A Soldier's Life - 391 - (edited 5-16-25 +250 words)

Chapter 391:

My physical stats looked about as I expected from the training I had done since Godok. If Konstantin saw my reading, he would probably say I was not reaching my full potential. It did get more and more challenging, the closer a person came to his or her potential. I was also extremely fortunate that my attributes had all been fortified, otherwise they would have definitely reverted when I had not been able to focus train.

World Sphere - 52 - Aegis City

Chapter 52: Aegis City

I headed to the stands to sit with Callem, Wynna, Ennet, my parents, Gareth’s parents, the twins, and Mia. Callem went higher up the stands and talked with Nathan while I got condolences from everyone. My mother hugged me and fingered the hole where the sword penetrated my leather vest and shirt. I guess that couldn’t have been pleasant for her to watch.

The twins were seated behind me and patted my shoulder in consolation. Mia just voiced that I had fou...

Chapter 51: Misguided Guile

The ship landed in the upper city, giving us an easier walking route to the Colosseum. The streets were packed, and excitement was in the air. It was clear to me that the Triumvirate was using the Annuals to help the people forget about the recent Sadian attacks.

Many people were talking about tomorrow's Annual Tournament that was open to everyone. The elite fighters of the islands participated. From what Callem told Gareth, there were 16 participants l...

Chapter 50: Sword And Spell

The beer and wine were flowing freely as we returned to Titan’s Shield Island and our small town. I sipped a mild beer when it was shoved into my hand and watched the ground pass below. Many people came by and congratulated me, but I was more annoyed with having to continue.

Gareth was downing drinks fairly quickly and getting bolder and bolder with the twins. My father said he was proud of me and that he had won 150 silver coins betting on me in my f...

A Soldier's Life - 390 - A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begins With A Single Step (5-14-25 minor edits to Evie's affinities)

Chapter 390: A Journey Of A Thousand Miles Begins With A Single Step

After I wrote out my message to Raelia in the Adventurer’s Guild Hall and paid my silver, I returned to sit with the others. I hoped her family could understand my delay.

“You can’t bring your kids in here!” A rather drunk and stocky adventurer slurred out in a thick Telhian accent. When the locals learned we were Telhian, our warm reception cooled considerably. She took a long pull and meant to come to o...

Chapter 99:

I spent the days leading up to the Incursion working on defenses with Jaesmin at my side. Joy and other NPC children are playing in the background. It was a chance to spend some time with them, and Jaesmin was frustrated by her slow leveling in the Crypt of the Phoenix King.

“I promise to delve with you after the craziness is all done,” I told her.

“The craziness will never be all done,” she retorted, a little unlike her. I paused as the craziness I was t...

((Raelia won th e POV vote but I added a Castile POV as well))

Chapter 389: Prologue

Raelia was coated in sweat, her mother at her side reassuringly, while the old dwarf healer took the bloody babe from her. It was over. Raelia’s heart stopped when the child did not cry. “Delsanra?” Eliyen asked from over Raelia’s shoulder, gripping her daughter’s shoulder tighter, also concerned.

The dwarf woman smiled and slapped the babe’s bottom, and he cried out. “A health...

A Soldier's Life - 371 - The Otherworlders (added about 3300 words to old 371)

Note: I updated the old chapter 371. I will delete this chapter, so you should post comments on the old 371. So this is a draft to show the trials and tribulations the otherworlds went through before meeting the MC. If you hate the otheworlders, just skip reading this. It will probably get another few edits as I fill in from the later plot. The problem I a having is I dont want there to be a book within a book and I am already at 6400 words. But I still trying to humanize the otherworlders. View Post

Book 5 Final Plot Edit

Note: I still plan to write 4 chapters a week on book 7 while the edit is progressing. Book 7 starts Sunday

I start editing book 5 today. If you have plot "suggestions" you can post comments to this posting. If you see grammar or other mistakes, you can post them to the chapter. I read all comments in a chapter before tackling the edit.

So you do not need to reread book 5, I will try to post the planned changes here. The end result is still the same, but ...

World Sphere - 218 - Hints of Trouble

Chapter 218: Hints Of Trouble

Wynna had joined Callem to vet the earth mages, and I was happy the reader was coming. It was not for her ability as a reader but for her ability to read a person. She was an excellent judge of character, and her integrity had survived the Triumvirate families of Skyholme. She had been one of the few uncorrupted readers in Skyholme.

Like old times at the farm, I prepared us a meal during the trip to Llorth. “You have done so much at such a youn...

Chapter 388: Epilogue Renna’s Fate

The babe in the crib started to get fussy, and the sun had only set a few hours ago. “Flora!” Renna called for her attendant. Emperor Octavius had allowed her three attendants, only women. But she only requested one that she thought she could trust. Flora had been in training with the Truthseekers, having recently imprinted her discern truth spell form, and was eager to be freed from her training.

Flora had shared with her some of the...

“Well, that could have gone better,” I grumbled as we were kicked out of the water realm.

Black Beauty laughed at me good naturedly, “You are not the only one who died a few times.”

“Six. I died six times, Black Beauty. That is more than I have died in my entire time in the game so far.” I said as I turned and started walking toward Malcum’s walls.

Although the experience penalty for dying during an Incursion was less,...

I am moving these over now because I usually forget to do it on Monday morning.

I am still digesting the comments at the end of Book 6. All Seraphim comments are fine as long as they are constructive. Seraphim comments for chapter 387 were rough to read through, but I know where you are coming from. I read every comment and try to make the best edits I can in the editing phase.

Please remember that these are the first drafts of the books, and I am writing to connect plot points ...

A Soldier's Life - 387 - Separation Anxiety (edited 5-3-25 +400 words, the changes will still not make the upset people happy, but it adds more detail and reasoning)

Chapter 387: Separation Anxiety

Evie was wide-eyed as her thin frame joined us. Her feather blonde hair was plastered to her head from dried sweat. Lexi had not stirred from her slumber.

“I felt her approach,” Evie said solemnly as she walked to join us tentatively.

“Evie, you need to kill her,” Castile said more forcefully than needed. Although Evie couldn’t understand the words, her tone was clear.

I relayed her words in English. “Evie, you cannot use you...

Chapter 386: The Dead Of Night

I needed to remind myself not to be mad at Evie, at least not openly. She was already in shock, and I didn’t want to wreck our rapport. Blaze exited his room first, tightening his leather bracers. He looked to me for an explanation. “We are leaving now, we are not waiting till morning.”

That was all he needed as Blaze sped down the stairs with Benito and Sylph to ready the horses. Castile was next out of her room. She looked ready for a fight e...

Chapter 49: Just Don’t Lose

“Mia, I am not planning to start a dungeon delving team,” I said with seriousness while making eye contact. Maybe some irritation ebbed into my words too.

“But Gareth said you two had a sponsor with deep pockets to sponsor a dungeon delving team,” she said, confused.

I hesitated because that was an interesting concept. I could probably sponsor a dungeon-dwelling team in secret. My wandering thoughts returned to Mia: “N...

Chapter 48: Up And At Em Campers!

Aelyn came down the corridor, banging a drum to wake us up. Its high-pitched bass was annoying enough to get us moving. She yelled, “Fifteen minutes to get dressed and outside on the grounds, boys and girls!”  She sounded way too happy to be getting ready to administer training to us.

I looked at Gareth, who had my pillow over his head to cover his ears as she p...

I had to put up with Gareth constantly bragging about his meal at the estate of the magistrate. What hurt the most was his claim the food was as just as good as mine. During the meal, he was seated next to his youngest daughter. She was almost thirty, G...

Chapter 385: Swift Justice

I was allowed to attend to the children as Karina was escorted to her audience with Matron Petra. They would still be in attendance but would not be part of the decision. We all followed the tribal warrior, and Karina picked up her escorts. Upon leaving the Blind Raven fortification, the bright light of midday blinded us. My aether sight immediately negated the temporary blindness for me.

I noticed Blaze and Sylph across the street and gave them a short ...

Chapter 384: A Life For A Life

I almost didn’t say anything. I didn’t know the implications of their awareness of Karina and the girls being otherworlders. “Can I give her a healing potion?” I said in English, stepping closer. The potion should replace some of Karina’s lost blood and prevent her from passing out, which she looked very close to doing.

Matron Lucette cocked her head, mildly surprised at me but replied in accented English, “Are you from Gesedmuria?”

I did spend a few hours on the last two chapters addressing some of the concerns. Still need more reworking, especially in 382. When I start editing Book 5 in two weeks, I can hopefully infuse some better reasoning for helping Mynasha and Glasha. The orc boy necromancer may also get a rewrite based on this, and the Khronus interaction is definitely getting an overhaul.

Got caught up in the release of book 4 on Amazon. Thanks to everyone for making the series a success. I have more than half a chapter for both Soldier and World Sphere drafted but I am not going to finish them tonight.

I will start tomorrow with editing the last chapter of Soldier which needs better dialogue and reasoning to make this chapter work and then finishing the next Soldier chapter. The World Sphere chapter will follow in the afternoon.

Chapter 382: It Is All About The Details (title needs as much work as the chapter)

The capital of the Shiunyuet lacked the grandeur of other capitals I had visited. Kwongchun was located a safe distance from the intersection of three rivers, and featured low stone walls interspersed with round towers. Atop these towers sat large ballistae and a pair of bored guards scanning the river and hills beyond for threats. The city seemed terribly indefensible against an organized army, but I rea...

After overcoming my disappointment at seeing the improved obstacle course, we made our way to the barracks building. Aelyn asked, “So what am I going to be doing while you guys are in training for the next year?”

My mind turned over the question. Callem had not mentioned anything, but I was sure he had a plan. “I am sure Callem has something figured out.” Aelyn seemed uncomfortable, not knowing her fate since she was tied to...

Callem stayed in Hen’s Hollow with Wynna, while Aelyn, Gareth, and I went to his farm to rest. I laid out dozens of alarms around the property to practice the spell. The one mistake I made was the one in the bathroom. The spell provided me with a brief two-second image when I focused on the specific alarm being activated. It could be used as a peeping tom spell if desired, but seeing Gareth was not the image I wanted burned into my mind, nor did I w...
