When studying more abstract stuff like this, I find you need to think about perspective and form even more in a way because unless you're careful about where you put the details, the design falls apart into a mess of angles.

For a hastened doodle, I think the resemblance is alright-ish. I should spend more time on an RLM themed drawing one day. Mike would make a good Lucian Freud model.

I showed this to David and Ethan when they were animating, on how to make animating into held drawings less clunky looking.
First inbetweening so that it gets progressively slower before finally stopping. The spacing chart, on the left, shows the easiest way of doing that, by inserting an extra inbetween drawing, and then again, and then again, so that it halves the momentum with every drawing, before finally stopping. The next trick is to have the character blink just before stopping. T...

A few action-packed storyboard panels by David McDaid. Not many posts lately due to working on this storyboard some more, but there's more stuff to come!

Rough tune centred around a Mellotron with various kinds of filtering. It could probably do with breaks here and there, a better beat, and more structure, but hey ho. The horns came from a trip to Cardiff when suddenly a horde of footy fans came about with their airhorns blaring.

Drew these a year or few ago and only just came across them now, looting through my old drawings for any inspiration.

Thought I'd piss about with a Pepsi-Cola sponsored vinyl record from the 70's to see if there was anything worth sampling.
Hardware used: Jasper Synth, Tone-Bender Fuzz, Jake Rothman's phase shuffler, Zoom Sampletrak, Goodmans GSP 400, a snare drum (they're pretty hard aren't they?)
Samples used: Non Stop Pepsi Party, I forgot which but a Hammond organ cover record for the single pitch bended organ note throughout

I started another tumblr blog for plonking animation cycles from Bob Godfrey cartoons both 'cause they tend to loop nicely, fit in the .gif well, and I love his cartoons.

Hi all,
I figured that 'cause I've used the $5 tier reward so rarely I might as well get rid of it. I might put it back in future when I get more productive, but for now there's not much point in it. A fair number of you are donating $5 and I'm very thankful for that and I don't blame you for changing it later, but yes thank you all very much for the donations so far.
Currently I'm going through my years of doodles and separating the ideas and seeds of creation from the usual doodl...

The moral of these two comics (or of their production) is that you should have an idea of where the story's going to go before you start drawing it. I wanted to draw a comic, so I did, only to realise by the end of the page I didn't know what the story was.

I must've done these sometime in 2016; I've posted this one here before although the quality of the photo was terrible, so here it is again.

David McDaid did some nice abstract designs based on the Aesop's Fable so I thought I'd try my take on his take.

I tend to doodle even the stupidest ideas in storyboard form just in case it turns out to fit a particular context in a future story. You never know!

Not the most interesting expression to draw, but once Harry was reading, that was the only time I could attempt to draw some detail while he wasn't moving. Still, I think I captured his likeness.

Using a convolver VST (ReaVerb for example), you can use these to put your affected sound in that environment. Feel free to use these, though credit's always encouraged!

I caught the convolution bug. Had some fun recording various impulses of different places. So far only got the basement, an echoey room upstairs, and the click of a megaphone turning one. Combining all three and adding it to some distorted music makes it sound like a deserted shopping mall running the same music out of crap horn speakers long after the neutron bomb dropped (or something like that I don't know), anyways convolution impulses are a lot of fun and something that's been missing from ...

Funny how the lo-fi aliasing of the Sampletrak made the Technics organ whistle sound almost like a ghostly voice so that's fun.

The first recent attempt at a Sampletrak beat for a long while, so it's a bit clunkier but still rather funny with a Roobarb tuba sample for the bass line.

Zoom Sampletraks still go relatively cheap these days and they have a good gritty sound like the overpriced SP-1200 or MPCs. Also has a lovely "Resample" function which adds to the grit. The built in sequencer's pretty awful though ( despite the unusual and charismatic swing function) and it's not easy to mute other sounds while a pattern's looping so forgive the repetitious nature of this track. Very fun and quick to get out a quick beat of this little machine.

Here's a tip: keep an eye on the spaces between the bits of your subject and especially within the subject too. Is the triangle, enclosed inside the armpit, elbow and wrist, the same sort of triangle as in the photo? etc.
Also don't chicken scratch like all hell like I have here, save that for subtle inbetweening.
