The Howda video tutorial is coming right up!

Hey everyone, just wanted to prime you all that the Tomb Kings Liche Priest Howda video tutorial is coming up just around the corner and will be available to all my main supporting tiers! This one is a great video to help with the illustration of stone work, jade, and getting those stained old scroll works. Either for your own Howda, or easily to be used with other Tomb King or other models that have these elements on board!

Have a wonderful rest of your day and we will see you tomorrow...

From the Desk: Wee bit of Plasma!

While I’ve been working on this Knight Castellan, I thought I’d take a sequence shot of this simple and effective plasma workflow that you can apply on your tabletop miniatures. Here is a numberical step by step along with each image.

1. Have the remainder of the weapon painted and for more drama on the OSL, make the gun housing dark. In this case I painted it with a deep blue mixed with black. Then take white and cover all the coils. I mixed AK white with some white ink for some ...

Troggth King - Final Project Conclusions pt.4

This final part of the Troggoth King will be a video discussion with me going over the various aspects of the completed miniature. Discussed multiple aspects of the model I liked, and other elements I disliked, and went over lessons learned as valuable takeaways.

From the Desk: Troggoth King is Complete!

There we have it, I've finally reached the end of the Troggth King and what a sense of relief, along with the joy that comes from completing such a big model. As I reflect on the large GW models I've done, there is so much to learn from going through these big projects. Each one presents different challenges to overcome, new tweaks and expanding techniques, All going towards making a better painting, and more importantly, making me a better painter. There is a lot to go over and I'll be doing...

Drukhari Mandrakes

Games Workshop has kindly sent me a preview box of the new Warhammer 40k Kill Team Nightmare, and I've chosen to paint up one of the Drukhari Mandrakes included in the set! I break down the 4 key elements of this painting into the Cloth, Skin, Hair and OSL Flame from his hand. All suited techniques for the tabletop, so I can finally get in a few games with friends who play Kill Team every Tuesday down at my gaming club, The Spire!

From the Desk: When ideas come together

It's been full steam ahead on the brush this past week with more updates to the Troggoth King and his latest tutorial on painting the face. And to give you a little update, I've added more features to his face that are now past the tutorial. Just on the head alone, I've given his lower lip a more defining warm purple, added saturation to both his ears and nose, and added more yellow saturation to his eyes with deeper purple eyelids surrounding to add to the contrast. Black Forest Green has be...

The Liche Priest - Bone Dragon Cont pt.4

Coming right up after the Bone Dragon is the all-power and important Liche Priest who is needed to awaken the dead! In this tutorial, we look at more specifically the undead skin that is stretched over his face and the tattered cloth that flows all over the priest's body. Get ready to make some small marks with stippling, and little shape adjustments and watch your charge! His face is tiny, but admittedly really fun to paint. At least with a tiny model, there are fewer areas to paint and it ...

From the Desk: Liche Priest

It's been a hot minute since I've done one of these updates so I thought I'd share with you all what's been happening besides what's on video. These past few weeks have been a bit of a strange one with some crossed emotions filling my feelings on the brush. On one hand, I've been missing playing games on the tabletop, especially with my friends down at the Spire club (where my painting studio is located). Looking at all my miniatures which are still on sprue and awaiting to be painted in the ...

Troggoth King - Head x Horns Pt.3

Good morning everyone and welcome to this week's tutorial as we take a lap back to the Troggoth and visit the King's head! These big trolls certainly have a lot of fatty n round facial features, leaving us plenty of room to add textures and expression with our brush. And that is exactly what I planned on doing with this miniature!

Here you will learn about my creative choices with a sculpt that sets me up for this method, and how some simple techniques stacked together in sequence help...

Update

I hope you are all having a great week with the added excitement of Adepticon, the new model reveals, and hopefully a great time on the brush. As you may have noticed there is no tutorial this week due to my needing to spend time with family as I honour the passing of my Grandmother Bak Fong Jung 曾碧芳 ❤️. A loving connection to my Chinese heritage has inspired me to look into my past and also explore her life through photographs and stories. It is a...

Tomb Kings Skeleton Dragon Body

In this tutorial, we take another lap of painting bone with the Skeleton of the Dragon. Working with some altered techniques to create the texture of bone, but more suiting towards an entire body structure in comparison to the skull found in Part 1. Make sure to stick around till the end with my conclusions of this painting process and how it compares to the skull, and as always I've book marked each chapter in the video for your ease in jumping and studying sections. This will be the last of...

Leman Russ Battle Tank Pt.2

As promised the follow-up part 2 of how to paint the new Leman Russ Battle Tank for the Solar Auxillia set in the Horus Heresy is here! With this we get more dirty by adding all manners of dirt, grime, corrosion and mud in the mix. Also to mention, even if some of the elements on the tank seem to jump and re-visit sections in the video. This is due to the planning and stages of each effect as the tutorial is laid out in a linear fashion. Meaning that this is all presented in sequence to how I...

Leman Russ Battle Tank pt.1

Hey everyone and thanks for being patient for this weeks tutorial. Games Workshop has kindly sent me the new Solar Auxillia set along with the brand new Leman Russ Battle Tank. A much needed refresh and taking a nice pivot to get my hands back on with some more scale modelling realism style of painting. So expect to be working with a lot of mediums, enamels, texture pasts and pigments to create these sorts of effects.

Tutorial Update!

Rumbling in this week will be something for the armoured tread heads and lovers of grime! Where I can't exactly say what will be featured this coming saturday, but what I can tell you is that it's going to be the start of a new multi-part series all about painting tanks! In part 1 you can expect a full detailed work flow of airbrushing camouflage, enamel wash to build contrast and atmosphere, and finish things off with a detailed chipping guide (See the sneak peek picture above).

Emerging from Hybernation UPDATE!

Hey everyone, it's been a week since I've landed back from Japan and I the worst of the jet lag is over finally! While sluggishly recovering and doing my best with some less-than-restless nights, I'm coordinated and back on the brush! It's been a while since I was painting the Troggoth and honestly, it was actually from a lack of feeling I was getting from the miniature.

Sometimes there are projects in which you kind of psych yourself out, stall on a roadblock and simply have a so...

Of course it will come when this Jet Lag finally washes away and I can get back t...

Final preparations before take-off!

Hey all, I just wanted to lay down a few announcements coming to the Patreon, my travel plans, and some painting updates to share.

First off I want to thank all of my followers and paid subscribers to the Patreon. The start to 2024 has been tremendous with my largest spikes in growth since I started both Patreon (July 2023) & also the Pro Palette classic (my website). Being a full-time artist, teacher, and creator is a labour of love, sacrifice, and balancing that chequebook s...

Tomb Kings Skeleton Dragon Gold NMM

To top off the Dragons crown, we get right into the techniques and colours used in this Gold NMM tutorial. This style and method lends itself to a great finish that isn't as blending laborious but still includes a lot of interest and illustrates its reflective properties well. Most of the NMM Gold in this Tomb Kings army will be made this way. If there is more interest or rather I'm feeling a little change-up is in order, I may explore another method or two depending :)

Skeleton Dragon Head

The new Bone Dragon tutorial starts with the Dragon Skull, and how to create the weathered and worn bone texture that is present throughout the sculpt. In future parts I will be covering the remainder of the skeleton body, the NMM gold, Liche Priest, and the Howda on which he rides upon.

TOMB KINGS SKELETONS

Hey everyone and welcome to my army painting guide for painting the Skeleton warriors of Khemri set in the Old World of Warhammer Fantasy. Welcome the new year by raising the dead!

Coming into 2024 has been filled with a LOT of skeletons, and not the ones in my closet! Games Workshop has brought back a beloved game of Warhammer Fantasy with the return to the Old World, rather the World of Legend. I can't tell you enough on how excited I am to be getting fantasy back and all that it encompasses. Where the Age of Sigmar from a miniature standpoint I think has GW's best miniatures overall, the game itself and the story has never captured my imagination enough to take the p...
