Office Hours Excerpt #2: Strategies on Jumpstarting Voice and Releasing Tension at Higher Pitches with Lily

This is an excerpt from helping a patron during our recent office hours event. In this clip, Lily describes challenges around starting directly in her desired voice and we talk solutions. Then, we explore her higher pitches as she reports they sound less natural and more "off" -- we find the reason and talk about solutions!

Everyone from the recent office hours gave me consent to share these recordings so be on the lookout for more throughout this month!

Office Hours Excerpt #1 - Gwyn Finds Big Improvement in Sound Production!

This is an excerpt from helping a patron during our recent office hours event. In this clip, Gwyn demonstrates the progress she has made thus far and we work together to take it further. This clip is a great example of how to approach driving improvement in sound production by relaxing and staying fluid while searching for higher and lighter foundations.

How to Match Pitch. <3

Hi all! I forgot to post this to Patreon when I released it!

Do you think you are tone deaf? You probably aren't. Less than 4% of the population has true tone deafness. Even if you are one of the rare individuals with congenital amusia it can still be improved (see link below). For most pitch strugglers out there, you simply haven't learned how to match pitch or what it means to match pitch. This video describes a long standing, tried and true method for learning pitch awaren...

Zhea Erose - Disfiguration [just intonated string work]

Hi everyone. I've been sick for nearly 2 weeks and have completely lost my voice during this period. I've been quite frustrated because I can't film videos, can't do audio feedback, can't teach lessons, and can't record vocal music.

This piece is kind of the embodiment of frustration, anxiety, and concern. It feels a bit like the unanswered question.

Creating a Voice in 60 Seconds

This video is a demonstration of using voice synthesis tools to model a voice from scratch. I build up a masculine voice then I feminize it. This video is much different than usual. I just felt like making it and it was fun. As always, infinite thanks for being here.

Patron Exclusive: Vocal Weight Resource

Hi everyone! Early this year, Clover and I put a significant time into developing a fairly comprehensive book resource. It has grown quite large and we are still actively developing this but have decided to develop it in a revolutionarily different way than we first anticipated. To complete that, it will take more time than estimated back in March.

In lieu of that, I wanted to share this resource because it's sitting around in a usable state and I think it will be super useful for...

Reacting to Billie Eilish! Tips on how to sound like her in NDA

I hope you all enjoy this! I wanted to try some new content stuff. It was really fun. <3

I'll be mixing in more diverse content in between my educational releases in order to keep a steady stream of new stuff happening. The highest quality education videos typically take ~1.5 months from start to finish so instead of just having a bunch of dead time while I make those, I'll do more things like this, live streams, and other short educational videos.

Considerations For Students Who Don't Practice

I shared several ideas that are important to me and realized it would be a good theory blog post to expand on here. So here are a few key considerations I have when interacting with a "student who didn't practice":

Strategies to deal with students who didn't practice:

• It's essential to lay the ground work for good practice habits f...

Strategies for Separating Resonance from Pitch

Candor on the Discord server asks, "Is there an exercise to help separate pitch and resonance control". So I decided to make a video showing 3 approaches to help someone separate pitch from resonance.

1. Harmonic Ladders

2. Visually observing pitch while moving resonance

3. Using an external pitch source to remove pitch from the equation to train the ears to hear what resonance changing on a constant pitch sounds like.

I have attached the external pitch file to t...

27-note MEGA CHORD - but it's Microtonal

I spend a lot of time making massive chords in JI. Someone named Rahul Peter recently posted a large 27-note, 12 pitch class chord from a Jacob Collier T-shirt and asked how it could be tuned microtonal. I thought this was kinda fun so I went ahead and made a video on it. Everyone responded positively to the small clip I made in the other thread so I hope y'all enjoy this.

Workshop Series: The Joy of Voice

Hi everyone! Recently, we gathered in the server and had a wonderful workshop. This workshop was focused on exploration, experimentation, and thinking of voice beyond "individual parameters".  10 participants helped lead the way between tons of experimentation, silly noises, vocal gender exploration, and much more.

While we often discuss voice as a series of components such as resonance, weight, pitch, etc, these are simplifications that make it easier for beginners to aurally reco...
