Chapter 102

Steelix was one of the most dangerous species of Pokémon my team ever encountered. Not only were they aggressive and territorial, but they actively sought out battles just to test themselves. Most of the wild Steelix here were veterans of hundreds of tough fights for survival, and the wild Onix all strived to be like them. I would have preferred my team fight a dozen Onix than a pair of Steelix.

There was a certain strength that came from size. Not only did a Steelix carry much more fo...

Make sure you haven't skipped over Chapter 102, which was posted alongside this one!

====================================================

We needed the team members most suited for this situation, and as much as I wanted to take Mawile and Whimsicott, Carbink and Ralts were better choices.

While Mawile was capable of putting up a decent defense, Carbink's screens were better at defending a wide area. Similarly, Whimsicott would be vulnerable to both the Fire...

Chapter 101

"So after Altaria dented it, how were your Pokémon able to damage the Iron Ball two more times?"

"Well, since Altaria was able to use Flamethrower to soften it up for his attacks, I thought that if Ninetales chilled it to make it brittle we would be able to scratch it."

"Did that work?"

"No. I was looking at it from the wrong angle. I considered it as just a training tool when I really should have treated it as if we were dealing with a Steel Type Pokémon."

The train...

Steven Interlude (Part 2)

Fog surrounded the town. Gray mists filled the streets. Crowds of humans and Pokémon moved in surprisingly orderly lines to the cover of the Space-Time Towers’ garden’s trees.

Nervous sniffles and cries rang out as the ominous environment shifted and flowed around the people present. A few brave souls had tried to leave the town earlier, only to find themselves heading back towards the city itself. Whatever spatial distortions had occurred had isolated the town from the outside wor...

Steven Interlude (Part 1)

This is the Rise of Darkrai but with Steven with meta-knowledge chapter I talked about from before.  It ended up over 13,000 words long, so I had to split it up for the sake of my own sanity. These pair of chapters are technically from the future, taking place during the middle of the time period Alex is on Iron Island. The second part will come out tomorrow. I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 100

Iron Island wasn't just one small section to the west and a single cave system like it was in the games. It was much closer to how it was in the anime: a mountainous island that poked out of the sea with a small town on its westernmost shore. Most of the natural foliage had been removed in the years past as the result of an extensive mining operation, and the few plants that remained tended only to be moss or hardy shrubs.

As for the coastal town itself, I could only describe it as a gh...

Scheduling Announcement

I'm back!

Thank you for patiently waiting while I've been gone. I appreciate all the supportive comments people left for me after the last chapter.

I really love writing The Type Specialist, and I’m motivated to continue bringing consistent chapters to you all, but taking my first break since I first started publishing chapters months ago has made me realize how much I’ve pushed myself to the brink of burnout. To try to prevent that, I will need to cut back the Sunday chapters...

Chapter 99

The Canalave City Gym was located at the base of a cliffside right on the edge of town. The paved sidewalks faded away into rocky terrain, although there was still a defined road that led right up to the entrance. The building itself looked like a featureless metal cube lodged into the rock, except there was an obvious Pokéball decoration and an automatic sliding door that marked it as a Gym.

With me were Azumarill and Florges, who I hadn't sent back just yet since Whimsicott and Carbi...

One chapter left after this one. The final chapter before the break is on Wednesday.

This is another Contest chapter, except the first two sections are plot related and shouldn't be skipped.

Don't forget to read yesterday's chapter first!

The first thing I did when I got back to Jubilife was exchange some of my Pokémon. Whimsicott and Carbink were sent back alongside a list of goals to work on in th...

There are two chapters left after this one. The final chapter before the break is on Wednesday.

====================================================

I decided to take an alternate path back to Jubilife, traveling with the intention of heading to Floaroma town. More specifically, I was still on Route 203, but just avoiding the areas I had seen before.

Despite Ash being in the region, the ideas of following the same path as the Sinnoh games still appealed to m...

Chapter 96

I would say training went well, except for the fact I didn’t actually spend my time dedicatedly training my team. As it stood, we had our actual Gym Battle coming up, where Ponyta, Dedenne, and Carbink needed to compete. Ninetales, Mawile, and Whimsicott would sit this one out in favor of the newer members, but Ralts was still too new to actually participate. I still needed him, alongside the other three, to gain the battle experience they needed, however.

The focus was on De...

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
With the impending release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, The Type Specialist will be going on a one week break starting on Friday, 11/18. Regular posting will resume the Friday after, on 11/25.

The feeling of raw power was palpable.

Between Mega Altaria and Mega Aerodactyl, the audience was split between staring in stunned silence and cheering their minds out. ...

====================================================

Since our battle would be a show battle, rather than a normal battle, Roark and I spent a while to make sure we agreed on the same limitations. While we both wanted a real fight, we had to make sure the battle would both entertain the audience and demonstrate that Mega Evolution was not something to fear, but to strive for.

Chapter 93

"Are you ready, Carbink?"

Carbink nodded their body at my side. Ahead of us, a rocky cliff opened up into a wide tunnel that would lead to Oreburgh itself; a shortcut colloquially known as "Oreburgh Gate.” I was more than looking forward to braving it with my team.

It helped that I was completely sure Ash and his friends never visited this place.

Stepping forward as Carbink floated along, we entered a rocky tunnel with a flattened road that straight through the cliffside. ...

After I talked to Ralts, I stepped out of his room, exited the hallway, and walked right past that same nurse from before, where a brief glance towards her face revealed a rather guilty look. At this point, I knew she fully understood I wasn’t responsible for Ralts current state. She was most likely fully aware of just how baseless and damaging her earlier accusations had been.

As the sun set and the street lights of Jubilife slowly powered on, I leaned my head back on the couch and b...

Camp was set up within line of sight of the main path, around the pond next to the trees. A few beginning trainers passed by and tried to challenge me and my team to a battle, but I politely turned them down due to the difference in experience. While my team members needed practice, I’d already learned from the two battles earlier in the day that my Pokémon far outclassed theirs.

Ponyta and I took a few walks around the area to see if Ralts was still present, but nothing too overt. I...

I posted a chapter yesterday. Make sure you read it if you missed it.

====================================================

I strode through the main entry of the Contest Hall without issue.

I had to wait a while for Dawn and Ash to leave so I wouldn't bump into them, but once they were out of the way, no one was here to recognize me. My outfit had similar colors to "Robin," but my now visible face and completely different height meant no one even glanced my ...

Chapter 89

This is a Contest chapter. There’s a lot of mixed feelings about Contests, and I know some people just flat out don’t bother reading if they’re involved. While I suggest you read it anyway since it’s fun and adds to the world, it is still entirely contained within this one chapter so you can skip it if you absolutely don’t want to read it. Again, I don’t recommend you skip it since there’ll be references to it in other chapters.

I’ll try to do the same for future chapter...

Sinnoh.

An island region located just north of but relatively close to both Kanto and Johto. It had close ties to Johto in particular, but it also had an in-depth and historied culture of its own. Its environment was practically the opposite of Hoenn: where Hoenn sat at a low elevation and tended to have warmer weather, Sinnoh sat at a higher elevation and tended to have colder weather.

The terrain throughout the region was made up of vast hills and rolling forests. Even now, as o...

Chapter 86

My team didn't currently consist of my strongest Pokémon. Azumarill and Florges had stayed behind in Sycamore's lab with the goal of practicing Florges's Grass Type moves to let Azumarill work on developing Sap Sipper. This morning, I had sent Altaria back, swapping him out for Whimsicott. I wanted to make sure there were always at least three Pokémon in the ranch so everyone could have company.

Due to my current team composition, my only choices were Whimsicott and Mawile. Ninetales ...

Second Goal Reached!

With the five-hundred mark being passed, the second goal has been reached. I’m extremely thankful for everyone’s support, and I appreciate all the positive comments that have been posted recently.

Honestly, this development came at the perfect time. This Friday will mark the start of a new region, and to quicken it along, I’ll be posting the bonus chapter I owe alongside it for a double release. In addition, there’ll be an extra chapter on Sundays from here on out.

Altaria and I basically traveled in a straight line, going straight from Shalour to Lumiose. Interestingly enough, this was the same path I had traveled with Hope when we first left Lumiose. We spent a night camping off route, then arrived in Lumiose late afternoon the next day.

I had originally planned to send Whimsicott ahead since he expressed interest in meeting back up with Dedenne, but since traveling was taking more than one day, I had to send Ninetales over instead to ensure she...

Chapter 84

Azumarill positioned herself at the edge of the battlefield, taking up a stance to ready herself for the fighters. Across from her, Mawile opened and closed her jaws, stretching her muscles before they began.

I, on the other hand, was currently sitting on a chair off to the side of the field. It had only been two days since I left the Pokémon Center, and Ninetales was still asleep. However, Azumarill just couldn’t wait any longer and challenged Mawile to a spar. More specifically, sh...

In truth, my injury wasn't extreme enough to let me fall into complete unconsciousness. It was a comparatively minor injury next to what Ninetales was suffering from, and the only reason I was even having trouble staying awake was due to the exhaustion from both running and Mega Evolving Mawile. I was either only half-conscious, or I was trying to deal with the pain in the side of my chest.

As a result, Hope and Ramos had to support Diancie all on their own.

The clearing was lit up by iridescent light. Our camp was awash with every color of the rainbow as the Legendary Pokémon’s gaze drifted over all of us. The trees seemed to almost shift to grow towards it, and with every slight movement of its head, the branches swayed in the same direction. It was so beautiful I felt like I was looking at a living oil painting.

I wasn’t breathing. I wasn’t sure if I could breathe anymore. It wasn’t that Xerneas was preventing that reac...

Chapter 80

After I briefly told Steven everything I knew about Team Flare, like how Elite Four Malva was a part of the organization, and how they were most likely spying on everyone in the region, we spent the next few days in what was essentially isolation.

For regional security, there was an information lockdown going on with Team Flare, so we had no clue what was going on. Additionally, with Diancie in the Gym, none of us wanted to leave her alone and risk someone having an easier time going af...

Like I promised my team, I temporarily let myself forget the pressing issue of Lysandre to cook them a meal.

Food from cans and packages tended to be either flavored kibble or a mixture of various ingredients that resembled a dense chili. I personally thought they looked disgusting, but my Pokémon absolutely loved them. However, since those brands of food were generic meals specifically made for certain Types, the nutrients included were intended to support general growth rather than a...

Chapter 78

Ramos truly was a Grass Type Master.

How he explained and helped train Azumarill’s Sap Sipper ability was proof of that.

Sap Sipper was a reflection of how a few herbivorous Pokémon species evolved to absorb nutrients out of all the plants they ate. It let those Pokémon eat less and gain more, and its base benefit was key for Azumarill to maintain both her Thick Fat and dense muscles from Huge Power. However, developing it further would let Pokémon that had the ability use it...
