Sneakpeak: German Federal Archives

Hey all,

The second day at the German Federal Archives in Freiburg comes to a close and it's been a productive day. Since yesterday, I took about 4000 pictures - going through as many documents as I can that are relevant to my future projects. Within them, there are quite a few gems but as always with archives, the challenge is to quickly separate the beans from the peas, so you optimize your time and photographing. Tomorrow, I have another day to sift through the remai...

Sneakpeak: 2nd Shooting Location Reveal

Hey all,

For the upcoming trip to Switzerland, I'll be visiting a museum with a significant Cold War jet collection. Slotted to be filmed are:

- Northrop F-5E Tiger II
- Dassault Mirage III
- De Havilland Vampire

- Hawker Hunter (Backup)

Since we might be a bit short on time (this remains to be seen locally), the Hawker Hunter is currently a backup plan that we will film if the schedule works out.

Really looking forwar...

Sneakpeak: Location Shooting Reveal

Hey all,

In about two weeks time I'll be heading to Germany and then Switzerland. In Germany, I'll be visiting the Military Archives for a nice big chunk of research, followed by a location shoot in Switzerland. Right now, I have four planes guaranteed:

  • M.S 406
  • D.26
  • Bü 131
  • AT-6

There is a chance I get access to two museums as well (about two planes per museum, among which are Cold War jets) but this has s...

Sneakpeak: The Vee-Bombers

Hey all,

Little update from today's work. I went back to the RAF archives for some extra reading in preparation for a video on a very special plane. As you can see from the picture, we are not just branching out to WW1 but also the Cold War. Next to some fighter jets, I am looking to getting this massive bird into my lens very soon - the Avro Vulcan.

Having finished the full script today (external), I hope to have a look inside next week to ...

Sneakpeak - Albatros D.Va and Conservation

Here's a little sneakpeak on the upcoming Albatros D. Va video. Shown is me getting in and out of the cockpit for the shoot.

You'll notice two things. First, the museum provided a ladder for this so I couldn't use the spring-loaded step the Albatros has (I show it at the very end in this video). You'll also see that I have no shoes on. This is not unusual and done for conservation purposes to prevent acc...

Production Update - Tanks And Wings

Hey all,

Tankfest 2019 was a blast. For the first time, I got to see quite a few tanks that I knew only from pictures and videogames, like the Panther and Ha-Go. As well as that, on Saturday I was very happy to speak with such a diverse crowd at the Meet & Greet.

Sadly, I had to give Sunday a miss because - even though I took ample precaution - in an ironic twist the British sun seems to have gotten to me on Saturday. It was a very hot d...

Production Update - Schedule July 2019

Hey all,

This weekend I am off to Tankfest 2019 to tell the organizers about my concerns relating to the lack of wings and propellers on the display vehicles. It's a problem with the event for years and I believe a change is needed. In all seriousness, I had a blast last year and look forward to the weekend. If you happen to go yourself, come say hey!

In any case, a short update for all of you on what's going on. Next week, I'll be moving flat which means I'll be ...

Big news: Studio incoming

Hey all,

I have some big news lined up. I will be moving to a new flat with a spare room that I can now design into a studio, with proper lighting, acoustics and a background that gives me more options. The lack of such a space has been a real break on my work, as previously I either had to film in my living room or bedroom - with the corresponding equipment such as lighting, camera placement and mics essentially blocking the whole room for the duration of the shoot. Sneakpeak: German Flak - Deadly or overrated?

Hey all,

In one of the upcoming video I will be looking at German Air Defenses and their effectiveness versus incoming bomber streams. I always felt like this is an element worth analyzing, since Air Defense is more than just the often discussed fighter interceptors.

With the German Flak, I've got the advantage of being able to look at the German primary sources material, as well as the American and British sources. I will focus mainly on the USAAF, since night de...

VIDEO: Myth & Reality of the Dambuster Raid

Hey all,

This video features a discussion with aviation historian Victoria Taylor on the Dambuster raid of 1943.

In the discussion we talk about many aspects surrounding the Dambuster raid that are neglected in the popular narrative and also look at the German perspective.  Victoria, who has also published on the Dambusters, has learned German as part of her historical studies, is one of the (few?) non-German historians that has continu...

Upcoming filming dates

Hey all,

After filming the C-47 Skytrain/Dakota last weekend, I have another filming date coming up next week. It will be with a major museum filming two illustrious WW1 birds

These aircraft are of course rare and somewhat of a novelty, which is why I am so happy that we managed to get this organized. Hopefully we are also able to get inside the cockpits - something that still has to be confirmed.

More to come on the filming day!

Filming Schedule

Hey all,

Quick production update on the ongoing projects.

The TBD-1 video is ready to be fimed and animated. It is the most extensive script I have yet produced for a video focused on a single plane and I can't wait to show it to you once completed.

Second, the scripts for the Albatros D.V and R.E.8 are both completed, together with the Douglas C.47 Skytrain which is about 50% done.  The C.47 will be filmed ...
