June MOTM: What lurks in the deep woods - concept sketch + design commentary // sfw

june's monster of the month design was based on the theme 'what lurks in the deep woods' which was suggested by coldau! 

i had three main sources of inspiration for this design (and for the painting and the Vibe in general): the art of john bauer, the photography book 'wilder mann' by charles freger, and the peaceful northern forests i grew up in.

ngl, since the moment i typed in 'heavenly naga' as an option in the poll, i just kept thinking of what kubi and i refer to as the 'heaven scarf.' i've only done some very minimal research, but i've found out that it's called tenne in japanese, and i've seen it on chinese goddesses, japanese gods, and buddhist entities like the tennin and nio.
