Augustus wasn’t at lunch or dinner that day.
Augustus wasn’t at lunch or dinner that day. Pandy fully expected that he would see her out at some point so he could explain what was going on with the papers – they were technically hers, after all – but he didn’t. He also wasn’t around for breakfast or lunch on Sunday, at which point even the children had noticed. But while wild speculation ran rampant, and entirely reasonable suggestions about going to visit relatives...

Pandy startled into full awareness when Thaniel squealed and clutched her to him. The plush rabbit dropped to the floor, forgotten, and Thaniel buried his face in Pandy’s fur. “Bunny, you’re back!” he cried, and Pandy twitched her whiskers against his cheek, making him laugh.
Isidor rolled over in the other bed, his black eyes seeming even darker against the faint shadows beneath his eyes. He...

Today, I finally sent Broken Knife to another publisher, Legion. Their application requires a lot more work, but they have a much faster turnaround than Aethon, at around 5 weeks. I applied to Aethon on July 8, but they can take up to 90 days (or more, going by comments) if I'm going to hear back from them, it should be by mid-October. Five weeks from today is September 12, so I'll know about Legion by the beginning of October for sure. I'm still hoping to hear from Shadow Alley, who...

Pretty soon now, Pandy is going to start spending a good amount of time away from the kids. This brings us to the eternal question: Who Said What Now?
The first option is, of course, to continue with Pandy as the sole PoV, and have people tell her what she missed when she gets back. The second option is to pick a second primary PoV, and stick to them when Pandy isn't around. Third option is to jump around to whoever's convenient.
To be clear, these would probably be one or two-ch...

Augustus circled around to Pandy’s side of the desk, none-too-gently nudging her out of the way. Pandy backed up, then darted forward again and grabbed the pile of dresses. Yes, she was definitely just moving them out of his way, not concerned that they would be damaged. Not at all.
The chancellor fiddled with the box for a moment, swore softly, and the lid flicked open. Rather tha...

“I’d very much like to see what you bought,” he told her, and Pandy followed as he led her back up the stairs again.

Luca was almost comically relieved when Pandy showed up. He glared at the uniformed man who had been blocking the door, gesturing in Pandy’s direction. “See? Here she is. Now let me through.”
The servant glanced toward Pandy as well, his face going carefully blank as he bowed and stepped back, though he didn’t quite move enough to allow Luca through. “Ms. Wellington, are you expecting this…person?”

In Gacha Love, the year was divided up into twelve months, each containing a tidy twenty-eight days, which were broken up into four seven-day weeks. There were four seasons, just like on Earth, and three of those months fell into each season. That made for a year of three hundred and thirty-six days, and when those three hundred and thirty-six days had passed, the game was over.<...

Apparently, Isidor had no sense of curiosity whatsoever
Apparently, Isidor had no sense of curiosity whatsoever, because when Thaniel returned right before lights-out, all he did was say, “Glad you’re feeling better,” and roll over to go to sleep. Thaniel himself slept surprisingly well, given that he’d snoozed most of the day away, but he was probably still working through whatever the healers had dosed him with.
The next morning, however, both Thaniel and Pandy realized ...

Thaniel napped off and on the rest of the day
Thaniel napped off and on the rest of the day, though by lunchtime Pandy was fairly certain Timon and Mistress Rose were slipping him sleeping draughts in his ‘small, light meals’. There was no way the Thaniel she knew wouldn’t have been stir-crazy after an hour with nothing to do. Lian had recovered his usual cold detachment, which he liberally applied to everyone except his brother. Pandy, for one, was glad to be ignored, though she ...

Mistress Rose’s prediction turned out to be remarkably accurate
Mistress Rose’s prediction turned out to be remarkably accurate, and shortly after the bell rang to send the students to class, Thaniel groaned, then tried to roll over. He was groggy, but very clear that he needed to use the bathroom. Timon helped him with that, in spite of Lian’s clear displeasure, and by the time the boy returned to his bed, he was beginning to look like himself. Pandy was actually left al...

“How is it possible I didn’t know?” Lian said, for once looking no older than his fourteen years. He was slumped in a chair beside Thaniel’s bed, where his little brother was finally sleeping thanks to a draught provided by Mistress Rose. Pandy was tucked beneath the blanket beside the boy, since Thaniel had almost panicked when they tried to separate her from him, so she coul...

Everyone turned to stare at the princess, and Geraldine blurted out, “But you can’t be!”
The person Pandy noticed, however, was Isidor, who turned a sickly yellow color and looked like he might vomit. Quickly, he stood and moved toward Eleanor, saying, “You haven’t even had your-”
Eleanor’s head lifted, her eyes flashing fire at her bodyguard. “I have!” She looked around at the others, and said, “A few days after my sixth birthday, Lord Winston showed ...

Pandy was far too distracted by her own thoughts to focus on Thaniel’s classes the next day. In fact, for the first time, she actually wished she could stay behind when he left. She had a lot to think about, and it was difficult to do that with a minimum of ten children around her, tapping their fingers, smacking their lips, or scraping their chairs over the floor. Mr. Rowe’s exercise-obsession was more annoying than amusing, and she only remembered that she was supposed to ‘work’ at ...

That night, Pandy practiced Spark until it reached level twenty, at which point she gained an extra two points of Intelligence, and one more point of Fire Affinity. She’d taken to casting the spell inside a tipped-over metal trashcan that she rolled under the bed, and the inside of the can was noticeably scorched. Her Spark grew slightly brighter and hotter with every level, but after level twenty, things changed drastically.
Pandy stared into the smoking recesses of the trash can, sh...

When Pandy found the five children outside, they had obviously already tired of waiting for her. Thaniel, Geraldine, Lord Winston, and Abbington were running in literal circles for no apparent reason, periodically shrieking at some self-proclaimed success. Brook sat beside the princess, while Eleanor had forgotten her dignity for a moment, and was laughing so hard she was clutching her sides, eyes nearly squinched shut. Only Isidor was doing his best to remain unmoved, and a small smile still...

So, fun thing about LitRPG Con, there was almost no information about it except for when, where, and who until approximately two weeks before the event. No idea what kinds of events would be held, or if we were all just going to be milling about, asking each other what we'd read and if we wrote anything.
Then, two weeks before, we get a Mysterious email with a link to a form which basically asks what kinds of games we like, and when we might be available to play a game like that.

It's late, but I was having a heck of a time getting photos to upload at the con, so I wanted to drop these before you see too many others and just don't care anymore 😅
I went to a bunch of panels (listed below, along with participants) and the main thing I realized is that a good moderator makes a huge difference 😂 I learned that Matt Dinniman sometimes writes the same scene several different ways, then just releases the one that's craziest. I also discovered that I'm very much T...

Today we had opening ceremonies, which was pretty fun. You can tell the guys up there were friends, and there were some pretty good roasts. I went to a few panels - one on writing fight scenes (definitely a weakness for me) and another for "RoyalRoad to Revenue". That one basically boiled down to "make connections and keep writing" 😅
We bought several books (autographed oc!) including DCC, which made me wish I'd bought it in paperback, rather than ebook. Ah, well. We grabbed dinner ...

Tomorrow, we head for Colorado and LitRPG Con. I won't be able to work on Lucky Rabbit until next Tuesday, but I'll try to take some pictures and let you know what I'm up to, since it's author-related. I have a bunch of cool panels to attend, but I have a terrible confession to make: I'm deeply terrible at names. Like, I know Matt Dinniman, because I haven't been living under a rock (in spite of my best efforts) but otherwise I'm going to have to check and see what these folks wrote. I've rea...

At breakfast, Augustus announced that classes would take place as usual, which made some of the children groan, since the day was beautiful. Instead of going outside, they would spend the morning cooped up in their homeroom classes, a disappointment that their chancellor instantly picked up on.
“Perhaps your teachers can plan outdoor classes over the course of the coming week,” he said, and the students perked up again, though the teachers didn’t look quite as enthusiastic. Still,...

That night, Pandy sat beneath Thaniel’s bed, staring at her array of treasures. Thanks to the fact that she retained ten minutes of ‘human-time’ after reading to Thaniel and Geraldine, she’d finally been able to retrieve everything she left in Ms. Wellington’s office, and open all of the containers. She still had a precious sixty seconds left, which she planned to use to reorganize once she was done looking everything over.
First, of course, was the most obvious: money. She ha...

Not surprisingly, the chancellor had other things to do than continue entertaining Pandy – if that was the right word for it. Given that he seemed to spend most of their time together laughing at her, she thought it was more likely that she would be entertaining him. Either way, he politely but firmly set her on her paws and bid her farewell as soon as they returned to the landing outside his office, not even giving her time to shift back to human form in order to return the gesture.

Pandy’s mouth opened, then closed again. “That… You mean, she’ll get to come to Knightmere now?” Her mind spun. How would this affect Clara’s relationship with the boys? After all, they probably weren’t all that interested in girls yet. Plus, they were supposed to have a little more time to mature before Clara was dropped in their midst.
She thought about Lian, Edgar, and Kaden, who were the only ones she’d met so far. Lian was pretty much exactly as he would be...

Man and dragon listened intently until Pandy finished, neither moving nor speaking. This time, she left very little out, and Professor Beeswick didn’t even flinch when she told him she was fairly certain he’d been killed, though he did look mildly surprised. The only thing she really held back was Killian’s identity, saying only that the murderer was a masked person who had managed to summon a demon.
That pretty much narrowed it down to Dark mages, since she didn’t think it was ...

This was particularly distressing for Pandy, who was stuck at two hundred and ninety-four Corruption Points, and had really hoped to get more. But it was what it was, and as long as Suzanne wasn’t too upset, she would get more points at lunch and-or dinner.

Eleanor seemed as lost as Thaniel, which reminded Pandy that in spite of the princess’s kind heart, she hadn’t actually had real friends be...
