28 Portrait Challenge

Hello friends!

Since I haven't done inktober or anything like that in a while, I felt like giving myself a challenge to draw some quicker illustrations throughout February.

I'm not going to use the prompts though. They're just there in case you need some inspiration.

Please feel free to join!

New work in progress

Hello friends!

This is a little something I've been working on. It's heavily inspired by Sailor Moon and a little venture out of my usual natural colour palettes.

I hope you like it so far!

"Hazy Shade of Winter" Timed Edition Prints

Hello friends! Before winter is over and all the snow melts, I wanted to make sure to offer limited edition prints of Hazy Shade of Winter. The piece is inspired by my love for snow and train stations and it also tries to capture the feeling of sharing a fleeting moment with strangers.

Prints are available until 1 February.

Granny & Cat - Final Illustration

Hello friends!

How are you doing today? I hope you had a good weekend.

I just completed this painting that I've been working on for a little over a week. It feels really nice to pick up the pace a bit and get more illustrations done. They're all Japan-inspired at the moment because I'm planning an imaginary trip that might or might not happen in late 2021 - depending on how quickly we progress out of the current situation. (And of course, I'd only go if I'm sure it's safe.)<...

New work in progress

Hello friends!

You're the first ones to see the new illustration I'm working on.

Seems like train stations are my thing at the moment. Probably because I haven't been able to travel. I've been watching so many travel vlogs in anticipation to finally being able to go on adventures again! It's definitely my number one thing to look forward to post-covid. How about you?

And the title is one of my fav songs!

New Work in Progress!

Hello friends,

I'm taking a little break from my project Phantasma to paint something that I just feel like painting right now.

Yesterday, it snowed in my town for the first time in... years I think? It made me so happy! If you're living in the city, it can be so dull and grey during the cold months, but snow makes it all look soft and magical.

And I also wanted to paint another train station. There's just something about them that I really love. They're pl...

Christmas Break

Hello friends!

Now that the year is coming to an end, I'm going to take it slow and pull back from my usual schedule. I think I'm still going to be painting a bit but I can't guarantee if I'll be sharing anything. BUT I am going to be back at the beginning of January to bring you the rewards.

Now I'm just looking forward to relaxing, watching some movies, having good food, and reading a bit. And I also started studying kanji (for real this time) and so far I'm still really e...

Phantasma - Finished Illustration

Hello friends!

I hope you're having a nice weekend.

I've been working on this piece non-stop over the last few days and I thought it was either going to be one of my favourites or I was going to hate it. Buuut I'm happy to report that I really, really like the result.

I actually went back a few years to some colour explorations/studies I did when I just started getting into environments (2020-12-19 14:54:38 +0000 UTC View Post

New WIP & Phantasma Update

Hello friends!

Do you know that feeling when you have a plan for something and you're determined to work through all the steps and it's going really well, and then one day you wake up and it all seems like a terrible idea? Well, that happened.

I had this whole plan how I was going to tackle my Phantasma project and I wrote it all down. Step 1: Make ALL the concept art for the characters, locations etc. Step 2: Refine the story and break it down into scenes and frames. ...

Cloud sketches

Hello friends!
Here's another set of quick paintings. I wanted to explore different shaped of clouds and lighting scenarios. Super relaxing and fun to do!

Water sketches

Hello friends!

I spent today painting water because I wanted to get better at it. It was a lot of fun because you can get pretty creative with it.
I also wanted to practice using light colours with a bit of hue variation here and there. And I also paid attention to my brush economy. Rather than painting over areas multiple times, I planned ahead and tried to be more efficient.
I'm pretty happy with the result.

I hope you like these!

Concept Art: Mountains and House Yard

Hello friends!

I know I keep repeating myself, but: Here is some more concept art for Phantasma!

Throughout their journey, the characters visit this little village, deep in the mountains. The villagers grow their own food, out in the fields and behind their houses.

Mountain Village: Concept Art

Hello friends!

I'm just making my way through all the concept art I need to finish for Phantasma. There are so many key locations that I need to visualise and it's really fun to see them come together.

I also made a schedule of what still needs to be done so that I can stay on track. I want all the environment pieces done by the end of the month. Fingers crossed!

Phantasma Forest - Concept Art

Hello friends!

I'm back at these quick Frankenstein concept pieces again. At this stage in the development of my project, I just want to visualise important locations, so that I can later on refer to them for reference (you know, once I actually get going with the story).

I hope you like this!

Seth: Character Sheet

Hello friends!

I went to the city center to go grocery shopping today, which turned out to be a big mistake. I completely forgot that it's Black Friday and it was insanely crowded. But once I got back I got to work and this is the result.

I just finished colouring this page and it has taken me quite some time to get here. I think Seth is the character I ended up redrawing most often and I went through lots and lots of failed experiments before I ended up with the facial feat...

Leigh & Hope Character Sheets

Hello friends!

These are the first two character design sheets I've completed. It was a lot of fun to explore different expressions and to finalise the designs. I also LOVE anything that has a cohesive colour scheme. So this is really satisfying. I hope you like them!

Phantasma: Character Line-Up

Hello friends!

How are you doing today?

I've been working on this for about a week now and I think I finally have all the characters where I want them to be. There are many more to come (to make up for the lack of male characters, among other things), but these are the most important folks at the beginning of the storyline. From left to right: Jun, Gran, Leigh, Seth, and Hope.

I'm preparing individual character sheets for each of them that include a couple of facial ex...

Leigh, Eiki and snow

Hello friends!

I'm slowly but surely getting in the winter mood. The goal for this painting was to do something quick and winter-themed. And since I'm completely immersed in my project Phantasma, I figured I'd draw Leigh and her owl buddy Eiki. It's all a little messier and looser than usual, but I still like how it turned out.

Procreate says this took me 4:39, which isn't bad, compared to my other work that takes me forever. Let me know if you want to see the process ...

Village - Concept Art

Hello friends!

I hope you're not tired of these yet. They're just a really great way for me to visualise the whole project - or at least the main locations. Since Phantasma is essetially a travel story, I plan it according to the differents "stations" the characters hit on their journey. And this is one of the first ones: A quaint mountain village, surrounded by rapseed fields.

I hope you like it!

Phantasma Forest - Concept

Hello friends!

This was a fun one. Took me around two hours to put together and it's very much how I imagined the forest to look like. A little bit like the forest on Yakushima Island, but more mossy. I hope you like it!

Tree House Interior - Concept

I recorded the process for this one because so many of you asked to see it. But let me tell you, it wasn't fun at all. Made the whole process 3x more stressful. So this will be the first and last video for these photobashing concepts. Sorry!! I will send it out with the rewards at the beginning of December.

Seth Clothing Design

Hello friends!

I've been playing around with some designs today to make Seth's clothing a little more interesting and concrete (?). Before, he's just been wrapped in lots of fabric, which I wasn't too excited about.

I might also take another stab at his hairstyle and facial features. I know I have shared versions of these characters before, but I'm not married to their designs and I'm making revisions until I'm able to capture the right feel for them and their personality.&n...

Leigh's Tree House - Concept

Hello friends!

It's all coming together and I'm super excited about it! There are just so many places and characters and story moments that I want to show you. They've been living in my head and I love seeing them finally manifest.

This is Leigh's tree house. It's hidden in the forest where the first part of the Phantasma story takes place. Imagine a very small tribe of people living high up in tree houses. They're close to nature, spending their days fishing and forag...

Phantasma - Forest River Concept

Hello friends!

Since it's NaNoWriMo, I finally decided to fill in the gaps in my Phantasma story. The overall story arc and major plot points are there, but I actually have to sit down and write the thing at some point. So I figured, why not now! With the lockdown and everything, it's kind of perfect.

That means I'm going to use this month to do research, plot, write, and create concept art to visualise important places and characters - anything that p...
