Mini Comic - Dreth Up

Bam! we're back, baby!

and we're kicking off with a nice little comic with the girls! they're off to watch the Five Nights at Freddy's movie!

though, if you wanna know the FULL lore..

Leo and Magna went to watch it on release night, probably the first session since Leo enjoys FNAF, and so does Magna (she knows it mostly from the books, but her and Leo have totally watched Markiplier play on the TV, though possibly not ALL of it because it's a lot to watch).

Small Update!

i just wanted to make this little update to thank all of you for your patience during this somewhat slower period.

i've been a little swamped with commissions (though, as i'm typing this, i'm just wrapping up my last one for now!) and as always, the colder seasons tend to slow down the workflow.

I'm still actively cleaning up comic pages for the big remake i've been working on for over a year now! (can you believe that?) and, my notes are still full of many more mini comic ideas...

so sorry for the delay on this page!
the cold is starting to affect my art capability. it's the ONE downside of the cold seasons.

anyway, this all mostly stayed the same from the sketch!
i fixed Randy's posture in the third panel, by ruining it. he's got that gamer in him.

other than that, it's mostly the same! tweaked a few mouth shapes, and took away that ONE Leo tear when he starts to sing. felt a bit TOO silly.

this time, there's a hand full of changes! firstly, the 4th panel (the closest to the center, Magna's reaction) shifted from a more, aloof/confused look to a more disappointed one! i also added a tiny bit of dialogue to it to help convey how she's upset that Leo got away from her again! (it also helps fill out the page a bit, since it's got a fair bit of unused space (though part of it is to build a bit of atmosphere))

i've had to change the canvas size that i've been working with so that i can get this comic printed as a graphic novel once it's done! it's a smaller resolution than how i was drawing them before, but, to be honest, i was drawing them WAY too big anyway!

Mini Comic - Holding a Grudge

this was an absolute mess of a comic to make!

i wanted to get another Halloween themed piece out and this vague idea came to mind
but i ended up drawing and coloring the pages first, before perfecting the dialogue, so i had to fiddle around with this a bunch!

in the end, it's a bit of a mess of a comic, BUT, it's not terrible!
i was always more of a Christmas guy anyway~

my favorite part about Halloween is being able to draw my characters dressed up as other characters without having to justify myself as to WHY i drew it

it is spooky? not really.
do i really enjoy doing it? you betcha!

sometimes, one big panel of kissing isn't enough, you need a whole second page of smaller panels depicting the same kiss, to really sell the weight of it.

i changed the set up for their first kiss a little bit too! i may still come back to change those record covers in the future and do some small tweaks here and there, BUT

Sorry for the lack of mini comics lately, gang! i've been hyper-focused on sketching pages for my main comic, and i haven't had a lot of free time for the smaller comics. despite only being 4 panels, they still take me around 1-2 days to get through!

continuing directly from the last batch i posted earlier this week, we have a little bit of a chapter break between the bar and Leo showing Magna his void home!

The Adventures of Honey & Shimmy Titlecard

Along with my Funko Pop brain rot, i've also recently finally gotten around to watching Ren & Stimpy!

Although i'm not all THAT invested it in, i still think it's good to get that level of cartoon history in me! i'm super into the gross humor, but it's got a fair share of good slapstick here and there!

Just a little extra this time! I originally really wanted to have that little gag where Magna reaches for the detective hat that she took and questions where it went, since Leo is no longer dressed like one.

sadly, i couldn't find a place for it originally.. but now i have!

so i'm happy that little gag can be included in the full comic. i just think it's so cute!

one more page done, just before the month ends!

now, this one was a little tricky. I wanted to portray a level of confusion in Magna as she was being courted by Leo. not just from his stretchy noodles (which, remember, she's never seen before at this point) but also from the fact that she's starting to piece together that he's asking HER out.

i'm pretty happy with the slight visual shift, but i wouldn't be surprised if i came back to it later to tweak it.

Speedpaint Enjoyers, rise up!

i've been thinking of actually doing a little recording to go along with my speedpaints, explaining some of my thought processes and giving a little more in-depth perspective on what i'm drawing, instead of just slapping a little funky tune on them. Y'know, sort of like a "directors commentary" to make them a little more interesting!

But i wanted to know what you guys think! Does that sound appealing?
Do you prefer my time-lapses to just be the art with a little tun...

Here's a fun little idea that came to mind the other day

i thought it'd be fun to do a little piece more focused on my secondary characters. They deserve some love too!

got a few variants of it, as i was unsure which palette to pick at first, but the first piece is the one i ultimately picked for the "official" one! and i ended up adding a little Leo & Magna ghost, just as a little extra~

Despite having an extremely busy week with little to-no time to work so far, i still managed to squeeze another page out! phew~

quite a few of these panels changed slightly! a lot of Leos expressions felt a bit too similar to some previous ones, so i wanted to spice it up a bit!

the dialogue stayed pretty much the same, just tweaked it a tiiiny bit here and there.
and i made sure to give special emphasis to Magna's "i love these!" to show just another little moment of Leo fee...

Aaah! i'm so happy with how this page turned out! especially that last panel? i dunno, i just love how it looks!

i also changed the 5th panel to have one of my dreaded "double Magna" panels, where i draw her doing a big action, in this case, rolling her eyes along with her head a bit, in just ONE panel
and i always feel like i'm not making it obvious what's happening, but i think i did good on this one!

other than that, one or two dialogue shifts here and there, nothing major...

when you spend 3 hours with a movie, you can't but be completely immersed into those characters, y'know?

plus, i love showing how both Leo and Magna are complete dorks. He's just more open about it~
