tutorial on how to use g8f dforce clothing on the g9. it really depends on how the clothing you are using is made. geometry needs to be connected to each otherwise it wont work, and the whole thing will fall apart. but for simple things like small dresses, shirts and anything alike, this will work great
with this workflow you will still have all the original morphs available , also all preset texture sets will still work

expression and make up test
i think i did it correctly, the expressions all seem to work
make up is a lot harder to do with the g9 since there is a lot less surfaces set up. for the lips its really the easiest to just use a geoshell since they complete removed the lip surface, no idea what the though is behind that idea. but it is what it is. for the blush i used the overlay texture, and for the eye shadow i set up a LIE texture
the problem we going to have with the g9 is this. since there are no standard morphs for the g9, its going to be impossible to create correction morph for clothing.
previous generations had a lot of standard partial body morphs, like breast size, cleavage, and a couple of full body morphs like, body size, bodybuilder, fitness, voluptuous, and so on.
the way correction morph work is they only kick in when a specific morph is dialed in. so for example, lets keep it to breast size, if you dial up the breast size morph, the correction morph for the breast size is applied right on top of that. you can actually see that happening if you use the show hidden properties, in the parameters tab.
so as long as you use those morphs, we could set up correction morphs that are associated with said morph. but with the g9 there are just no standard morphs, so what will happen is, lets stick to the breast size morph, everyone will have a different breast size morph, and so its going to be impossible to set up correction morphs since everyone is using something different
what we can do is build in some movement morphs to fix small issues, but i dont see how this is going to work for the majority of clothing, except if dforce is going to be the standard
normal maps still missing
and not to happy with the nipps yet
this works too, its only the head diffuse map applied to the figure on the preview above, so she is a bit shiny and all that, but that will be fixed once i applied all appropriate maps
the way i transferred the map was using projection mapping inside 3ds max. if you using blender, maya or c4d you can do this inside these programs too. i think you can even do it in substance painter, but that will have to wait till i have my pc back.
now we just need more hours in a day, so i dont have to goto sleep. dammit!!!! tomorrow ill complete all the maps and see how that will look
all in all, im starting to like the g9!!!
left figure is the saphy g8f character, right figure is the new saphy g9 character
transferring morphs is very doable!!!
here is how: Converting Genesis 8 Character Shapes to Genesis 9
here i did a couple of extra steps by using 3ds max and get a bit cleaner results, but the basic idea is the same
next trying to transfer maps from g8 to g9. i think i know how to do it, just have to try it out
these are the base and the 3 body morphs that come with the essentials packs. the dress morphs really nice with each body morph

this is the open back evening dress (g8f) (md) now fitted and rigged for the g9. and to my big surprise, it works really nice. just a simple utility transfer and works straight out of the box
i have no idea if this will hold up when there are more morphs available for the g9. but for now, it works great on the Base Feminine Body, Base Masculine Body and Victoria 9 Body
so, she is finally here. and what we got is kinda nice, i guess. vic9 looks amazing, but the morphs that come with the 2 essentials packs are pretty bare bones. there is a lot of morphs in them, but nothing useful. simple things like adjustable breasts, adjustable hips, adjustable waist, complete body morphs, arent in there. there are a lot of facial expression morphs though, you can move pretty much everything on her face to get the perfect expression. going to take some practice to figure out what does what

just testing how far i can push things on the gtx1650
if you hide everything that is not in view of the camera you can push things a lot further. bit of an overkill, but now i have 8 geoshells applied to the g8. this does raise the render time significantly. render time: 23 min

stocking and open shirt, shirt is draped inside daz. background is added in environment tab, 2k hdri map with one emission light source. complete figure on subdiv 2

dress is from marvelous designer and then imported into 3ds max, added some depth to it, and then imported in daz.

the gtx1650 has 4 gb of ram. had 3 geoshells and 3 objects with dforce applied to the g8 in this relatively simple scene. but iray would not render it. reduced the scene a bit, and then it rendered fine. gotta be a bit more careful with setting up scenes now

cant really figure out if the denoiser bug is on my system only or not, but for now, just have to restart daz every time for my final render, and it will render the image out with the denoiser. bit of an annoyance but it will work for now

got everything installed on the new 1650 system now. its a lot slower then my 3070 workstation, but that was expected. this render took about 7 min to finish, so its not to bad
daz 4.21 does have a weird bug where the denoiser only works the first time when rendering, and every after that it just wont use the denoiser anymore, for some weird reason. not sure if thats related to my setup, or just a bug in daz itself
because of that bug, these renders are a bit grainy
