Nessie Takes a Dip (2nd of 2)

Finally! The punchline to the damn short. Funny thing about this short: When I first wrote it, it was just what is now the second page. But when I read it in my notebook prior to roughing it out on board, I thought, Sure, all you need to get the joke is the one page, but it might be nice to see a little setup...like, how did Nessie get into this mess? Or, more precisely, If she's all wet from swimming, can't we see a page of her swimming around all n...

"Catching Some Sun" Progresses

Injury update: I'll live.  Fortunately, the arm bounced back pretty quick; I was able to draw, ink, etc., after a couple of days. The leg was worse than I thought at first. But I can bend it now and don't have any pain while working. As long as the huge lingering bruise and saucer-sized lump don't plan on throwing any blood clots into the mix, I should be in the clear.

As for our lovely sun-worshipping lass and her loyal m...

Meg and Phil

Well this has not been my week (and by this week I mean last week, naturally). I spent most of the week racing to the bathroom every half hour--the less said about that the better--and over the weekend took a nasty spill down some steps in our garage. Actually, the spill wasn't so bad, it was the landing that sucked. Fortunately, the bottom concrete step was like a feather pillow under my thigh, and my right forearm was lucky enough to impact the Nerf-like edges ...

Tasteful Abbey Nude

Here's another from a series of pinups I recently did for a very generous patron. All of Abbey, depicting... well... all of Abbey.  Not much more to it, really.  But before I head off to ice my arm and research how many aspirin can be taken in a 24 hour period, I wanted to bring something up. A patron recently suggested I do something more for the $50 tier, like a sketch postcard or something. I'm probably going to do that,...

Nessie Takes a Dip (1st of 2)

Hey, all. Today we have the first page of a two-page Boneyard short. It's not ideal to split up a gag before the punchline, but somehow I think you'll find enough here to entertain you 'til next week.                                           ...

Catching Some Sun (work-in-progress)

This is definitely a first for me. I actually remembered to scan a work-in-progress in stages right from the beginning. I usually think to scan the original sketch, then forget to scan again 'til I'm two-thirds of the way through the piece.  And it just doesn't work as well to substitute text along the lines of, "...So, at first this part wasn't there, then I drew it...And see that part? You guessed it: it was originally blank...then I..." Well, you get it. ...

A New Year

Well, it's a new year (Happy New Year to everyone, by the way), and with it are coming some changes. Sort of.  I'd mentioned that I wanted to start introducing some gray tones to my comic pages here on Patreon, because I really don't think I achieve everything I want to with just black and white. This Boneyard short is a first step in that direction. I didn't run out of time to ink the cornstalks, in fact I still had to go over them twice, just not ...

Kaiju Cheesecake

One of the things I'm going to do this year is focus on a themed series of drawings and paintings that I'll hopefully get into a gallery, and maybe publish as a book. I'll be presenting here samples of the series I'm considering, and asking for your help in deciding which one to go with. (Eventually I'll get around to all of them, but I need to focus on one at a time if I'm ever going to actually get anything done.) This week I'm sharing the black-and-white...

Witchcraft Can Be Tricky

Here we a have a treat for the Deja Vu lovers out there. I don't know if this ever ran anywhere, but I don't think so. Maybe on Facebook or something, but it obviously was never painted and used as the cover it was designed to be. One thing I always liked about Deja is her incompetence, and I mean no insult by that. It's not her fault; she's trying to learn to wield tremendous power without even a manual, and her only instructor is a snarky little pain-in-the-ass...

Robin Surprises Ralph

So obviously this is what I meant when I said we'd be hitting our holiday strips a tad late. We'll still get there, it'll just be a little after the tyrannical calendar says we should. But hey, this might even be a good thing, for those who get a bit sad after a holiday has passed. For myself, I could swear that time itself has sped up. It feels like it should be maybe a week 'til Halloween at the latest, not coming up on the new year. I know my sense of time is ...

What I'd Like for Christmas

I'm spending the holidays working my sad, untoned little ass off trying to get a few comic pages ahead, to have a bit of a buffer again; some breathing room, so to speak.  But I wouldn't want you all to go too long without at least a little Boneyard, so here's another recent commission I did for a very nice patron. Hope you like!

Merry Christmas, Sort of...

I had wanted to do a nice Christmas pinup or splash page just for my patrons this year, but trying to build up a buffer of comic pages again is seriously time-consuming. So I found this, uh, Christmas commission pinup, and thought I'd share it. That Santa, huh? He works hard once a year, and apparently he plays hard, too. Do you suppose Mrs. Claus knows...?

     Anyway, MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!

Loading Too Slowly...?

Hey everyone. I recently heard from a patron that the images here are loading slowly for him--in fact, I also had someone leave altogether for this reason. Unfortunately, Patreon is not terribly helpful or responsive on matters like this, but I did contact them to ask: why pictures not fast? They finally got back to me, insisting that it's not anything on their end, so it must be down to people's individual devices. They suggested that anyone having problems cont...

You Want Detail...?

I love a good sight gag. But it's one thing to write the gag--it takes mere seconds; perhaps a minute or more if I'm smoking my pipe and enjoying the fine, polished teak of my private study. It's quite another, however, to draw the damn thing.  Oh, it seems soooo funny when scribbled absently in a drug-induced haze, but where is that haze when it comes time to pencil and ink thousands of fucking leaves? Nowhere to be found, that's ...

Backdoor Commission

When you do something often enough, things can kind of blur together. Given Abbey's obvious assets, the basic theme of this commission has been a popular one. Even so, I could swear I posted this piece already. But I couldn't even find a cleaned-up version (prior to cleaning it up for this posting) in my files. It's probably just one booty-banging pinup blurring with another, as I said. I'm just worried for Glump. I mean, I can't imagine Glump mentall...

Abbey Commission

Hey, all.  I pretty much lost this week to commissions and cleaning up images for future posting. And when you see the detail in the next Boneyard page, you'll understand why I couldn't just bang it out at the last minute. (Truth be told, I seem incapable of banging out any page.) I thought I could at least share with you one of the commissions from this week, a quiet moment with Abbey, showing off her assets. Nice to work in gray tones aga...

Deja Pinup

This is an old one, but I don't think it ran anywhere. (Jose...?) It was inspired by a short I wrote in which Deja attempts to do her laundry in a laundromat at 2am. In the short she doesn't strip down like this, unfortunately. I can ask readers to suspend their disbelief further in a pinup than an actual story, I think. Despite the nice ass, my favorite part is 'Wulf, going on an unpleasant ride in the dryer.

Nessie is Happy

Freudian slip time. When I was lettering this page (which I do by plain old printed-out text and almost literal cut-and-paste), I came within about a second of putting down the wrong dialogue. Well, one word was wrong. Consciously I knew that Abbey was supposed to be suggesting that the guys play skins, yet when I'd typed it in, I typed "...I think the ladies should play skins...?" I caught it just in time to correct it, but it's clear which ...

Is This a Pattern?

So once again we find Meg making out with a waitress, albeit a different one this time. For a character who once said she's not a lesbian, she sure does spend a lot of her time with her tongue in other women's mouths. But that's the wonder of commission requests, isn't it?

Tin God Commission

I did an adult short (which I believe ran in Sizzle) that was part of yet another larger story I'll likely never get to, called Tin God.  I won't bore you with backstory, but this one detail might be amusing. Around the time I was writing Tin God, I'd gotten a few negative comments about the design of Meg from Far West. Nothing overtly offensive, more like snide bemusement. "What's with that giant honker?" and "She might b...

Abbey's Been Around

Well, there's no way around it: life kicked my ass this week. Too much work and other nonsense, not enough time. I'm inking the next Boneyard page, but there was no way I was going to finish in time. So instead, you get to see what Abbey looked like when she was a can-can dancer. Hopefully it's not such a bad trade-off.

New Beauties and Beasts Sketch

On this #ThankYouPatrons Day (which goes all the way back to when the first strapped-for-cash artist landed on Plymouth Rock), I wanted to share a little something extra. This is the latest sketch from my Beauties and Beasts series. This one's called "Catching Some Sun".  I'll probably also do some with large-breasted women.

On the serious, though, I do want to thank all of you. Much of the artwo...

A Revisit to Oz

Some of you may be familiar with an adult short I did quite a ways back, depicting Dorothy having quite a different time in the land of Oz than in the books or the movie with Judy Garland. You might consider this commission an outtake or splash page from that short. I always liked this version of the Tin Man. Maybe I just envy his ability to swap out dicks at will.

An Inspirational Episode

Years ago, when I was a young(ish) pup and still attending ComiCon, a reader once asked me, “Robert, why are your adult stories so weird?” Needless to say, I took immediate umbrage, produced a gauntlet from my person, and with a sharp clout across the face challenged him to a duel. After he regained consciousness, and security released me, we mended our differences and sealed a bond with a brotherly embrace. I then shot him in the head...

Here's a Weird One

Sorry to anyone who thought this would be a full-on adult piece. I put it under the Naughty Bits banner just because of the ponytail in Heather's posterior (I'm sure there's a name for those things, but I don't know it). As weird as this piece is, I don't recall if the commissioner was specific in his/her request, or if they just said "Do something with these two characters". I kind of hope it was the former, as I don't know what the latter would say about me. Fu...

Color Sketches

Forgot to include these in the "official" posts. Terrible scans of my very crude color sketches--literal cut-and-paste jobs, necessary because of my nonexistent computer skills. If you compare to the final pieces, you can see some of the changes I made as I went along. The sketches don't look much like these scans in real life; I wish I'd scanned them sooner, because I really like the look of Izzy's coat here. It looks like really worn and ratty velvet. I might h...

Poor Bob

The original idea behind starting off with shorts rather than long story arcs was to allow me the freedom of doing a strip about this, a strip about that, whatever struck me as funny on any given day. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be wired like that. While going through my notes and rough scripts, I couldn't help arranging them in an approximate chronological order. Certain scenes, in particular, have to happen before a specific upcoming story arc, or not at all...

Finishing Up Izzy

And we come to our last art process installment on our pair of undead gentlemen. When last we left Izzy, his head and hands were painted, but everything else was still just primed.  Here we see that I've given him his first coats on his clothes. I mixed up enough of the basic color that I could save some in an old prescription bottle (with a wad of wet paper towel under the cap, but not touching the paint). That way, if I needed more later, I wou...
