Something a bit different. 😊 Carl's new model went live today with the midsummer event and I'm chuffed to bits. Hence the flower crowns haha.
Lisa's dad Carl didn't have an ingame model when we started doing the first sketches for the Instagram comic, so I was asked to come up with a new design for him. We had a lot of fun deciding what he should wear and look like. And I'm really super happy that the team decided to use the concepts for him in the game!

I have some good news. I had my appointments today and the lump we found is thankfully nothing sinister. They do want to operate on it though as it could cause issues in the future, so I've been put on a waiting list to get it removed.

Some more SSO related stuff! I've been poorly recently and unfortunately I have a clinic appointment booked for next week and it's making me feel rather distressed and stressed out at times. This is a similar thing as what I had last year and it makes me rather depressed to have to go back.

Remember that horse model I made a year ago? I decided to rework him. This guy is much chonkier. His mane definitely needs more polygons as it stretches to heck in certain poses. His neck and back legs suffer from similar problems.
His weights are also a bit all over the place still. I find that the hardest thing to get right. I'll work more on the textures eventually.

These two pages are the bane of my life.
They've gone through SO MANY iterations and I realised only one of the panels has remained in the final draft.
But I've got past that now so I feel good. These panels are from both pages in no particular order (though they are actually chronological in this case..)

I thought this might be interesting for y'all? I tried to pick progress sketches and concept art that'd be interesting to look at.
We ended up going through quite a few different iterations of both characters and areas to get a better feeling for both my style and how the characters should match their ingame counterparts. Some of these didn't end up getting used or got changed a fair bit in the finals.

Quick mention about the schedule!
I got on really well with the comic in January and February, but unfortunately March very much unrolled itself with.. horses.. and I've been working overtime to get my main client's work completed.
I'm still in thumbnail stages for both ST and Tistow, but I've been able to start working on them again. ♥ So you can expect new ones soon!

I've just finished another huge chunk of work for this month and there's one day left of March. :'D It's been mental but I've really enjoyed it. I wasn't quite sure we'd make it in time, but it's all good now. I'm happy and I can go back to using my evenings with Tistow and Small Trolls.
I've been bouncing with expectation and excitement for the coming announcement. And I kinda just want it to happen now. <exhales>

I'm really super pleased with the response from the game's community, these were a lot of fun to work on.
It's been a really weird and concerning time in the world. UK is now on lockdown and some people still aren't doing a great job at staying home. It's gonna be a long three weeks.

This was fun! Some more experimenting with painting backgrounds. ♥
I've been doing a bunch of research on horse anatomy for my work. Rearing and bucking horses are really challenging to draw. The hind legs especially are a bit of a pain.
I found a really useful stack of videos recently of a stunt rider who helps dangerous horses and saves them from being put down. They have some incredible poses and these guys have been drawn from reference from said videos.
Something related to the big project we've been keeping a secret!
I completely forgot about this? If you've read the extra chapter, you'll recognise the pattern.
This is for later in the chapter. He'll be bringing the shawl somewhere with him and I was trying to figure out how he'd carry it. It's significant in the sense it's been put together by his grandmother.

I had a lot of plans for this weekend, drawing wise, but I'm gonna have to put everything off. So here's an older sketch instead.
I'm ok, but we had a riding accident involving a flood puddle and five horses on Saturday morning. It resulted in a slalom of galloping and me coming off my pony and smacking my head and hip.
