Using my Reflection

This is the process for the making of the gesture drawings that I'll be creating all month. The actual time was actually about 4 minutes. My aim is to reduce that time as I improve the lines and drawings.

Also on the easel !

It’s been awhile since I’ve given an update on this piece. It’s a bit time consuming, but I’m inching my way there with the fountain pen an a new callous on my finger!

On the Easel

Today's gesture drawing. It feels nice to get charcoal to newsprint again! Of course, since I'm drawing my own reflection, it is going to be limiting.

On the easel

A gesture drawing in charcoal. The great benefit of college was that disciplines like gesture drawings were practiced regularly with a live model. Now, I am my own live model! The idea with this kind of drawing is to work quickly and capture as much as possible with the fewest lines. I’ll be practicing this all month with my reflection!

Sweater Season Jam

I continue to work with the kaossilator. I find that making music in this way is very rewarding. It will ultimately lead to a level of creative freedom for my videos. Meaning that every part of the artistic process even down to the music and sound effects will be mine. It's been fun so far!

Making the Music

Another behind the scenes peek! Earlier, I posted a video of me walking in the "Autumn Woods". When I got home, I made my own sound track to accompany the video. This is my process of listening to a variety of sounds and creating the music that I feel accompanies the visuals!

Behind the scenes.

A behind the scenes peek! Not every idea I have is brilliantly thought through. Here, the aftermath of wearing my "Georgia Voter" stickers as pasties! Slow and steady is key....

Nipple Crack

My "old school" style advertisement for Nipple Crack brand nipple balm.
The finest nipple balm on the market.

If it isn't Nipple Crack, it probably sucks.

Electric Blue

This is a remix! Combining the elements of "Blue" from a few days ago, with an overlay of the electronic hourglass from today. It's always fun to think of new ways to use footage!

The Completion of the Electronic Hourglass!

The first of what will hopefully be many electronic projects is done! Join me in my goofy headgear as I make a few welds, trim some wires and reveal the final project!

I began this project with zero electronic experience. Now that it's finished, I've gained a sense of accomplishment and the confidence for more projects that I can incorporate into my artwork!

When the art show is over...

It got cold today! It was a reminder of continuous change: seasons, days, new beginnings and endings. The art show is over, so what's next?

Slow Walk

Blue

This is "Blue". Completed with original music by me! Created with my Korg Kaossilator2. Just a few weeks ago, I was completely uncomfortable at the prospect of creating my own soundtracks to go along with my videos. I know that the more I do it, the better it will get.

A new adventure!

A new day, a new adventure!

I currently have a couple of tiny projects to complete in order to better understand electronics and the process by which they are made. This is an electronic hourglass.

I like learning new things, and I feel like this is an area in which my education has fallen short. So I'll have to educate myself.

Why? Because I've been inspired lately to incorporate a level of technology into my art. At present, I only have a vague notion of w...

Walk Backwards

A preview just for Patrons! This is the early version of this Friday's YouTube video.

It is the latest installment of the Marina Abramovich Method. This instruction is to walk backwards holding a mirror. I used my camera as my mirror.

I'm finding that many of the instructions in the book really challenge perspective. This one was no exception! The brain is forced to think differently and adapt. It can feel disorienting. The eyes begin to play tricks. It's a mental exercise.&...

Work in Progress: Modification

I took some time to modify some existing pieces. Both are fine on their own, but I felt that the combination of the pieces was more powerful. Taking the NASA sign that I hand built, plus the prop I built and used for my version of "Action Pants" (originally by Valie Export and later done by Marina Abramovich).

The combination is something unique unto itself. Can't decide if I want to call it "Space Force", or "American Icons".

More of Atlanta

I have been enjoying exploring Atlanta lately! I shared here earlier this week a walk through Underground Atlanta. So much fun!

This week's YouTube video features more of Atlanta! If you appreciate street art and graffiti as much as I do, you'll love this walk through of the Krog Street Tunnel!

Tree Pose

Just a few images practicing my tree pose. The graceful oak behind me is one of my favorite trees. Those lower branches really reach and wander towards the light. This Tree is also featured in my painting "Forgiveness". It almost feels like a second figure in the piece! In a way, it is. It's symbolic of time. Looming, reaching. Roots that go deep into the past and branches that reach for the light of the future.

More Underground (Bonus Footage)

Underground Atlanta is definitely one of the strangest places. I would think that its strangeness would be attributed to the fact that it's over 200 hundred years old and underground. But that isn't why. It's strange because it's so lonely. The tables and chairs out on the "street" waiting for patrons. Patrons that aren't coming. The whole place feels like a surrealistic dream.

I was simultaneously completely comfortable (as indicated by my shirt status) and creeped out (you can s...

Tuesday Update from Underground!

It's October! That means it's decorative gourd season! While the days are getting shorter and Halloween approaches, it's my favorite time of year to watch scary movies. If you've been a fan of horror movies since the 80s, you may have heard of Joe Bob Briggs. Film critic and host of "The Last Drive-In". A show featuring a horror film and Joe Bob's funny commentary.

He described Underground Atlanta once in a rambling introduction to the Walking Dead episodes featured on his show. I...
