Coming soon: Viborg Animation Festival!!

Dear Patreons,

This week’s post I’ve decided should revolve around the annual Viborg Animation Festival being held from September 25th – October 1st. This year’s theme is Japanese animation as Japan and Denmark are celebrating a 150 years anniversary of diplomatic relations, and as a big anime-nerd that has given me the opportunity to assist the festival in certain aspects. Here are some of the highlights!

RETROS Animation Tests

Dear Patreons,

Attached are some animation tests I made for RETROS, some early, some more recent. During my stay in Korea I was presented with some more old-school Disney technique that I got very inspired by. My own tests aren't nearly up to the standard, but I do feel that I improved my own animation sensibilities through making them. Some of these animations test out timing, others approached like straight-aheading. It's going to be interesting to see how I can implement the things I...

RETROS test animatics

Dear Patreons,

I hope you're all doing well. Today I'd like to share with you a couple of test animatics for RETROS that I made during my stay in Korea. They were made still in the very early stages of development, but I found that working on these helped in getting a feel for the atmosphere I'd like in certain scenes.. I also really wanted to start experimenting with implementing retro machine sounds into the sound design.

I hope you enjoy, and till next time!

RETROS Character designs

Dear Patreons,

Continuing the weekly posts I'd like to spend this Sunday's update, sharing some early character designs from my RETROS project. The project is still in early development and things are bound to change plenty as the pre-production continues. As such, this material is the sort that will often get buried as time progresses - however it may bring an interesting insight into where the animation started and where it went from there.

 Long-time followers will know th...

RETROS in 10 minutes

In a world of electronic fantasy, a young humanoid console named Pong travels through a landscape of progressively more advanced technology. Her goal? To reach the city in the horizon, where she’s convinced she’ll find the parts needed to get her caretaker, Uno the old Univac computer fixed right up. As her journey reaches its climax however, Pong must come to terms with the fact that there are some things that are out of her control.

I'm back.

Dear, dear Patreons,

It’s been quiet from me- I’m sorry. I really am. To be honest I had recorded this whole 20-minute video explaining myself; however as was editing it it just didn’t seem quite right.

I know that it’s sometimes so much easier to get by in written form, and that there are times when you’ve just got to look people in the eyes… but I think that I was overcomplicating things and taking too much time from what you’re actually su...

So I’m in Korea now

Yup, that seems to be the gist of it.

Dear Patreons,

I hope you are all well. As expected a fore-warned gap of time has passed from my last post, caused by my travels to the land of Korea. It’s not that I haven’t had time to write a new post, though times have of course been busy. It’s more that I’ve found myself so full on adventure that I haven’t been able to find or prioritize the required mental energy to write a new post of update.

So, howâ€...

To Korea!! (Temporary changes to the Patreon Page)

Dear Patreons,

At this point I have attempted to write this post 4 times, without finding myself able to put it quite right. 5th time’s got to be the charm though, right?

These are very exciting times, as something I started to set in motion years ago has finally come together; an exchange program for my time at The Animation Workshop.

To phrase it shortly… I’m off to Korea!

For the next two months I’ll be studying visual storytelling at the ChungKang Col...

We're back at it!

Dear Patreons,

With a fidgety year behind us, and a bit of rest to have been had, we're back at it! After some very enjoyable holidays with my family I made my way back to Viborg very much inspired and itching to get back to animating. And for the past week's time that's just what I've been doing!

I've been making some adjustments to the animatic, and still have to rewrite one particular scene slightly with some extra takes from the voice actors required. But luckily there's plent...

To a New Year!

Dear Patreons,

A short update as we reach the end of the year. After hours upon hours of exporting and uploading I finally succeeded in posting the full compilation of most of my productions from 2009-2016. It's been quite the journey towards becoming an animator, and now I look forward to some new years targeted toward becoming more professional at my craft in both animation and directing.

A couple of other recent releases to share:

Dust settles, Gears turning

Dear Patreons,

I hope you all are well and off to some happy holidays.

Currently I myself am sitting in a bus, on my way to Copenhagen to celebrate Christmas with my family. It’s been a wild ride these past months, but the dust seems to finally have settled.

The other day I finished my last freelance assignment of the year, so I’m now free to turn my sight to other things.

Yesterday I released a little documentary segment of myself talking about my beginnings with ...

Back on Track

Dear Patreon,

once again I'm sad that I haven't been able to write more updates as of late. It's not that nothing has been happening - quite the opposite!

When I left off last there had been a lot of trouble and delay causing me worries, and unfortunately they didn't come to an end at the time of writing. Slowly but surely however I've been working on turning each and every one of those bad things into something good, and I'm pretty proud to have succeeded in that.

Bumps on the road, keep on trucking.

Dear Patreons
I feel bad for not having given off sound for a while. These past weeks have been some really crazy ones, with a lot of bad luck included. I feel like a summation would not justify it, but to put it briefly it has included but not been limited to literal burning bridges; one of my canaries hurting its leg so badly that it'd have to be put down if it didn't get better; my computer acting out and coming back more broken after the repair; losing my TVPaint dongle and ha...

Progress and Upcoming Auditions

Dear Patreons,

Hope you're all well! I've had a wonderful week with lots of birthday happiness and greetings. There were even some of you that sent in a drawing or two for the occasion and that really warmed my heart!

In the land of Tales of Zale things are chugging along as well. I got that NAS drive that I wrote about in my previous post and have been able to bring the production over to that, which has saved me a lot of time and worry. One of the computer bugs that I've bee...

The Season of Story Boards

Dear Patreons,

It seems that the season of story boards has commenced! While I'm currently working on the first story board drafts of Tales of Zale episode 3 I've prepared some behind the scenes material from the previous episodes to go up on my YouTube channel. We start a bit backwards, with the very last scene of Tales of Zale Episode 2 - Hope you enjoy!

Updates and Patreon Announcement Animatic!

Dear Patreons,

I hope you're all doing well! It's the season of new beginnings; the new school year has started, projects are on the rise and beautiful Autumn is right around the corner!

Admittedly I have been off to a bumpy start, with a bad cold latching onto me at the very first day of school, resulting in me being down with a bad fever for a good bunch of days. And when I was finally able to pick up a pen again there's been computer trouble, basically stemming from my hard dri...

Patreon launch - Thank you for your support!

Hello and greetings to early adaptors. I don't want to repeat myself too much, as "thank you" can easily become a cheap word, but I hope you know how honered I am for having your support.

I've long been contemplating whether or not I should make a Patreon for many different reasons, but with the launch of my upcoming project, now seemed like the best time it'd ever be. I hope you'll bear with me for the first couple of posts as I learn the proper ins and outs of this service.
