Random We Were Here Bullshittery - Update #2

Good evening dear Patrons. Hope you're having a lovely week as November comes to a close.

All is going well over here. It's the midpoint of the second week of effort on Random We Were Here Bullshittery and everything is going as expected.

With last week primarily a cutting week, this week I've started the text/effects, etc. And so far I've managed to get about 4 minutes finished. The final run-time isn't clear yet though. Probably 15-20 minutes in ...

Random We Were Here Bullshittery - Update #1

Just wrapping up the editing for the week.

Since Tuesday afternoon I've been in the cutting stage for Random We Were Here Bullshittery. Which is a coop puzzle game made by Dutch students, that Cyanide and I played earlier this year.

It reminds me quite a bit of Portal 2 or Crystal Maze, where one partner has to guide the other through a series of puzzles using only ...

Kerbal Video - Didn't pan out

Ahh alas. I'm afraid that after a day and a half of cutting, I regret to report that there's just not enough footage to make a bullshittery video for Kerbal Space Program. At least, using the coop stream footage that Cyanide and I recorded at the start of the year.

I'm afraid that, while there are funny moments, they mostly involve the joke "Cyanide's rocket explodes" repeated several times.

And things happen, the sharded nature of the multiplayer experien...

Dungeons & Dragons Bullshittery Fixes - Update #3

It's the end of the working week. I've been pretty sick on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. But since I did lots of work last Saturday and Sunday, I'd say it's kind of evened-out. It's been roughly a full working week. I'm steadily starting to feel better now thankfully.

Here's the update:

In one week, I've been able to animate about 5 minutes out of 25 minutes for the Dungeons & Dragons Bullshittery. While that doesn't sound like a lot, it's actually not all th...

Dungeons & Dragons Bullshittery Fixes - Update #2

Animation work continues, but I had to share this.

I'm setting up a small library of reuseable animation actions for the puppets. Things like blinking, breathing, fidgeting, etc. Just to make the puppets seem more alive.

And something just went hideously wrong with one of them. I guess the importer couldn't find the right layers.

The fuck is that? - https://i.imgur.com/NDVDmgq.png

Dungeons & Dragons Bullshittery Fixes - Update #1

Thanks for taking part in that poll. I didn't expect the Gang Beasts one to be so far up, good to know! So Rocket League and Gang Beasts are quite sought after, alongside Arma. Also so was Kerbal oddly enough. I'll certainly keep that in mind going forward.

Right now though I probably need to get my arse in gear and put some work into t...

Pre-production week finished

Righto. I've just spent 5 days doing a bunch of minor pre-production tasks before the next video. Here's what I managed:

  • Reorganized recorded footage - I was able to go through and successfully catalogue almost a years worth of streams that have been cluttering up the hard drive. Freeing up almost 1.5tb of drive space for fresh footage. And I've also put everything in the right game folders, where it needs to be (will go into more details below).

This week = lots of little pre-production things

Thank you all for the kind comments about the last bullshittery. Glad you liked it :)

This week I won't be starting the next big Youtube project immediately. As it's high-time I sort out a number of smaller tasks that have been building up. It's probably best to make some time now, before I get stuck into the next thing.

I need to try and do the following. In no particular order:

  • Reorganize recorded footage - I have a lot of game footage saved in incorrect pl...

EARLY ACCESS - Random PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Bullshittery (part 2)

Whew. All done. Blimey that was a particularly grueling edit. Apologies for the one week delay. But the bullshittery is finally done, and available to view here as early-access with my sincere thanks.

A quick recap of the timeline:

  • Week 1 - This first week saw the editing of all the scenes in a complete sequence over the first three days. This process wasn'...

Random Battlegrounds Bullshittery - Update #4

My apologies folks. Despite my best efforts last week (and with some extra hours on the weekend) I wasn't able to get the episode ready by the weekend as promised. I'm afraid it's going to take a bit more time.

There are a few cuts left to do in that complicated 45 second montage I mentioned, including some green-screening with a couple of friends. It's looking good, but it's not quite 100% yet. And there are some clips that need to polish properly and refine keyframes that I felt had room for...

Random Battlegrounds Bullshittery - Update #3

It's the 4th and final week of work on this. And things are coming together nicely. Here's a full image of the timeline for those curious.

I also spent a few hours on the weekend just going through and fixing mistakes. So the quality assurance for most of the episode is more-or-less complete. Now it's just that last 45 second scene to complete. Should be fun! Lots of After Effects tinkering. Hoping to have it ready by the ...

Random Battlegrounds Bullshittery - Update #2

I have a new toy!

I've picked up a cheap, cotton green-screen and associated frame from Amazon, along with a moderately good webcam.

The reason being, I'm doing some experiments in the latest bullshittery with chroma-keying. Mainly because it's always a good idea to learn new things. But also because most of my videos are an exercise in making visual effects look like part of the game itself - text app...

Random Battlegrounds Bullshittery - Update #1

Good evening folks. So on the last post most of you sounded happy with the idea of another Random PUBG Bullshittery. Therefore that's what I've been chipping away on for the past 9 days or so.

The first 3 days were standard cutting parts - trying to create a video that makes sense from start to finish using the clips available from the streams. With the next six days being on the text and animations ...

DayZ Critique part 8 stuck & next project

Good afternoon folks. Happy Monday!

So the three weeks on the video-essay side project are over. I was working on parts 8 and 9 of the DayZ critique thing. And I'm afraid that while part 9 is available in draft form I'm still a little stuck with part 8. I'm having to wa...

DayZ Critique - Part 9 draft finished (still working on part 8)

I'm nearly done with these two chapters. But it appears that I was able to finish part 9 before part 8. And part 9 is available here in early-access for you.  As always, thank you very much for your patronage during my pet-project.

So this is the chapter wedged between part 8/10 - Tone and Atmosphere. And part 10/10 - Development. And it talks about the role that Vehicles have in a survi...

DayZ Critique - Working on part 9/10 - Update #2

Progress on the next couple of draft video-essay chapters has been pretty good! Part 8/10 - Tone and Atmosphere, is practically complete and is going through another test-render now. I need one last piece of audio, but once I've got that I'll polish it as best as I can and then release it to you all.

And work on part 9/10 started yesterday. Part 9 talks about the role that vehicles had in DayZ, ...

DayZ Critique - Working on part 8/10 - Update #1

GAH! Sorry, I was meant to do this update on Monday. But I've just had this overdose of cannot be arsed each time I was supposed to. I need to pay somebody to stand behind me with a motivational bat. Preferably somebody scary-looking with tattoos.

But this week after two bullshitteries I've decided to take a detour and continue work on the DayZ critique thing I've been chipping away at steadily for the last year.

For those not familiar, I was hoping to div...

September - Training days and next project?

So with the Random Golf It bullshittery finished on Wednesday I decided to use Thursday and Friday for training, which I've been long overdue on to be honest.

The relative ease of the Golf It tracking (compared to Arma and PUBG at least) meant I was able to experiment more with the XYZ rotation keyframing, as you may have noticed. Along with particle generating tools. I...

EARLY ACCESS - Random Golf It Bullshittery

Whew. Blimey. All done!

Random Golf it Bullshittery is ready and can be viewed right here

So while the original preview footage was about 4 minutes and 30 seconds, this brings it up to 12 minutes and 8 seconds. And the whole thing consists of three separate live-streams with the guys about 5 weeks ago.

This was one of the easier videos to edit thankfully. The clear circular golf balls in distinct colou...

Random Golf It Bullshittery - Update #3

Hey there folks. So I've put together a bit of preview footage for those who might be interested. It's the first four and a half minutes of the bullshittery, out of about 13 minutes.

Entirely up to you as to whether you'd like to watch this now or save it for when the video is complete.

The next two thirds are games involving Cyanide and Tobiwan. So the pace quickens somewhat. I'll keep you updated :)

Random Golf It Bullshittery - Update #2

Sorry, I was supposed to do this update on the weekend, but I got staggeringly lazy. I drank beer, played Rimworld, and invented a new game - seeing how many smelly socks I can stack on Lulu's sleeping face before she notices. The answer is one...one smelly sock. Which I think she's confiscated.

So it's the start of the third week on the Random G...

Random Golf It Bullshittery - Update #1

Happy Monday folks. Yet another editing update.

So on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday last week I was able to take the three Golf It streams and cut them into a rough-cut 15 minute video. Though I'm fairly confident I can trim that down to about 13 minutes as I remove some unnecessary bits.

RE: Opinions on next project?

Thanks for taking part in the poll and providing your feedback folks. The number of messages back (Twitch messages especially) was something of a flood. Apologies for not responding to them all. Rest assured I did read everything from everybody.

I'm pleased that the poll results are fairly balanced. It tells me that there's not a single demographic hungry for one specific thing. People seem to want a bit of everyth...

August - Opinions on next project?

So now that the Random Arma Bullshittery (part 8) is finished, I was pondering what to do with the next project. Would like to know your thoughts.

At the moment a lot of people on Youtube seem convinced that my public release schedule is way too slow. So I think the best idea would be to do one other bullshittery episode at least. And then jump back onto the DayZ video essays afterwards for parts 8/10 and 9/10 for you guys only. As that project really needs to advance.

EARLY ACCESS - Random Arma Bullshittery (part 8)

Random Arma Bullshittery part 8 is finished. And available here for you as early access.

Whew. That was a tricky one. Apologies for the jittery/blurriness of some scenes. The footage I had to work with was absolutely terrible :S

Arma has never been known for its stability. But add multiplayer games with 40 people, bots with the same PC recording on Shadowplay AND streaming simultaneously. The frame-rate comp...

Random Arma Bullshittery (part 8) - Update #4

Guh! This one is proving to be frustrating I'm afraid. An update on the latest video:

It's the 4th week of work on Random Arma Bullshittery (part 8). And on Sunday evening I was able to complete the video in a broad sense. With Monday onwards being for polish/fine tuning/general quality assurance, etc.

This usually takes me a couple of days. Unfortunately so far, this has taken me four. With a fifth and final day needed tomorrow.

The main problem is the frame...

Random Arma Bullshittery (part 8) - Update #3

Hey there folks. It's the start of the third week of work on this Arma bullshittery and things are progressing as expected. There's about 7 minutes ish 'mostly' edited, with the remaining 3 minutes to go.

When I say mostly, one of the things that I'm struggling with is focusing on polishing a scene to completion before moving on with the next one. This is mostly to do with the nature of nested sequences (storing sequences in their own timelines, rather than one huge t...

Twitch password - $3 or more

The new password for tier 1 is "ice".

For those not sure what this is, during some livestreams on Twitch I like to personalise things by naming Kerbals, Warhammer generals, XCOM soldiers, etc after my backers. Just a bit of fun.

It's easy to identify Twitch subs, as they have a little icon. But Patrons need to whisper me a password to make themselves known. Thanks again for supporting me.
