Thinking about perspective. Both visually and otherwise. One's perspective in life can change, and as it does, it leads to growth. I'm heading into a new year with eyes open, and mind ready for new possibilities.

This was my most popular video of 2022. To be fair, it had an extra boost by being put up on YouTube as well. It started simply enough. I read The Ball Poem by John Berryman and I decided to make a movie. Often when I decide to make a movie with a poem that I like I just read it. On this night I decided to have some fun. The outfit, the lighting, the music, even the mustache that now reminds me of Kermit the Frog in The Muppets Take Manhattan. I like ...

This was a very challenging piece to make. I first learned about it from the "7 Easy Pieces" exhibition that Marina Abramovic put on. Originally conceived and performed by Valie Export in Munich in 1968. It's a complicated piece that resonates as powerfully today as ever before.

I tried this one (or variations of it) many times. The reflection and the light can be very difficult to get right. Add to that the unpredictable nature of matches. It's a challenging video to make and I'm glad that you appreciated it!

Art is everywhere, and I love finding it. One of my favorite "art galleries" is the side of freight trains. Almost every town across the country has a place that you can go and see the traveling gallery. I'm pretty sure that the reason for this movie's popularity wasn't the art on the trains, but it really is a lovely spot that I enjoy every time I visit.

O.K. This one was a surprise to me. In my journey to become better at making movies I try to play with perspective and to look at ways of filming something unexpected. This was meant as a playful experiment and wound up getting a lot of views. It is simple and says little, and at first, I didn't like it at all. Now I have some distance from the day that I shot it, and I can say that it's still not my favorite. However, I like it more than before. Enjo...

This one was very popular and easy to make. Filming in interesting places can feel like cheating when it comes to movie making. I just point the camera and the rest falls in place. I'm very happy with the way that my movie helped to highlight the work of the street artists that had worked so hard before me. I enjoy the positive message and fun/light tone of this move. It's simple and effective.

After giving my letters another fine and thorough sanding, I mixed the blue paint. Everything is drying and I should be able to start assembling all the various components soon!

Feels great to be getting some paint down! I think of the entire process of creating a painting, the first layer may be my favorite part. There's a freedom to how the paint is applied, and it really takes the process from concept to art.

Perhaps it's boring to talk about the weather. So, I won't talk. I'll just show. It was rainy and foggy today. I'm glad it wasn't terribly cold. But it was beautiful, blustery, and moody.
Mostly, I was indoors, making art.

From: Grapefruit, A Book of Instruction and Drawings by Yoko Ono. Conversation Piece (or Crutch Piece):
"Bandage any part of your body.
If people ask about it, make a story and tell.
If people do not ask about it, draw their attention to it and tell.
If people forget about it, remind them of it and keep telling.
Do not talk about anything else."
For this video, I read the instruction and attempt to play along. As I edited, it occurred to m...

Another exhibit of work I saw in a gallery in New York: Big Bongo Night by David Lynch. Yes, that David Lynch (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet)! This exhibit was a serendipitous occurrence. I was unaware of the show at all. Join me for some pics, and the tale of how I happened upon it, in the nick of time.
The quote I was looking for is the following from Catching the Big Fish, "A Garden at Night":
"So I was a painter. I painted and went to art school. I had no interest in film. I would g...
