Unco-operative Llama
Another quick Natron thing.

Making some Clip Studio brushes that incoporate the new tablet's tilt feature. It's hard to really control, but it's nice being able to alternate betweent really fat lines and really thin lines, based on the tilt and pressure rather than just pressure alone.

Inspired by a concept piece by my sister Isabella, who's always helpful when it comes to song names and visuals.

I'd like to say this is my first proper-ish album because I put some care into the presentation and mastering of these tunes. But they're tunes ranging from around 2013 to 2018 cobbled together. Hope you all enjoy!
If you want me to generate Bandcamp download codes so you can have it with streaming and such, message me and and I'll send you one. Not really sure how it all works. Thanks everyone!
I've been putting together an album of my Soundcloud uploads and some extras, even though I plan to revisit some of the songs in future. Although, some tunes I'm thinking I could scatter about in future releases if they suit the mood. Sadly, some song's I'd like to revisit won't be possible 'cause I've lost a lot of the original sounds. There's no "mood" to this album, it's all a mixture of things and it's over an hour long with song lengths ranging from 50 seconds to 7 minutes...

Got the new music set up in working order (for the most part; some weird problems here and there) and acoustics still need sorting. But here's a jam I did with it!

This is while I'm moving to another room and sorting everything out (it's a lot better than that photo now). I've modified a TWSBI ECO fountain pen to have a Jinhao fude nib instead, so it's a lot more fun to draw with. It looks scratchy, but that's mostly my problem; if I draw slowly and deliberately I can make nice smooth lines. I'm also crazy for Searle's art so there's that.
I picked a daft time to accept another XP-PEN tablet for review, when Pencilmation work's suddenly stacked up...

I wanted to capture the look of a man who's spent 30 years watching executive filtered mass produced pap media, and another 10 criticising all film against that standard. (These are just doodles; it could have turned out better if I did some roughing). I don't like that last one very much.

Commission for Thomas Brooks of one of his characters. He's an excellent animator worth looking up!
(There's an alt. version to go with the stylised logs a bit more, with a flat background).

As everybody's favourite celebrity animator recommends, I thought I'd give it another go. The idea is to build the drawing from the ground up, like the steps in the Preston Blair book. I'm certainly better than last year or two, but God, my proportions are appalling. Imagine making the same mistakes when drawing from life! (I don't have to imagine)

On a particularly prolific-nothing day, I drew a fair bit. I've also made use of a corkboard and started doing a storyboard the old fashioned, pinning drawings up, way. It does help, so hopefully got a story coming along!

Scribbly lines is about the extent of what I can do with this scratchy fountain pen, but it is rather interesting.

My sister had an idea for a melody so the ending to another tune has more or less become its own thing. This is also using the Behringer UMC1820 and "quiet" PC build which seems to be behaving now. Very sloppy mix/structure still, but I'm happy with the bass sound.
Oohs by Isabella Rothman.

I saw the video with the dancing turnip and felt like doing a similar thing in an hour or so (again still seething about that Behringer audio driver, I don't think the computer's to blame).
EDIT: updated.
Duke 209 doodles.
For now I'm annoyed with my audio PC build; the "silent" power supply is resonating the case, and either the CPU isn't powerful enough or the ASIO driver's rubbish because I'm getting clicks and pops constantly with the audio. And this is after all the optimising of power performance and thread prioritising. Argh!

Another Natron concept piece for a cartoon idea from a while back I should revisit. Very close to what I have in my mind, but it takes so long for me to render previews, I can't really hone the colour correction to exactly what I have in mind.

This time going for a grungy anamorphic look. It's hard to tell in this, but there's some lens distortion going on (like wide-angle anamorphics do). In After Effects if you wanted to do that to a scene after it's been composed, you'd either have to zoom in, or end up with the edges being cut off. In Natron, I can shift the layout so it fits the project size, but not have the edges cut off until I want them to. Hard to explain, but that was super helpful.
The Windows version of Natron is...

This was made to unwind after making sounds like this during the few hours I was organising the past 7 years worth of files into a new hard drive.
A friend I showed this to referenced the AVGN Cheetamen Megadrive review where he says the music sounds like something you'd slip on a banana peel to.
Edit: slightly updated the tune

I guess it's political, starting off as a criticism on the government's original plan for coronavirus, but now I find it just funny to look at.

After Effects is quick and easy, but there's a few times I've bumped into "oh you can't do that" and generally it's bogged down with lots of ancient effects and VFX stuff I'll never use. The layer's can be limiting too. Adobe's just shit now anyway, why are people still using their software? They're the next Nero.
Like anyone else who may have searched "After Effects alternative" or "compositing software", I bumped into Natron. It's open-source, and node-based (like Nuke). I did a littl...

I figured it'd be nice to do a drawing for patrons who have been around long enough to make a significant contribution over time. Waiting for a couple responses, but here's Seanatar's and Felicity Morland's!

The body will probably have is own layer. And the head singing, and hands strumming at different speeds, will be on two layers above that. That's going to be a mind-melter.
Hope something becomes of this particular reanimate. It seems to be going to a crawl.

With recent chatter about Ronald Searle surrounding the Molesworth film being made and his 100th birthday, I attempted to make a "model sheet" of the Fox from 'Six Animal Plays'. The problem I had with the Molesworth teaser is that all of Searle's unique shapes are turned into Preston Blair easily reproducible shapes. After drawing this, I don't blame them.

This didn't turn out exactly how it looked in my head, but it's an exploratory concept drawing and I'll do more once I have some subject to tackle.

Made a serendipitous discovery. My 12F 16:9 format (with the centre being 5 inches above the bottom pegs) fits horizontally inside my 16F 2.39:1 format, just by adding 2" each side. That should hopefully mean wherever I position the top and bottom pegs should be compatible with either set up. 16F is huge, by the way, so I wouldn't use it often except for detailed 'scope shots.
The pages are 25cm tall ('cause that's the newspaper print roll sliced in half). "Official" animation pap...
