"Bad" Drawings

Hey friends,

I hope your day’s going well! It’s been incredibly foggy and humid here lately—definitely "stay-inside" weather. But that’s given me the perfect excuse to dive into some new projects. Right now, I'm working on a guide to perspective drawing, focusing on the 10 most common mistakes I see artists make and, more importantly, how to correct them. I've had this idea in mind for a while, and I’m finally bringing it to life as an eBook/PDF!

Perspective drawing can...

6 Hours Left to Claim these Original Paintings

Hello friends,

Friendly reminder: the auction for these two original paintings closes in just 6 hours. I know that buying an original piece of art is a significant investment, but I made these paintings with meticulous care and attention to detail, over many hours, and it would mean a lot to see them go to someone who truly appreciates them. If you're interested, you can place your bid here before time runs out: View Post

HUGE art drop: 9 new paintings

Hello friends,

Remember how I told you I was working on my calendar paintings? Well, here they are! I might leave them over the weekend, come back with fresh eyes on Monday and make a few tweaks, but they're 99.99% done! It has been a sprint these past few weeks, but I'm incredibly proud that I pulled it off. It's becoming a theme, me rushing to finish my calendar every year.

The calendar pre-order is starting on 2 October.

Next week, I'll be on a bu...

Summer so far

Hello friends, I hope life is treating you well!

I can't believe it's already the end of August. Summer is still going strong here, and today especially, leaving the house feels like walking straight into an oven. So I've been taking thing slowly these past few weeks, working at my own pace and in secret, because it's just easier for me to focus that way. But it also means that I haven't been able to give you an update, so here we go now!

I'm getting towards finishing this year'...

A Weekend in Berlin

Hello friends!

I hope you're enjoying your summer. Things are fairly uneventful over on this side, except for a short trip we took to Berlin last weekend. How this journey came about was a bit of an accident, and it's a perfect example of my lack of organisational skills. It started out like this: Last year, in 2023, my partner and I embarked on a journey to Norway. We had booked an early morning flight from Berlin airport, around two hours from where we live. So to make sure we wouldn...

Lots of Sketchbook Pages

Hello friends!

I took some time to scan and clean up sketchbook pages yesterday. I don't know how many of these I have previously shared in one form or another, but there are definitely some unseen ones in the mix. I'm a bit sad I haven't had as much time and energy for sketching lately (working on the calendar, tabling at Dokomi, and continuing driving school after my failed attempt), but looking through these always reminds me of how much I enjoy the smaller, low-pressure drawings. So...

I failed, but here's a sketch I like

Hey friends!

Remember when I talked about my driving test? Well, I didn't pass. I didn't do terribly, survived the autobahn, didn't miss any traffic lights or stop signs or anything. But apparently, I couldn't maintain my speed, and kept accelerating and slowing down all the time, which interrupted traffic flow. The report I got is actually a bit funny because it has a big red dot next to "driving straight". :'D
So yeah, now I'll have to wait for the next free appointment (likely in...

Life Lately

Hello friends!

This summer, I don't have any big trips planned; I'm just going to stay here, and enjoy my little garden. Maybe some weekend trips here and there, but that's about it. So I'm just going to keep sharing photos of it, as it changes throughout the season. New flowers are constantly popping up, and right now it's filled with daisies. I'm still planting and building things, and watch it all come together. By now, I have addressed almost every corner of it, and removed or chan...

More new artwork!!

Hello friends, how are you?

Secretly, I've been working on this year's calendar project. The concept is "cats sitting in weird places", and these are the first two paintings in the series. Coming up are: bookshelf, laptop keyboard, flower pot, drawer and some others. Do you have any more suggestions that would be cute?

I don't know, for some reason I just love painting cats right now, expecially if they look a bit derpy. Thanks for bearing with me!

Moody Hydrangea Painting

Hello friends, I hope you've had a good weekend!

I'm going to leave this painting with you. I recently finished it after abandoning it for months and months. Back then, I just couldn't get the face to work. But after taking another stab at it, I'm finally ok with the result. And since I just planted a blue hydrangea in my own garden, and it's been raining for weeks, this painting seems like the perfect fit.

I hope you like it!

Garden diaries

Hello friends!

I don't know if I've ever mentioned it, but May is my absolute favourite month of the year. I love spring with its light green leaves and blossoms everywhere, and I'm happiest in mild, sunny weather! So I'm having the time of my life right now.

Last year, I got myself a little garden, but shortly before the start of winter, so I actually couldn't spend any time there. However, now is the time; 2024 is my year of gardening! Ever since I came back from Japan, I've b...

Brand new painting

Hello friends!

How are you today? It's a bank holiday here in Germany, so I'm enjoying a construction noise-free morning.

I'm excited to show you a new painting I just finished! It's for the upcoming Animanga show at Haven Gallery, so it's still top secret. But I wanted to share it with you nonetheless!

The show was the perfect fit for me, with the decription being "An artistic exploration of the subculture of anime and manga as artists explore thematic m...

7 Cat Paintings

Hello friends,

I hope you've had a fun weekend! It snowed here, which is crazy, considering that it almost felt like summer just a week ago. But here we are.

Thank you so much for your patience while I got the paintings ready! Scanning and editing them took more time than expected because I can't turn off my perfectionist tendencies when I edit scans. But in the end, I made it, and I can finally show you the story of the little cat delivering a bento box. The images are in order...

My first exhibit, and cherry blossoms

It's been a while!

When I first arrived in Japan, I did so well recoding and sharing my experiences, but as time progressed and the deadline for my show approached, I went straight into painting mode and managed to do little else. However, now that I'm back at home, I have time to look back on the second half of my stay and the creative residency, and of course, I want to share it with you!

At this point, you must be thinking "Where are the paintings?", and rightly so. I made se...

Hello from Japan

Hello friends!

I don’t even know where to begin, so how about this: I’M IN JAPAN! Besides some sketchbook pages, I’ve selected a few photos that capture what Japan feels and looks like to me, as well as one of my currect workspace, and a snapshot of a random, magical moment in which I'm holding some pigeons in Kamakura. I still can't fathom how this happened.

It’s been an adventure as it's the first time I’m actually here all by myself, navigating the language barrier, t...

Sketchbook Pages

Hello friends!

I posted a sketchbook tour video yesterday, in which I flip and talk through my entire sketchbook, so please check that out!

But if you prefer still images, here are some of my favourite pages I've drawn in January. I think I like the collection of old-timey oil lanterns best.

Full Sketchbook Tour & Commentary

Hello friends! I hope you're doing well.

Since the sun came out, I decided to film a sketchbook tour video. I flip through the entire book, talk about my inspirations and share the backstory for lots of the drawings. I also dicuss my general approach to sketching. I hope you like it!

Many of the drawings are included in the mini art book that's currently available through Kickstarter, as an add-on to my new art book. 2024-02-12 09:00:06 +0000 UTC View Post

Two new paintings in progress

Hello friends, how is your week going so far?

I just bought a new sketchbook yesterday, and I'm so excited to get started on it. Maybe I can make this a habit and do a yearly sketchbook from now on. I would love that! It's been too dark to film recently, but when the sun decides to come out, I'll film a complete sketchbook flip-through video for you!

Besides that, I started working on a few smaller paintings that I'll eventually finish in gouache. These are two of them. The ...
