Some pics of the stuff I've worked on today. The roads of Whiterun are connected to the ones of Eastmarch and go westwards up to fort Greymoor.
Like you've seen in the title of this post, I'll post the update 0.5 here tomorrow. I *hope* that it will include Rorikstead but as I have to juggle between modding and studying for finals I can't guarantee anything. I'll push as far as I can, this I can promise.

Some news concerning Northern Roads : I'm currently finalizing the Riverwood and Whiterun areas. The road going to the north passing by Loreius' Farm is also done, so it's now possible to go from Riften to Whiterun without walking on the old stone roads !
Now it's time to expand eastwards to Rorikstead. The 3d models for Whiterun are all done so it will go way faster from now on.

It has been a long time, but I'm coming back with Northern Roads Alpha 0.4 ! The Pale is complete and now all of eastern Skyrim is fully playable.
I'll now head to Whiterun which I really can't wait to tackle. Many ideas for this one. It will work as a kind of transition between the styles of eastern and western Skyrim. New clutter will also decorate the roads of the western Holds, so say goodbye to the dragon totems.

Here is the alpha version 0.3 of Northern Roads, containing the Holds of Eastmarch, Winterhold and the Rift.
I recommend using the "Generic Grass Limiter" (found here under misc. files : https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/9005?tab=files ) if you have issues with dirt roads covered in grass.

Finally, all the roads of the Rift have been overhauled !
I'm gonna declutter Winterhold a bit and then the Alpha 0.3 will be published here. I'm really excited to get feedback about this Hold as it took so much time and I've had the opportunity to try many design ideas there. I've also been careful not to clutter it too much. As you will see, the road is practically left uncluttered between Riften and the Morrowind border.

I'm finally arriving at the capital city of the Rift, and the Hold must be about 60% done right now.
For those of you who use "Skyrim Bridges" you can see I've used the same design for the wooden bridge with the two gates. It has always be my favourite of that mod and I couldn't see myself get rid of such good design. So good news for all of you who used "Skyrim Bridges" and liked that one as well !

So it turns out the Rift is a pretty big Hold. The Western part is now done (going from the Alchemist's Hut to Treva's Watch. I still need to finish the roads going around Riften, Shor's Stone and up to Morrowind.
With the time it's taking, I might go with the option of releasing Western and Eastern Skyrim separately. Also, when the Rift is done I will publish an updated version of the Alpha plugin.

Here are two SmoothCam presets for you to play with. I use one for gameplay (you can see it in my last video) and another for showcases (shoulder cam). I plan to release it on the nexus in the future but it's not 100% done yet. In particular, I think that crouching can be improved a bit in the gameplay preset.
You can find it in the Preset section of SmoothCam under the names "JP's Style II" (cinematic) and "JP's Style III" (gameplay).

More progress in the Rift ! I've replaced the bridge of Ivarstead with two short ones and a watchtower (same model I use for the border outposts).
The aspen forests are really gorgeous and the new roads fit pretty well in this area. I'm having a lot of fun decorating the different crossroads and I hope the results are up to your expectations !

I've created new assets for the Rift : these covered crates which you can see in the first picture, and the thin stockades.
The orange Hold is shaping up pretty well and I can't wait to show you more of it !

Leaving Winterhold and going south, we finally arrive in the Rift. The dense aspen forests are a welcome sight after coming back from the frozen wastelands.
The Rift's roads will be less decrepit than those of Eastmarch and Winterhold, while still giving a sense of untamed wilderness. Along the paths, you will see a lot of elements reminding you that this Hold is a playground for hunters and fishermen alike.

Hey, sorry for the delay. This was supposed to be uploaded today but I realised some meshes were still missing collision data.
Now that everything is working as intended, you can explore the roads of Winterhold ! This version also comes with a patch for Cities of the North and Better Dynamic Snow.

New showcase of Northern Roads, this time for Winterhold.
One thing you will notice, is that I've added lens effects to Berserkyr ENB. Now raindrops will hit the screen during rainy weather, and the edge of your screen will freeze in cold weathers. Many thanks to LonelyKitsuune (author of Silent Horizons ENB) who allowed me to use their files and helped me getting this to work.

Winterhold is truly at the edge of the world. Along the roads, you will be able to admire the remnants of the great collapse - or maybe something else ? The Sea of Ghosts is a dangerous place and the many shipwrecks found far from the coastline let you imagine what terrible creatures roam its depths.

I've been really busy last week but I will have a bit more time these coming days. Today I've finally uploaded version 1.1 for Berserkyr ENB with many fixes and changes suggested by users.
I'll try to finish the Winterhold portion of "Northern Roads" this week as well. I will publish an alpha version once it's done so you can explore it all by yourselves.

Here is the latest asset I've created : an arch for Winterhold's roads. I'll add a little more detail but you can already see that I'm going for something bolder or more raw than in Eastmarch.
I've tried using icicle assets as "fences" along the roads. This is leaning more towards high-fantasy and I'm not sure I'll keep these in the final version. I'd really like to hear what you think about this particular choice.

I've started working on Winterhold. I will make use of the nordic ruins tileset more heavily than in Windhelm there, in combination with some new models as well. There is only one main road in the Hold so this first pass will take less time to complete.
Going further north, I'll use some ice assets as well. Winterhold is inhospitable, poor and cut from the rest of Skyrim : all of this will be reflected in the design choices I make. My goal is to make the player feel like they are enteri...

As promised, here is an exclusive demo version of Northern Roads. Eastmarch is 100% covered. There may be little details to fix here and there but this is now in a playable state.
In this version you can also check Riverwood and the road near Fort Snowhawk.

During your travels between Eastmarch and The Rift, you will stumble upon these old border outposts now left unmanned. With the civil war going on, troops are needed elsewhere. However, if the Rift was to fall under Imperial domination you may see these old forts become way more active.

this is a little side-project I started today. This mod will add new (stronger) variants of civil war soldiers.
The Brute looks worse than expected so I don't know if it will make it to the release version. Looks more like a caveman than a soldier, and thus doesn't fit really well.

Another busy day and the first pass for the road to Windhelm is done. I've added a new stone bridge piece, similar to the one used in Riverwood but a bit more elaborate.
I've chosen to go with the mud textures instead of the snowy dirt path from vanilla. The road to Eastmarch's capital must be quite busy in these times of war, the snow will quickly melt under the hundreds of feet stomping over it every day.

I've spent the day working on these totem assets and I'm quite happy with the result. They will be present in Eastmarch and the Pale, maybe Winterhold as well.
One of the goals of "Northern Roads" will be to show the differences between eastern Skyrim (the "Old Holds") and western Skyrim. Here is something to thank you all for your support ! It's the version of Northern Roads (formerly Bridges Overhaul) I'm currently working on. I've stripped it of kelretu's stone pillars (which you can see in my last video) for reasons you will understand.
By checking the bridges in game you will be able to see the parallax effect in all its glory. Also, you will get a better idea of how the roads will feel in the final version and how drastically it changes Skyrim - for the better !
