Hey y'all!! There's about to be some new sitewide change on Patreon, and I wanted to let y'all know about them ahead of time so you know what's happening!! It's a long one, so strap in!!
1. Because Apple is both super greedy and super against NSFW material, iOS users who subscribe through the Patreon app (not through desktop or mobile browser!) will have to pay an extra 30% fee on NEW subscriptions and upgrades. Neither the Patreon site nor creators will see a dime of this money.
If you haven't already read about the shit that the iOS App Store is pulling that's causing things to be a fuckton more expensive for iOS users if you subscribe for the first time through their Patreon app (they're charging 30% extra?!!!!!!!!), here's a link to an article from another Patreon creator about it. (I have absolutely no idea who this creator is, her post is just the very first one that comes up on Google when I was searching for a good article to link y'all to.)
Here's two reasons you most likely don't have to worry about it:
1. The 30% charge is only going to be applied to new subscribers and people upgrading their subscription! So if you are already subscribed to someone's Patreon through the iOS app before November 1, 2024, you won't receive the extra fee even if you pay through the iOS app.
2. The 30% charge is only applied if you subscribe to someone's Patreon through the iOS Patreon app. Apple can't charge you the fee if you get your Patreon membership on desktop or through your mobile browser.
3. You can still use the iOS app to scroll posts, listen to audios, etc. You just can't pay through the iOS app or you'll get the fee.
So basically: Apple users, DO NOT subscribe through the Patreon app. Subscribe via desktop or mobile browser.
2. Patreon is pushing all creators to switch to subscription-based billing. I've been resistant up until now because I've been trying to figure out how to give everyone their tier rewards in a fair and timely manner, but I'm now ready to make the switch starting this November! (Once again--this exclusively affects new subscribers!! If you're already subscribed, nothing changes for you.)
Currently my page is set up the way Patreon recommended I set it up when I started back in 2020--it's called monthly billing, where you are charged on the 1st of the month no matter what--even if your subscription started on the last day of the previous month!! It causes a lot of double charging, which is bogus and sucks, but until recently I had no control over.
Patreon now offers subscription-based billing and they appear to have finally worked out all the bugs that worried me about it when it was first introduced. Subscription-based billing means that the day of the month that you subscribed on is the day of the month you'll be charged on every time!
EDIT: I'll be starting subscription billing in November per Patreon's recommendation, to avoid anyone who uses iOS losing access to the their tier rewards by mistake (apparently there's a whole thing if I launch the new way of billing early that'll fuck with you guys' stuff--so I'm going to wait!!)
Reasons why you don't have to worry about this one, either!!
1. This exclusively affects new subscribers. If you're already subscribed, you'll continue to be billed on the same day you always have. Zero changes.
2. I will still be putting the same amount of audios out every calendar month. (So, October still gets three audios, November still gets three audios, etc etc etc) I am going to try to be stricter about my release dates. My life is finally calming down a bit (*knocks on wood*) and I'm back in a place in my health/schedule where I can once again put out 2-3 audios a week on consistent dates:
Sundays: Reddit audio
Mondays: Literotica and PH audio (same audio that was posted on Reddit)
Thursdays/Fridays: early access audios and Patreon tier audios
3. The SFW page!!
I'm thinking of starting a separate Patreon page exclusively for people who want to only see my SFW content! IMPORTANT: It will not have any audios that this page doesn't have. If you are in a tier that gives you any SFW audios, you will still get every single one of the exact same audios as I'll be putting on the SFW page! Basically, nothing is changing for peeps on this page.
So why bother making a separate page at all? I have a couple of important reasons.
1. Patreon gives SFW creators a lot more freedom and tools than it gives to NSFW creators--discounts, better behind-the-scenes tools, etc etc. I would love to be able to access these.
2. It gives me something to link to for peeps who find my work in SFW spaces like YouTube and Twitch. It often feels sketchy at best and dangerous at worst to link to my NSFW sites from places where I'm worried minors might be encountering my audios. Obviously, I realize that I can't stop people from finding me by my username. But for me personally, it feels just slightly safer and more ethical to have a SFW option around as a kind of first screen to TRY to avoid accidentally having young 'uns stumble upon my page.
3. A lot of folks listen to my audios to help them sleep and just plain prefer a SFW environment for that!
4. A few folks are starting to lose access to my audios as porn bans affect their country and/or state and lock them out of accessing NSFW pages. I want to give them that access back.
5. I am always keeping an eye on the attitudes towards porn in America, and have realized it's good to have a backup in case some horrid future where I'm not allowed to make sexy material anymore materializes. This is my full-time job, so I gotta try to be safe.
Once the page is finished, I'll post the link here on this Patreon page! Remember: there will not be any audios on the new page that aren't on this page. I will continue to post the exact same SFW audios to both pages.
