The Smallest Pentium Gaming PC Build!

UPDATE: I fixed some minor issues with the video and re-uploaded it. I'm working on subtitles now and when those are finished I'm going to release it. Nothing major was changed from the other version, the video has noise reduction now and I fixed the blurry cable picture. I also fixed the audio change during the Quake GL segment.

Sorry for how long this video took to get out. There were a few things that took my attention away from getting videos done earlier this month and then pushin...

Small Behind the Scenes Sneak Peak

Hello all,

It's been a little bit since I posted but I've been absolutely getting my butt handed to me by my next project but it's finally looking like it's in its final form. I've been working on this system off and on for about a year and it's been a wild ride. This last couple of weeks though I've been really pushing to get it done. After throwing a bit of money at the problems and realizing some pebkacs it's almost done. I'm really excited to finally let it see the light of day on ...

The Killer POKE

This was a much more involved video to make that usual. But it's was a really enlightening one for me. The course of this video evolved a lot and I think this may have ended up as the most detail explanation of what happens yet.

Blip Music Track and Music-less Video

I thought it might be fun to share the music track as it's own thing since I made it and I can do with it what I want! It's 6:30 of a lot of the same stuff so do keep some reasonable expectations. If there is interest I could fairly easily make a shorter ~2m cut of the music in something more resembling a proper song rather than background music.

The music was written before the video was filmed as "blocks" with Seq24 the MIDI editing software I mentioned in the SK-88 video. After film...

Blip - 1977 Mechanical Pong - UPDATE

This is a short video but it took a lot of work because it is the first one I've made with music, that I wrote myself for it! It's not  amazing music, but I think it fits the theme well.

I'm really curious about feedback on this one.

UPDATE - I re-rendered the video to fix some audio level issues. I tried to fix the black frame between the TV-Tennis ad and the Screen Tennis box but it's not a timeline/editing issue and for some reason Resolve just keeps putting a black f...

Roland SK-88 Pro Sound Canvas Keyboard

Woo!

I'm really happy with how this video turned out. I actually completely re-recorded the whole thing from scratch after not being happy with the first version. The second time I decided to do it like I did the PS 3D Display video and I think that was the right choice. I think I should really make more of my videos in this style because it does make it easier to put the whole thing together in a quality way.

Also this keyboard has become one of my favourite things I own now. I...

Video Production Update

Hello, I know it's been a little while since I've made a post. I had some personal stuff happen right around the time all the other stuff hit the fan around the world. So I haven't been able to get as much work done as I would have liked.

But my load is lightening up now and I am getting onto the next video.  I just wanted to drop in and say hi and let you know that things are starting to progress again.

Commdore 64 Drive on PC with XA1541Cable

This won't be the final released video because I need to make a few corrections, but this is close enough to done that you'll barely notice a difference.

This was an accidental video in a way. I've still been trying to make the video I wanted to using my PET and it really has been one of the biggest pains I've had with setting up one my my vintage computers.

But while trying to get this to work I ended up making an XA1541 cable which was way better and easier to use tha...

Copper Tape PCB Repair - Micro Tangent

Another video!

I figured out what I want to do with these new shorter videos. They're going to be the first new series on the channel called "Micro Tangents". I've gone back and recorded new intros for the other videos to introduce the concept. I'll be uploading those later today. I'm going to try releasing these as "extra" videos on Wednesdays in between main videos. So far these have all been things I would have been doing anyway but aren't significant enough to deserve a big video.<...

Dot Matrix Printer Stuck Pin Fix

This was a video I needed to get done before I could more on to the one I actually wanted to do. It was really nice to make a short video from the start for a change. I may be doing another short fix video like this, maybe this could be a series? If I do, I should make it some kind of more generic "quick tips" type thing because the turbo display video could fit with this as well.

Sub 10m videos are supposedly not a great idea for some reason. But for simple repairs like this it's just...

Turbo Display Setup Tips

This is an experimental video, this is all old footage that I shot when I built this system or from other videos. I recorded some voice overs and threw a bit of info before the main shot to finish it out.

Originally I decided not to finish this one because turbo displays can be very different and this was just how to set up mine. But I tried to do enough research to get you familiar with how it may work on others so maybe it is helpful.

HP 16500C Re-Edit

After some of the feedback I got from the Supporter Update video I decided to go back and give this video another shot with a trimmed down edit and splitting it into two videos. I cut out around 15m of random stuff that didn't really make this better and was able to split it neatly evenly between doing the mods and testing. I think this makes for a much better flow and will give me a little bit more breathing room on my current projects.

Supporter Update Video - UPDATE, Fixed Audio

EDIT: Oops, I didn't realize this didn't have audio. I'll have to re-render to fix that in a bit.

EDIT 2: Audio is fixed. There is a bit of irony about all of this in the beginning of the video...

This was a video I've been meaning to get to for a while now.

It's 1080p only so it wouldn't take as long to upload

Another Patron Olny Video - Modding my HP 16500C Logic Analyzer

This is a another video that didn't really go as planned and I didn't really like how it turned out. It's very "rambly" again as well. I'm starting to think more about making more scripted videos now, but that's something I'd rather get into later in a patron update video.

This was me wanting to get my recently acquired HP 16500C Logic Analysis Mainframe ready for usage while filming. It's a very interesting piece of older test gear that's really more computer than anything else. I'm l...

The Comptometer

This video fought me for every step of the way to get this done but it's finally finished.

The last adding machine video was far to long and rambly so I went the scripted route with this one and I feel the results are so much better for it. I really like how this video turned out and am really happy to have finally shared what is now one of my absolute most favourite calculators in my collection!

This was a somewhat spontaneous video that underwent some significant revisions while working on it. I got the comptometer in the middle of making it for one...

I kinda went overboard on this one as well. It's got history, cleaning, and tutorials all in one. I should learn to break out videos into smaller parts better.

Patron Only Video - Dauphin DTR-1 Backup

This video really didn't go how I planned it to. I wanted it to be a demonstration of interlnk and mTCP but it I wasn't able to do that in the end.

I'm not happy with this result but decided to push through this one to the end since I filmed pretty much everything. So this can be an example of a video that didn't pass the muster. I've had quite a few projects turn out like this and I usually just delete the footage and move on to something else.

I don't think I'm going to make t...

Small Update

I just wanted to drop in and say I'm not sure if I'll have a video this weekend. I've been struggling with fulfilling ATX2PCjr orders and trying to get some car troubles resolved while working on a project for a video. I've got a lot of work done to the point where I'm pretty much ready to shoot. I just haven't had the time yet.

So there will be a video soon. It's going to be on different ways to get data onto and off of older DOS computers. I had someone ask me about DOS networking a...

I bought 1970s Data General Mini Computers!

Finally a video about these is ready.  This ended up being more the kind of video I wanted to see about these systems before I picked them up because there is very little out there that shows you all around them and talks about transporting them.

Data General Nova's in Their New Home

I wanted to give you all an update on this because it has been taking up a ton of my time. I've finally finished getting the Data General systems set up again just as they were before I moved them and I'm now finally able to begin working on them. But I'm going to be going really slowly on this so I don't break anything. If you want to read some more about these systems in detail I made a post on VFCed about them here: 2020-01-12 16:04:23 +0000 UTC View Post

Nintendo Power Glove On Windows PC

This was a fun idea I had to try out and I'm happy with the results overall. Using a Power Glove on PC!

Also, an update on the Data General. I was able to successfully pick it up! I have some pictures up twitter if you want to get some sneak peaks. I'm probably going to record a pickup/introduction video next about it, I'm really excited and it's so cool!

A little delay for some big excitement

So.. this last week I've been working on setting up a new filming area to record at and that's been going pretty well. My plan was to record a simpler video towards the end of the week for a Friday release.

Well also for this last week, I've been in contact with someone local about a Data General Nova 4, microNova, with a Dasher D2 terminal and I just closed the deal on buying them! This Thursday I'll be going to pick them up! I have to work on clearing a space where I can put them and...

Another video! This is probably my most requested video since this has been visible in the background a few times.

A few of these have been featured in videos already but now you get to see them in a more natural state. There are a couple of things here that will probably get there own videos in the future. This was a fun simple video to make and I'm thinking it could be fun to make this an annual thing as well to check in on what changes. Like the DVD player I'm already thinking about...

This was something I picked up a little while ago because it put a smile on my face. It's not the most exciting video but maybe it will appeal to some people like it did to me.

This was an effort to get a lower production effort video out before I had to go out of town. I think I covered everything I could about this but there isn't really much that's all that exciting about it. It's just one of those things that feels right in a computer setup like this to me.  &n...

Getting Set Up for VGA Capture

This was not a video I planned to make. I was totally derailed from a bigger video project by this and lost about a week and a half to testing and tuning this.

One thing working on this video really highlighted to me is that I need a different dedicated area for setting up computers where I can film. I think I'm going to try to setup a desk next to my main desk I used to film at to give myself a space I can use as a long term computer setup. It's a real pain needing to setup every sing...
