Commissioned by generous patron S.A. for their upcoming game project - a dyad of planet-sized serpents with black holes in their mouths, large enough to devour entire worlds...

One was based on a daisy flower, the other, the aster plant.

These sketches were eventually refined into the drawing se...

A great fun commission for generous patron J. M., a long-time supporter of my monster art. This one evolved out of a brief mention of a bioconstruct prop in one of Robert Reed's books.
A living couch always stood near the doorway, waiting to serve. Woven from three unrelated beasts-of-burden, none of them sentient, the organism had three pampered mouths and one shared anus, fur and fat...

Charcoals and watercolour on art paper - part of an exciting new body of impressionistic, traditional-media palaeoart.

Meet me up at Dinocon this year to purchase this - alongside many other palaeo-and-spec-evo themed artworks!<...
Created for the generous patron B. S. as the best sort of commission - he just wanted me to design "a post-human any-which way I wanted". Near-total freedom allows me to get far more creative with these designs.
Right off the bat I created five widely-different concepts:

A gift commission for my dear friend T. K. Sivgin - in honour of his fandom of the Donkey Kong universe. Behold Kroolasuchus - a spec-evo pseudosuchian that emulates the "King K. Rool" character.
This illustration actually started out as a free-style sketch of a random pseudosuchian.

Putting my newfangled impressionistic-yet-accurate palaeoart technique to the test... Portrait of the large, predatory ichthyosaur Temnodontosaurus in charcoal, wax crayons, and watercolours.

Part of the giant new secret palaeoart portfolio I'm putting together for Dinocon! 2025-07-08 10:24:10 +0000 UTC View Post

One of my generous patrons wanted to turn a palaeoart-themed stremer's logo into one of my surreal spec-evo creatures. He provided me with the original logo (seen below), and set me free to interpret it any way I wish.
I tried numerous studies to turn this cute and whimsical logo into a "believable" organism. Perhaps a hyper-evolved fungoid, or a semi-sessile animal that coincidentally looks l...

This was actually the print file for the hand-painted aquatint works I'm preparing for Dinocon 2025 - but you guys are entitled to a sneak peek. Enjoy!
I recently had all these images printed out as archival prints on art paper.
I'm now working over the prints with watercolours, pencils and gouache to produce a set of uniq...

The isopod-like near-persona alien species designed by generous patron C., in full colour. Like others, this concept started out as a series of rapid pen-and-watercolour sketches based on my patron's original art.

Created for generous patron E., both based on the sketch above.
It's easy to talk about an "ant-sized-man and a man-sized-ant" - but creating anatomically and evolutionarily-realistic renditions of these creatures is harder than it looks. Thus, I created detailed explanatory labels to go along with them - something I may extend to future commissions.
Here is the ant-sized tiny posthuman, which I named a "pismire-man". Pismire is a cool archaic En...

Behind the scenes, work on Snaiad is proceeding at full steam. I am now creating many "Mullojiforms" - mollusk-and-amphibian-like creatures from a novel, partially aquatic phylum.
The idea for this entire phylum came from this one page from one of my 1990s sketchbooks - showing a variety of creatures from an unrelated planet named "Mulloj".

My illustration of the "Tila" species from Robert Reed's "Great Ship" universe -one of the many I have contributed for this setting.
Descriptions of this species included gruesome bits of cosmetic surgery, detailed as follows:
Little surgeries and large ones had radically changed her body and limbs. Extra joints in the arms allowed her to make convincing Tilan gesture. He...

This newly-refined technique is resulting in a lot of explosive colour blends and amazing granulation effects. One really has to see it up close to appreciate it!

Charcoal and watercolour on art paper, 29 cm. wide.

I'm really loving this mixed technique. It's really difficult to show them in scans, but the way charcoal and watercolors crash and melt into each other on wet paper creates some delicious results - looking as if the shapes formed inside the surface.
