Problem is, I have a particular plan with how Fiona eventually comes out to Lisa, so for plot purposes, Felix is just going to continue being an idiot about this topic until that happens.

Robin tries out Adeline's magical powers!

Adeline's spells are emulations. Like a Dungeons & Dragons Wizard, she can cast the spells she has memorized for the day, and the enchantment that makes Robin Adeline does its best to mimic those Wizard spells the best it can.

Also, for the longest time I had wavered between Robin holding on to the book and Robin destroying the book. Robin storing the book in a pocket dimension was a recent idea, and it's opened out some possibilities for the next story after Heart Guardians where Robin could now potentially use the book to find people in need of her help!

At one point I was considering making the game so that each side saw the other as possessed demons, but then Lisa and Fiona wouldn't have seen themselves as demons.

Also, that last bit of info from Sophie might set up Craig's next attempt to attract Lisa's interest, but I haven't figured out quite how he might use that info.

Toby bumping into Scott and causing Scott to save Cassie wasn't exactly important to this series of events, it was just Toby's magic saving Cassie for the sake of Toby.

When I decided that the monsters in this dungeon would be charmed soldiers/villagers, I realized that our heroes wouldn't exactly be heroes if they worked their way through the dungeon murdering everyone! Therefore I decided to emphasize the game-like nature of this fantasy world by giving players the option to attack in a non-lethal manner (using weapons that should be lethal).

Given that I have four days, including to weekend days to get the Monday Strip ready vs three days that are all weekdays to get the Thursday Strip ready, I'm thinking that maybe I should move Being Fiona to a Monday & Friday Schedule and then Heart Guardians to a Thursday release schedule.

Anyhow, here is an NPC to introduce Craig and Sophie to their side of the quest! And because this is a game, she is missing some important parts of her armor (can't have a helmet if it will hide her face!)

Originally the story was going to jump over to Craig and Sophie right after the last strip, and Fiona's demon reveal was going to be delayed for a bit. But in the next part of this arc, Fiona and Lisa were never given a chance to talk about how it feels to be a demon. So at the last minute, I decided to slide in this strip.

Heart Guardians Part 21 - Panels 17-32

I had to re-write the latest Being Fiona strip, so I've decided to swap it's update slot with Heart Guardians to give myself another day to get that revised strip finished.

Anyhow...

Big reveal here about Toby and Robin's relationship! If I have time one day, I might make a comic that tells the story in more detail of how it goes (although it doesn't really have a good happy place to end the story), but in short the original timeline before the Shadow-man's actions forced Toby's magic to subconsciously intervene went like this:

• Cassie becomes a Heart Guardian, invites 16 year old Rob to join her team. Rob becomes a female Heart Guardian much like Scott did.

• Rob takes advantage of his female Heart Guardian form and starts a double life as Robin, Rob's out-of-town cousin who's visiting for a while.

• Deciding to prank Toby, Rob in disguise as Robin, flirts with Toby.

• The prank goes wrong and Robin finds herself developing a crush on Toby, but Toby is too occupied with chasing all sorts of girls and doesn't want to commit to any one girl.

• Rob comes out to Toby, convinces Toby to date her, but Toby has trouble keeping his eyes off of other girls. (Or does the magic prevent Toby from remembering that Rob is Robin?)

• After a rocky relationship, Robin and Toby get married, and Anna transforms Rob permanently into Robin as a wedding or engagement present.

• Toby really loves Robin, but struggles with his womanizing. Robin separates with Toby a few times because of Toby's cheating, but constantly forgives him despite her better judgement.

But none of this happens due to the threat of the Shadow Man killing Rob if he becomes a Heart Guardian, so Toby's magic awoke early, changed the course of fate to save his future love, and put Robin on a different path where she will have a happier life.

Originally I was going to have another strip before this one of the demon girl seducing Fiona, but it felt like filler, so I decided to skip to Fiona immediately throwing off the demon.

I also wasn't sure about Fiona's dialogue, I considered making the first bubble "I appreciate the interest but...", "You're cute but...", "I have a feeling you don't have my best interests at heart," or "I have a feeling there's going to be something sinister behind your kisses".

"Sorry, but..." just felt more simple.

Heart Guardians Part 20 - Panels 163-190 [Chapter End]

Edit: Sorry! I uploaded and scheduled this to release ahead of time and put the wrong date!

Edit 2: It looks like I forgot to include panels 163 & 164 in last week's update, so I added them to this week's.

I suppose I could have had Tabby call Evan as well and also not get an answer (since both Evans are in their Heart Guardian forms, but that felt repetitive. How I pushed Tabby into deciding to go to Robin's apartment feels heavy handed, but it also does serve as a hint to what Tabby's particular talent in magic is, so I suppose it is okay?

Since this is a VR game where the user experiences what happens to their character directly, I sort of imagine that the game adjusts itself to suit each player's comfort zone. So, some players might experience a more intense version of what just hit Felix while others might experience a more tame "I point at you, and now you are frozen in place" version of the attack.
