On the easel

The painting is finally finished! The unexpected addition is a glow or halo around the figure. I think it adds a bit of interest and an ethereal feeling!

Another BOOM! complete! I pretty much stuck with the initial idea of green and yellow. Ultimately, I did add their compliment colors for depth, though. There are some orange streaks and the sonic boom circle bits are in a faded lavender.

An Update for Taco Tuesday

There's not much to report this week, just an optometrist appointment. It appears that my prescription is still epic but my eyes are healthy!  I thought I'd share this reading of Gloria Steinam's thoughts on changing aging. The book is, "The Truth Will Set You Free, But First It Will Piss You Off". These words seem to be in conjunction with my own thoughts of late.

A Body in Motion

You never know where inspiration may find you.

"An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force." -Newton

The Missing Pages (Making Dreams Come True)

I posted this on YouTube earlier today.  It was then pointed out to me that not all of my Patrons are also subscribers on YouTube.  If that's the case for you and you're not subscribed over there please do! I try to post fun and interesting movies there at least once a week.  I should have been putting them here for you to see all along! : )

While looking for inspiration I try to remain open to finding it wherever it may present itself. However, this is the first time I'v...

Dance of the Coyote

The coyote is historically considered cunning and clever. A trickster and joker. Generally adaptable.

A Poetry Reading

I got a new book of poetry. In my younger years, I didn't always appreciate poetry, but maybe I just didn't read the right poets. I love the work of Billy Collins. This is "Birthday".

As I drifted off to sleep last night, I had colors and brush strokes flashing in my mind. So I began today a new BOOM! In blue and yellow.

On the easel

Since last I posted this my progress on this painting, I’ve obsessively worked and reworked areas. The proportions of the face were ever so slightly off. Overworked paintings can often become muddy. Which is exactly what happened! As I closely examine the face here, I imagine that she must have gotten into some spaghetti, as a toddler does with dried marinara from ear to ear. Shadows on faces can be tricky especially on the jaw line. If the exact right shade isn’t selected, it can begin ...

Fall Trail

Rain blew through last night and left behind wet woods and a cool breeze. The landscape itself has changed, even from only days ago. The trees are bare. There is still so much beauty to take in though!

"Beaver Moon" Eclipse

Early morning on Friday, I headed out into the cold November air. A cold breeze chilled me through my layers of clothes. It was a struggle trying to find the moon through the massive lens attached to my camera, but there are a few good shots!

It isn't every day that I get up at 3:30, but I'm glad I did!

Sister Shotgun Shave

Advertising is a powerful thing! Marketing isn't always about solving problems, it's often about creating problems consumers didn't even know they had. Standards of feminine beauty have often been defined in such ways.

Imagine a young woman in the early 20th century, realizing for the first time that she should be ashamed of the hair on her body. She doesn't have access to the new products that promise to make her refined, but she's resourceful. Papa's shaving mug, brush and razor...

Talking about the Priestess

I've spent quite a bit of time working on this piece over the course of the past week. Those hours give me time to think about it. The why's, the how's, the motivation behind it. Here, an in depth look at the techniques and approach for my current painting!

From the Chaos

I shoot hours and hours of footage that may never be seen. The content may be disparate in context, intention and style. However, they all originate from ideas that exist, however briefly, in my own mind. Here, an effort to create some order from the chaos.

Taco Tuesday Update

This video is a little late. I'm not sure if it was an internet issue or what, but it took so long to upload! It was going at a snail's pace well past my bedtime last night, and on into the morning.

Anyway, I hope you are having a great week!

Much needed depth and life is going into the figure in my painting!

The second piece is a bit more conceptual. This little piggy was modified by acrylic paint, in the tradition of Duchamp’s “readymades”.

A Tribute to Pinecones

Happy Sunday!

As a kid, I took a great amount of satisfaction gathering things together. Rocks, pieces of aged glass from under the sagebrush (the oldest pieces of glass were purple),  seed pods. Pinecones were especially fun. I had no purpose or use for them, but I would gather them all the same. My favorites were the fresh ones in the autumn. I could tell them from the older cones by their color. The new pinecones are a lovely golden brown, the older they are, the more gray...

Concept Art

I recently came across the words of  Sol Lewitt on conceptual artists. They've stuck with me. So much so, that I really wanted to share a few of them!
