I’ve seen a lot of anti AI art posts in the last day, as well as coming under some flack from random, irrelevant people on Instagram & twitter, but it all reminds me of people’s criticism of Rap, sampling & being a DJ in the early 80s!

This marks a week using Midjourney AI & I have seen no one producing anything remotely similar to what I am doing! To me, I am finding works of my new favorite painter, who is having spiritual revelations on the hour, which is what I want from art. Revelations.

Part of the mythology of Dungeon Degenerates is the idea that the previous civilization had advanced technology that fused science & magic & could just grow buildings & things. (As depicted on the cover of Mean Streets) Because of this, all the ancient stuff has an organic look to it, my art using Midjourney emulates this & had expanded on the notion! Explore with me!

I’m not a Christian, I’m not anti-Christian & I have very little religious damage, but I love Christmas. I have a very Pagan idea of what the holiday is, which easily works into the secular version of the holiday. I am figuring out a way to share my vision of Christmas with everyone because I feel that it’s important & I want to do a Christmas book eventually!

I managed to use Midjourney as a hobby for about half a day before new projects came to mind, it was probably less time than that! Anyhow, That's fine by me, what I think I'm going to do is make a Weird Fantasy zine called Sheol using these new images & providing context for them, because I feel like I am exploring this world too!

More AI Art, I am having so much fun with this! I understand the hesitation people feel about this & with AI in general, but we crossed that bridge a long time ago, & fun applications like this are more of a byproduct than a central piece of tech. Imagine this in 3D & hooked up to a 3D printer or generating a VR world to explore! More to come!

So I decided to finally use Midjourney AI this morning & it was really fun! Some of my favorite accounts on Instagram are devoted to weird AI art. It made me really glad I didn’t decide to pursue doing some kind of realistic, painterly art. I’m really pleased with the results & this is just learning to use the program & spending about an hour on it!

I drew this calendar back in 2006 for my friend Clint Marsh at Wonderella, he does Fiddler's Green Zine now. Anyhow I recolored it & am going to offer it up as this month's free download! I did this piece for the first art show I had in Eugene! probably 2004 or so, lots of good ideas here, I wonder if my sketch book from this period reflects this or not!?!? It was a good show, I was using sharpie, watercolor, spray paint & China markers.

A lot of people have issues with the holidays, we’ve worked hard to define things for ourselves & own them. So, a holiday based on being thankful, the bounty of the year & the like is great! Just because we come from a generation of wet blankets & beaten dogs doesn’t mean we have to conform! I came up with this guy right before I had the stroke! The idea is that he’s an anthropomorphic matzo ball, somewhere between the Gingerbread Man & Momotaro that goes into the underworld for some reason. Anyhow, I’m stoked to work with illustrators to work in my old style & execute a bunch of these projects, because I’ve got a list that’s almost never ending & keeps getting longer!

The Devil is in the details. All the eggs in my art are a double reference to Dali & to the Headhunter video for Front 242, which featured eggs accidentally, the director misunderstood & ran with the eggs concept! I’m sure the story is better, but I don’t need it to be!

Here is the picture I used for my art show “Decadence” down in Eugene in 2010. The title of the show was taken from the Duran Duran best of album that came out in 1990. The show was a big success & the Whiteaker neighborhood we lived in was getting known as an art neighborhood which spawned the BANG! paper & eventually PORK.

Here’s my original drawing/painting of Bilezogbug, demon lord of Goblins! The idea is that the Goblins deliver dead bodies down to Bilezogbug & she lays Goblin eggs that eventually hatch as Grublins or Goblin Maggots, the majority of which take regular Goblin form, but also of Goblin Dogs, Gobflys, whatever!

The day after Halloween is weird unless you’re like me & you’ve decided that holidays have a month long run up & month long run down that flavors the season. So, because of this we have a two month long period of the death harvest season which is crowned by Halloween but runs into Thanksgiving. This way, if you’re overly taxed by the mania of the one day, you can keep it going!

I’ve been watching late 80s/early 90s backpacker Hip Hop videos on YouTube. De La Soul, Pharcyde, Tribe Called Quest, Boogie Down Productions, Divine Styler, KRS-One etc. It got me thinking about the concept of old school & how that has largely left the parlance. Back in the 90s I was already doing things old school which had way more room in it for eccentricty than today. So, I guess what I’m saying is that we still kick it old school & I’m getting more eccentric as I age!
