Being such, we've reached a new dream, which is fixing up the old barn that came with ou...

End of Sketchbook & Year

I recently finished off my sketchbook in November. This sketchbook took me 6 months to complete this time around. Here are some of the last few pages for your enjoyment.

Fall Time Update

I've been sick the past two (almost 3) weeks, the main bad part has passed but I'm left with a cough. It's very frustrating for me when I get sick, I like to stay active and have tons of projects I want to do. When I do get sick, it's usually longer than most people around me. I have asthma that thankfully doesn't give me asthma attacks, but it leaves me vulnerable to respiratory infections.
I tend to after a while being sick just try to pretend it isn't there and "work" it away. I don't ...

Rocky Painting Process

I recently posted a video updating on my rescue kitten, Rocky. Here are the steps I took for the painting featured in the video.

Thumbnail Phase

I started with "thumbnails" to figure out what I wanted the imagery to be. This is more loose than something I might send to a client since it is just for me. Sometimes I start this loose just to get ideas flo...

Tomatoes Process

Concept

This piece is much simpler than some, focusing on things I love. My dad had longhorn cattle as I grew up and always grew 6-7 foot tall tomato plants every summer. I would spend a lot of time just hanging out with the cows and helping feed them.

Plop Process

Concept

Plop, like most pieces from my show, are very personal to events in my childhood. This piece reflects on my longing for a home. I have moved constantly my entire life, whether it was from divorce, visitation, our house burning down, or being kicked out as a teenager. All through college I moved every single year, and after that moved multiple times across the country. I still don't feel as though my current house is my home yet and my mind is still anxiously w...

Is It Cake? Process

Concept

I did not set out for this piece to be the marketing image for my show or my favorite piece, but it was. It started out as a very different idea in the beginning, but letting ideas breathe can reap decent rewards. My intention for this piece is themes of guilt and shame. I have personally struggled with eating disorders for a large portion of my life, so the general idea of sweets ands food for me personally already embodies shame. Living on a farm and growing...

Buck Process

Buck is the biggest piece I have ever made at 60 x 48 in.
Here is the process I took to make this piece come to life.

Concept

For my gallery show I wanted a big show stopper painting to take up an entire wall as you rounded the corner. It was a daunting task to even know what to paint, it's easy for me to get caught in the useless hamster wheel question of "what if this is the wrong thing" "what if there is something better". I cycled through a couple ...

If I Don't Laugh I'll Cry

On July 5th I had the opening for my very first solo gallery show, "If I Don't Laugh I'll Cry"
I have been in group shows before and it is cool to see your work amongst other talented artist with a common theme, but there is something special being able to see your own work all together in a room. I usually work on one piece and then put it away for the next piece and rarely see them in relation to another or in a space where they are the focus. It gave me a lot of ideas and inspiration fo...

A Sketchy Book Vol. 2

I have printed a new sketchbook zine called "A Sketchy Book". My previous sketchbook zine was titled "Harvest Moon", but too many people confused it for a video game Harvest Moon fan zine (which is fair). Regardless, I kept it as Volume 2 since it is my second sketchbook zine, even if it is under a new title.
I am making the PDF available here!
