Content Sneak Peek

Although I am far away from releasing any betas for Zombie Exodus: Stronghold, I thought you may be interested in seeing content before it's released. The scene below occurs in chapter 1.

If you have an idea for another option, please let me know.

---

As you glance up, you see the figure advancing, its form becoming more pronounced through the murky haze. They take a few staggering steps forward and then become visible. The creature appears as a living night...

Rachel - Interactive Story - scene 2

continued from scene 1

Rachel darts across the street, her boots pounding the pavement with an urgency that cuts through the early morning quiet. The ambulance before her is a twisted wreck, its exterior marred with streaks of dirt and blood, the reflective decals peeling off from the impact. The vehicle's front end is crumpled against the telephone pole, the metal frame bent at an unnatu...

Outbreak Scenario 7 - The Neighbor's Dilemma

As the outbreak unleashes chaos across your city, you're barricaded in your apartment when you hear the desperate screams of your elderly neighbor from across the hall. She's been like a grandmother to you, always kind and caring.

Outside, the sounds of sirens and groans of the undead fill the air, painting a picture of despair. The police and National Guard are stretched thin, barely managing to hold their ground. You know stepping outside could mean facing the undead head-on, ri...

Jaime and Woody - Scavenging Mission

Wednesday, June 1, 2012

The crisp morning air of the junkyard was slowly warming as the sun climbed higher into the sky. It was just past 10 AM when routines began after a communal breakfast. Jaime and Woody, having finished their meal ahead of the rest, moved purposefully towards the armory nestled within the main house's protective walls. The breakfast had been spread out on large folding tables set up outside the RV on the western side of the compound, a space now dotted with empty p...

Content Sneak Peak

People often ask if romancing multiple people will ever lead to conflict. Below is a scene if you romance both Jillian and Bailey. For context, you tell your team to split up to scavenge a floor of the science pavilion in Central Colorado University.

---

As you begin to navigate down the hallway, Jillian and Bailey unexpectedly join you, their presence contradicting your earlier command. You turn towards them, "It's better if we split up and cover more ground."

Jillian steps...

Zombie Exodus: Stronghold

Last year, I worked on Zombie Exodus: Stronghold for StoryLoom, a studio created by Pixelberry. It became one of the top games at StoryLoom, and I appreciate everyone who read it and made it so popular.

As you may know (and I have reported), StoryLoom is shutting down for good. Here is the press release.

Because StoryLoom is shutting down and they are removing ...

Games by JimD Newsletter – Game Updates, Romantic Content, Stronghold

Welcome to my 76th newsletter! Happy New Year. I wish everyone luck in the new year and hope you had a great holiday season.

This is going to be a strange newsletter. Some developments at the end of last year still confuse me. Everything is fine with ZE: Safe Haven and Deadbury Academy, but StoryLoom is no more. I'll give more details below, but it's a good news/bad news situation.

I will also discuss romantic content in my games and how I want to do things in th...

Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven - Mission Poll

From playing earlier parts of ZE: Safe Haven, you have seen that I provide some missions as part of the main storyline, while you are given choices for other missions.

For example, you must go to the train yard to meet the Graves family and must go to Safe Haven: Lancelot. However, in Part 2, you are given choices to go to a farm with Madison and Brody or a gas station with Reilly (and Gina, Dante, and your nephew).

As I am writing Part 4, I can see that some new missi...

Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven - Romance Content Poll

Currently, ZE: Safe Haven is rated for Teens, for Drug Reference, Violence, Blood, Suggestive Themes, and Language. Content related to Romantic Interests is extremely popular, and I have scenes that are more suggestive and even mature.

However, I'd like to know how to handle such content. Here are the paths I could take together:

Subtle Romance (Teen rating): Crafting scenes with suggestive undertones, keeping explicit details to a minimum. Romantic moments would ...

Rachel - Interactive Story - scene 1

Dawn cracks over Nightfall, the first rays of sunlight creeping over the suburban sprawl. In her modest two-story home, Rachel moves with a purpose drilled into her over years of service. Her mind is a whirlwind of what-ifs and when, the news of the outbreak gnawing at the edges of her trained calm. It's not whether it will hit Nightfall but when.

She's already in motion, stuffing a duffel bag with the essentials: MREs, dehydrated food packets, bottles of water, a first-aid kit...

Content Sneak Peek

You cautiously enter the room, the door creaking on its hinges. The space unfolds into a small college classroom. A whiteboard clings to the wall, while numerous student desk chairs are haphazardly pushed into one corner, some broken and discarded. The large desk that once belonged to the professor lies overturned, its legs broken, a testament to the chaos that ensued here.

Debris litters the floor: papers, a spilled backpack, a shattered beaker. But what draws your attention is a cage ...

New content Poll

I sometimes think that Safe Haven is a bit too complicated. Although I am not going to change the game to make the professions and skills system less complicated, I am thinking about future development and the types of characters people enjoy playing.

Using the list below, choose 2-3 of the top professions you have enjoyed playing in the original Zombie Exodus and in Safe Haven or would like to play. I will also be including professions not formally included in either game.

ZE: Safe Haven Sneak Peek

In chapter 15 of ZE: Safe Haven, you will need a scavenger in the town of New Breck (19yo solo survivor). Right before meeting him, you may find a locket with sentimental value to him. Considering your MCs, how would you react when he demands it back?

I am also interested if you have ideas on a choice not listed below.

Johann's eyes widen as you show him the locket. He frantically reaches for his neck, realizing something's missing. "That's mine!" he shouts. "Give it bac...

Please vote below and the character(s) you would like to see in the story. The story will start on the day of the outbreak and will likely have the character(s) in their own unique story that takes them away from the main group depicted in ZE:SH.

Outbreak Scenario 6 - Urban Hideout

You're in your small apartment, nestled in a large city such as New York, Toronto, São Paulo, or Paris. The once vibrant urban life is now a haunting mix of alarms and distant screams. With only a scant supply of food and hygiene products, you face a dire situation. The news reports a rapid spread of the infection, and the government's quarantine efforts seem futile. Graves Family - The Ultimatum

Enola Graves woke up in the dim light of dawn, the air cool and still inside the converted train car. The rustling of sheets revealed the absence of her husband, Eric. She sat up, rubbing her eyes, the train car's confined space familiar and oddly comforting. She stepped outside, the sharp tang of morning air mingling with the scent of earth and metal.

Outside, the railyard was alive with the morning routines of survival. John, her brother-in-law, lounged atop another train car. He wore...

Content Sneak Peek

Below is an excerpt and choice from the start of chapter 15. It involves searching Daisy's Daycare center.

---

Stepping inside the back room of the daycare center, you tread lightly, your movements careful and deliberate to avoid any unnecessary noise. The room appears to be a storage area, with shelves lined with supplies—cans of paint, stacks of paper, and boxes of toys. Some shelves have toppled over, their contents spilled across the floor. Cobwebs drape over forgotten items...

Games by JimD Newsletter – Game Updates & StoryLoom Ending?

Welcome to my 75th newsletter!

Happy Holidays, everyone! I love this season, especially extra time off from my 9-to-5 job. Having not taken a vacation since May, this break is a welcome change. Rest assured, I'll continue working on all three games currently in development, though some changes are ahead in 2024. More on that below, but the gist is that I'll be ceasing my work with StoryLoom come the new year. This shift allows me to dedicate more time to ZE:SH and Deadbury Academy. This...
