Da'at - Eli's Sketch

Here's a black and white preview of Eli's version of Da'at. He's told me that this is favorite of the Sephirot and it's one of my favorite drawings of his too. You can clearly see where I got the inspiration for the arms for my own version here. Though, my interpretation of Da'at's personality came through quite differently. I'm posting it now partially because I'm putting this and some of his other sketches up on the website for sale.

Tweaking rewards

I just wanted to let everyone know that I've tweaked the reward structure slightly. Most of it is just clearing up the language about what is being delivered and when. In the case of full-res files and process shots, I've been over-delivering on what I promised. That's going to stay the standard. The only omission was to take the monthly hangout off the "chosen" tier because most people didn't seem particularly interested. I'll probably substitute it with another option to chat with fans in the...

Da'at - WiP 3

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. I knew this guy needed to be different than the others in some meaningful ways. So taking away the face feels essential. But I'm also happy that he is shaping up to be the only landscape format image in the Book of Emanations. While color and lighting issues persist, the overall balance of the piece is finally on track. I'm looking forward to finding places to work out the noodley detail that's so prevalent in the series. I'm also totally happy to paint lots...

Da'at - WiP 2

I've created a new sketch that I'm finally happy with. Buuuuut, I've still got some of the problems from before. The biggest issue is that the composition seems basically impossible to solve. The drawing just doesn't fit the format. The cloud pattern behind the head is making me really happy because I emphasizes the emptiness that is so central to the visual themes in this figure. Too bad I'm going to have to crop it. The colors are starting to resolve better at this point, but when I stand b...

Da'at - WiP 1

Woah, the first pass on this piece did not go how I wanted. It was too heavy and blocky. The colors were going in odd places and I kept trying to solve problems by basically fading everything out. Things I'm not happy with: -Face -Arms -Color -Composition -Lighting I made the resolution to abort any pieces I wasn't happy with and make sure that every Angelarium piece was being done out of love and not obligation. This meant starting from scratch with a new drawing. Full-res in the attachments...

Hesed

Simply love, kindness and understanding. The Sephirot that repairs the world with gentle embrace. Forlorn, compulsory, like a deep river or a dispute calmed by touch and remembrance. Like undine tears, that don't fall, they cascade. Formed formless. The measure of simple and devastating things, like warm embrace, forgiven sins and Love. Ephemeral and - I beg your pardon my son, my answers are tangled in the labyrinth of your question. How does one succinctly describe the font from which kindnes...

Israfel, The Angel of Song - WiP

I've decided to pull this out of the icebox and do it as a bonus piece. I haven't worked on a new Seraphim in over a year, so it's really exciting to be poking at this painting again. The primary reason I started working on it again has to do with a licensing project that I'll be announcing sometime in March. Believe it or not, there is going to be a lot of Angelarium content this year. At least one of those projects is not being published by me.

Hesed - WiP 2

I'm already getting close to finishing this one. The background has come together fast, thanks to the fact that it's fairly empty. I've got a lot of detail on the sliver of ground plane without spending very much time on it. It's something I'm going to do again because it instantly makes her feel huge. It's a goal I've had in the past, but studying Beksinski's paintings more closely has given me more insight into how to achieve the effect that I'm shooting for. The color palette is making me ha...

Keter - WiP 1

This is the point where I stopped for a while and switched my attention to doing more drawings. I sort of thought things would go straight forward from this point, but it's already starting to diverge from this composition after letting the image simmer on the backburner for a week or so. I never saved out of a full res version of the piece when it was in this state :/ That was before I set up the Patreon account.

This was the first Sephira that I took a crack at after Eli. I set it aside after getting a rough color pass on it because I wanted to try out a lot of ideas before I settled on the direction for the whole set. Full-res version in the attachments.

Keter - Eli Sketch

This was one of the first drawings that Eli shared with me from the whole series. It's still one of my favorites and ended up being a cornerstone piece for the Sephirot.

Binah - Eli

Here's Eli Minaya's version of Binah. It's a concept that really spoke to me. "All things, in all forms, under all light, are given shape. Under this axiom, potentiality falls away. A Song must begin, Thunder must crash from above, the Sun must rise(All from potential.)If existence blossoms in a Palace of Mirrors, the Light cast there is called Binah. -description of Binah Unknown"

An early work in progress for Binah. I definitely figured out what I wanted out of this piece early. The values and the overall composition change very little from this point. Full-res version is in the attachments.

Malkuth - Eli's process shots

This is the raw inks for Eli Minaya's version of Malkuth. Early on in the process, Eli showed me a concept that was very much like the original drawing I had done for Malkuth with a more geometric head. I've put that in the attachments. There are some things I really like about it and it's weird head kind of reminds me of Eva Unit 01.

Malkuth - Progress and History

This is an example of the sorts of progress shots you can see if you become a backer. Click the attachment to see the full sized image. This piece was surprisingly straightforward. Despite not having a lot of content in the sketch. In the first step, I have already chopped off the head I drew initially. It was a weird set of geometric shapes, but it wasn't pleasing me and it didn't really mean anything. I tried to imagine what would mean more to me as an image. The orb with a city inside spoke...
