Selfie Stick Workout

I saw a piece of interesting footage. A filmmaker was exercising in a gym. He was holding a weight as if it were a camera and practicing panning it across a scene. I was inspired to try some "filming yoga".

Work in Progress

In the studio today working on a watercolor painting and experimenting with lighting. I was super well lit in my photo here, maybe too much so! The new lights I have are for better lighting in my videos and photos. With appropriate lighting, I’ll be able to enhance the mood that I’m trying to convey! I clearly have more research and learning to do!

Snow!

Snow is a pretty rare thing in Georgia.  Everything shuts down and the world seems to creep to a stop.  Luckily, we've all had some practice at that sort of thing recently! : )

I was able to skip out into the falling snow and enjoy a bit of it.

It's Cold Outside!

I'm preparing for a weekend of unpredictable weather! If the store shelves are any indication, the impending storm is of epic proportions! But, the weather has become increasingly fickle, so I'm not sure if the projected storm will be of consequence.

At any rate, I've gotten myself out and about for some January walking! Join me for a walk through a small town....

In the sketchbook

I’ve never painted or drawn a pine cone before. Not exactly a thing that’s ever been on my bucket list (ha, ha), but if it had been it would be a great accomplishment today!

In all seriousness though, occasionally I see something and wonder how I would paint or draw it! Such is the case with a pine cone. The best way to figure it out is to try.

I hope your week is off to a great start! Remember to be curious!

Checking out a Coke sign.

I had to visit a neighboring town and couldn't help but check out their Coke mural on the side of one of the downtown buildings!  It's always a treat to find one of these when you don't expect it.

Happy New Year!

I filmed this last night as the sun went down on 2021. Today, It's a new year and I'm so happy that you're here!

Your financial support goes a long way in helping me live my dream as an artist! It buys me paint, canvas and supplies. You being here keeps me creating and accountable.

I am thrilled and excited about the prospects of the new year! I look forward to taking you along on all my creative endeavors!

Bowl

Relax. Breathe.

The noise and busy-ness (or business)  of the world can often distract us from our own best intentions and practices.  I sat down with the singing bowls and found myself lacking.

Sit Ups

Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

Not the sound, the action of doing a "crunch", a partial sit up.

I remembered the workout tapes on vhs and those before them on cassette tape as I exercised. There were pop songs in my childhood that I couldn't hear without recalling the encouraging voice describing the next workout move. My mother played one in particular often.

I shot this footage on the Vivitar Vivicam5160, a camera from some 10 years ago. The footage shot with this cam...

The Monday After.

I'm assuming that I'm not the only one that feels a need to take it easy the Monday following a holiday weekend. Oh, the irony of that...needing a holiday to recover from a holiday!

On the easel

All of my art lately doesn't qualify for an easel, but requires just as much time and attention as a painting. I've worked diligently this week in an effort to create a bit of magic and you get to see it first!

I wish you all the happiness that the season can bring! Your support is my true gift this Christmas!

Behind the scenes!

I'm currently working oh my upcoming YouTube video. I made a snow globe but set out to film it in a unique way!  There were some struggles along the way in finding the right camera. Turns out my DSL cuts out when upside down!

This rig holds a camera and my snow globe on the same plane for filming. So, when the snow globe is upside down, and the "snow" is swirling, the camera is capturing all the motion brought on by gravity!

Mirror

An experiment in using practical effects: a blue light and mirror. While I really enjoy the vast array of effects and video manipulation techniques available in the editing process, this was more about what I could create in the room. The overall mood in the finished product feels mysterious and moody.

Trial and error

Luminarias or farolitos are a New Mexican tradition. They are simple: a paper bag weighted with sand and lighted by a burning candle from within. They are said to have originated in New Mexico along the Rio Grande. At first for the practical use of lighting the roads in the form of small fires along the side. Later, the version using a paper bag became a Christmas tradition. Commonly seen along walkways or on the flat roofs of adobe buildings especially on the plazas at the center of towns, l...

As if to demonstrate an eclipse...

I have been spending a lot of time filming and editing lately. It leaves me constantly thinking about ways to show a story visually. I had a bit of fun with this poetry reading in that regard: I created my own demonstration.

This is "As if to demonstrate an eclipse", by Billy Collins.
