Jim-Bob and Becky -- Flash Fiction

Hope you enjoy the story you helped create!

Flash Fiction Friday 30/ May/ 2025

Jim-Bob wasn't having the greatest of days. First his ex, Becky, was kidnapped by the very shadow assassins who'd killed his parents. Then his airship, the Darlene, got shot down while he was trying to rescue her. Now he was standing amid the wreckage, sporting a goose egg on his forehead that made thinking harder than it ought to be.

"Head hurts more than that long weekend I had down south with...

Four Horsemen Book 5 - Old Histories: Chapter 14

Braden, the former foremaster of the Mardun traders, gripped onto the map table secured to the Righteous' deck. The ship rolling with the waves as the room was filled with shouting.

Well they know how to not fall over when the ship shifts at sea now. Though there were quite a few that were looking a bit green with the day's heat creeping up and the constant waves.

General Dalaric's meaty fist crashed against the war table, sending map markers scattering across it...

Four Horsemen Book 5 - Old Histories: Chapter 13

The shores of the inland lake buzzed with restrained activity. Petor watched the traders organizing carts and people with practiced efficiency, their movements betraying the underlying tension. The morning sun cast long shadows across the water's surface, its light catching on the ripples stirred by the gentle breeze.

Valter crouched beside the enchanted plate, his fingers tracing the intricate runes etched into its metallic surface. The markings pulsed with a soft blue glow, responding...

Four Horsemen Book 5 - Old Histories: Chapter 12

Petor descended the stone stairs, boots crunching on shattered vault door fragments. The air grew heavier with each step, thick with the acrid scent of old air and melted stone.

The vault stretched out before them, row upon row of stone chests filling the massive chamber. Golden letters adorned each chest, names of the fallen glowing with stored power. But down the central aisle, broken chests lined the path, their contents violated. Wisps of ethereal mist rose from the shattered remain...

Four Horsemen Book 5 - Old Histories: Chapter 11

Petor appeared near the juggernaut that Valter was fighting, his spear glowed with an emerald aura as roots and vines that had dropped to the floor earlier wrapped around their legs. The holy warrior staggered, their momentum suddenly checked by the grasping plants.

Not wasting the opening, Petor thrust his spear into a gap in the juggernaut's side armor. The warrior let out a pained grunt, their stance faltering. That moment of weakness was all Valter needed. The Deathless surged forwa...

Petor followed his companions into the temple's heart, the hammering growing louder with each step. Four massive juggernauts stood guard while their leader and two others struck the vault's door. Holy energy pulsed with each impact, spreading spider-web cracks through the glowing seals.

The leader's hammer radiated unholy power that made Petor's teeth ache. Each blow sent reverberations through the temple floor, and he could feel the protections weakening.

His gaze swept over his ...

Petor eased his pace as he crossed the temple's threshold. His boots crunched on broken glass and splintered wood. Bodies sprawled across the floor—champions, and undead defenders, their bodies intermixed with one another amongst the ruined temple.

Scorch marks, weapon attacks and bullet holes scarred the once-pristine walls. Shafts of dawn light pierced through ragged holes in the ceiling, cutting through the dusty air like divine spears. The light caught motes of stone dust and ash,...

Four Horsemen Book 5 - Old Histories: Chapter 8

The battlefield churned like a cauldron, smoke coiling through the air as if the gods themselves had unleashed their fury. Every breath burned Petor’s lungs, and he fought the instinct to cough.

He tried to get enough moisture to spit, finding his mouth dry instead.

He used root road, appearing near the trenches that snaked through the temple's grounds.

His boots squelched in blood-soaked mud, making each step a struggle. The cacophony of war roared around him—shouts, cr...

Petor watched through the hole in the roof as Mya's cannon shot struck the barrier around the buildings that the champions were based out of.

The barrier flared with the impact.

Petor commanded the stormvines and ever burning bramble to contract violently and stopped holding back their lighting and heat.

Lightning arced through the stormvines and the wood in contact with the everburning bramble started to smolder and ignite.

Petor threw the hellfire thistle pod high ov...

Petor followed Mya through the dense jungle, his boots finding purchase on the worn paths between thick vegetation. The canopy thinned as they emerged into the town proper, buildings of weathered stone and wood rising around them. We're in the town around the lake.

The volcano loomed ahead, its dormant peak wreathed in wisps of cloud.

"Temple's up there." Mya pointed at the volcano. "It lies along the main road that lead s from the harbor up to the lake and fields up here...

Four Horsemen Book 5 - Old Histories: Chapter 5

Petor crouched at the edge of the torn jungle, watching chaos unfold at the main ritual site. The once-pristine stone complex built into the hillside now bore deep scars from the battle.

The jungle that had hidden it had been decimated.

Smoke rose from multiple defensive positions where the Mardun fought to hold their ground, muzzle flashes lighting up the openings carved into the weathered stone.

He couldn't tell how many defenders there were, but there had to be between a ...

Blurbs--An author's nightmare

So its come to that point which all Authors hate--blurbs. It never feels like you can get across what the story means, who the characters are and the things that you the readers enjoy. Its the messiest and usually the most crucial bit of writing that we do. Case and point I had a mate working on a blurb for about 4 hours yesterday losing his absolute mind.

SO! I thought why the hell do that, why don't I ask all you fine people. What do you think of these two blurbs? Which one do you lik...

Four Horsemen Book 5 - Old Histories: Chapter 4

The command center's stone walls amplified every echo of boots on stone as runners brought updates to Lianne. She stood over the illuminated tactical table, signalers moved markers as reports filtered in from across Osola.

"Third battery reports two pirate vessels sunk, Lady Commander. But they're seeing more lights on the horizon." The young messenger's voice cracked with tension.

Lianne's fingers traced the harbor's defensive arc. "How many batteries are manned?"

"Five of ...

Petor moved with the jungle, not having to look at his feet as he knew the terrain, flitting forward, his spear back out and his sling loaded and on his hip, his cloak billowed behind him fluttering without a noise.

Sounds of distant fighting continued to ring out.

Moonlight filtered through the canopy, casting strange shadows across Valter's dimantium armor. The thermal enchantments on his blade created subtle distortions in the air around him, like heat waves rising from sun-bak...

Petor disembarked from the Mesurial, his dimantium armor gleaming in the sunlight. He adjusted the straps, ensuring a snug fit, and checked his weapons. The Spear of the Mirage Mariner felt perfectly balanced in his hand, its power thrumming through his veins. His sling and seed-shots were secured at his side, ready for the chaos he would unleash upon their foes.

Valter and Desari joined him on the dock, their own gear and weapons being meticulously inspected. Valter's Sword of the Ther...

Mesurial glided through the shimmering portal, emerging into the warm waters around Lady Delmara's island within the Coral Bastion. Cheers erupted from the gathered boats and people on the dock. Several children waved enthusiastically from smaller vessels that bobbed in the crystalline waters.

Petor turned back toward where they'd come from, watching the watery portal shrink into nothingness. The moment it winked out, reality fractured beside them. A doorway of black marble mat...

Four Horsemen Book 5 - Old Histories: Prologue

Vessali walked out of the city, his silvered armor covered in blood and gore. The coppery tang an afterthought.

Buildings burned in his wake, one collapsing in a furry of embers. There was no alarm, no yelling, none left alive to worry anymore. An army stood impotently at the gates to the city, grand things near four stories tall and cracked through the middle. Each hinge nearly the size of a man.

Soldiers parted for him, their hands on their weapons, their faces tense. He didn’...
