Arcade Lucario – Composition notes

A composition works by piling up many layers of information with a common goal in mind. Usually many of these layers are invisible and artistic choices looks arbitrary but have a logic beneath (sometimes).

Above some of the main problems I encountered and how were resolved for this particular image.

Head Construction Examples

I'm not very fond to rigorous guidelines and step by step methods as a way to construct characters, but tracing own made rules and guidelines over drawings (or photos) is fun and a good a exercise to help training the eye to search for certain elements while drawing.

These elements could range from looking for unity, basic volumes, sizes, to developing an aesthetic sense by watching shapes and proportions that are repeated once and once again on different pieces.
