Glasgow: The return

Hi gang,

In 2024 we put on a live show in Glasgow and it was one of our favourites to date. Great venue, great audience, only one slightly offensive impersonation of Jackie Stewart in front of actual Scottish people. So, almost exactly two years after that show, we're coming back.

Once again, the show will be at the Eastwood Theatre in Giffnock, and it's going to be on Wednesday 11 February 2026.

The tickets are being sold directly by the theatre and you c...

OTLOT goes back to the 90s

Hello you,

Before we tell the rest of the world we wanted to let you, our excellent Patrons, know about our next live show. And it's a return to Britain's most 90s city, Bristol.

We had an excellent time when we were there a couple of years ago, pretending not to have heard of the internet and raving about a new band called Oasis, so we're returning to the Tobacco Factory for another live event.

It's on Monday 15 December and, brilliantly, they've got a panto on in the sam...

Our next live show

After a summer of fun at Goodwood, Festival of the Unexceptional and PistonHeads' Annual Service, we're lurching towards winter with more On That Live Of Things shows, starting next month at Great Northern Classics in Derby.

It's on Wednesday 19 November starting at 7pm and, as ever, there will be a normal podcast recording followed by an OTOSOT session featuring questions from people in the room. There's a bar on site where you can buy drinks and snacks, plus the chance to say hi to us...

Podcast 344 - OTOSOT 67

In their Friday Q&A spin-off, Jonny and Richard answer questions about confusing other road users, phrases you can’t help saying while driving, albums that suit certain cars, a car project dilemma, and unexpected number plates in unusual places.

Flute solo

Guys, guys, guys.

We're hoping to announce some new Smith and Sniff live show dates very soon but in the meantime if you'd like to hear just one of us talking bobbins on stage, I'm doing a one-off Evening With... event at the British Motor Museum next month.

I won't be completely solo because my interviewer for the night will be Paul Cowland out of the telly who will be asking about podcasting, writing, making music and, most of all, getting me to do something I've never tried b...

We're back in leeeafy London

Hi guys,

We come bearing news of our next live show (after the Morgan event this coming Wednesday). Yes, we're returning to leafy, leafy London and the splendid London Concours at the Honourable Artillery Company. It's a spiffing event and your Smith and Sniff ticket will get you through the gates to look at the sweet, sweet cars at any point during the day. That's why tickets for this OTLOT are more expensive than usual. As ever, you excellent Patrons get first dibs on the tickets befo...

Our next live show

Hi gang,

As mentioned last week, we're going back to the scene of our very first On That Live Of Things; the Morgan Experience Centre in Malvern, Worcestershire, for a live show on Wednesday 7 May.

The show will kick off at 7:30pm and go on until about 10. And, as an added bonus, if you buy a ticket you'll get a link to bag a place on a one hour factory tour for just 15 quid instead of the usual £32.50.

Live show tickets will go on sale on Monday but you, our excellent Pa...

Hi guys.

There didn’t seem to be much to illustrate this week since we were too useless to take pics of the cars we saw on the street, and there was nothing much to link to unless you really want to hear Robert Palmer’s terrible version of I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight (in association with UB40). So instead we thought this was a good opportunity to ask you, our brilliant Patrons, what you’d like from Smith and Sniff in 2025. Anything you want us to do more of? Anything you’d like ...

Guys, guys, guys, we're LIVE, LIVE, LIVE

EDIT: Sorry everyone, minor glitch, all tickets should be on sale now.

Hello again.

Well, it’s been a while since we’ve recorded a podcast or two in front of a live audience but all that is about to change. We’ve booked in not one but THREE locations in which to make live pods over the next few months, starting with the Mini factory in Oxford on 28 November. After that, we’re returning to the Aston Workshop Car Barn in Beamish, County Durham where lo...

This week in pics, we lead with C63 shenanigans at a Le Mans campsite and how that ended. Pics courtesy of listener (and pit lane heckler) James Proudfoot. Then we have Freddie Mercury making his leotard into a unitard, a black Boxster GTS 4.0 with gold wheels, and the new Bugatti Tourbillon. Sadly, we can’t find any evidence of that car insurance ad Jonny was talking about but here are some other links…

Where are this week's podcast and show notes?

Hello you,

If you were expecting the latest podcast and accompanying show notes last night and nothing has shown up that’s probably because you’re still on the old Spowahtaaaaaah tier which no longer receives those updates. To see them from now on you’ll need to switch to the new Eagle Quest tier.

Sorry about this. With the crisp logistical skill for which Smith and Sniff isn’t known, we announced a Patreon price rise before we’d looked into how this could be done. And i...

Hello and welcome to the late-running show notes for the latest podcast. Let’s not get bogged down in why they’re late when frankly it’s just a load of pics of the Eagle limo and then a brief diversion into some fancy but slightly one-end-heavy Danish cutlery. Ahem. Here are some links…

Jonny and Richard have collected the Eagle and are sitting in it as they speak. Also in this episode, washing horses, the campaign to get rid of beards, doing work experience with the Red Arrows, monocoque animals, interesting cars in Jonny’s neighbourhood, bleak Fenland houses, the demise of the guard’s van, a railway waiting room horror story, Brazilian trucks explained, ergonomic Danish cutlery, too many sunglasses being worn indoors in Top Gear, and the extremely varied stock of the s...

Right then, what’s going on in the show notes this week? Well, in pictures we start with a slightly sweaty and over-excited Richard (and a Blue Steel-faced Jason Barlow) posing with Pet Shop Boys. Then we have Jonny’s lavish JDM Nissan Bluebird Sylphy nail care kit, an actual Nissan Bluebird Sylphy, and the cover for ridiculous Steven Seagal’s ridiculous first album. In other news we have the Cobus 3000 airside bus that Jonny finds quite sporty, a classic Traaaaaansit Dormobile, the sli...

Hello again. And what do we have in the show notes this week? Well, in pictures we start with the VW California borrowed by Jonny followed by the man himself cooking inside it and the small window through which, he would like to make clear, he did not relieve himself in the middle of the night. He only thought about it. Then we have the comically narrow-tracked 1980s Hymer motorhome he might settle for, a picture of a good old fashioned caravan jackknifing, in this case featuring a Rover 75, ...

Some news about Smith and Sniff

Guys, hey, guys, look. Here’s the deal;

There are changes coming to Smith and Sniff. The first is that, from 1 May, the minimum donation to this Patreon is going up to £2.49 a month. Blame fluctuations in the Flutesy 100. Or because we kept being told by actual grown ups (and some listeners) that the original price was too low and made us look rubbish.

Where, you might ask, is the money going? Well, we can tell you one place it’s needed because… WE’VE BOUGHT THE EA...

Patreon preview - new ending music

Hello gang. Richard here with a bit of Friday nonsense. I thought we needed some new ending music for the podcast and that, for no real reason, it should be a sort of medium-paced ballad-style song.
