Coleco Adam PSU Project Update

I've finally got everything in today for getting to the next major milestone on the Coleco Adam PSU I've been working on. And it is now a real functioning  thing!

There are a few minor issues that I need to sort out but there isn't a ton left to do now before I can wrap this up as phase one and get a video made about it.

This is a much more complicated project than the ATX2PCjr so I'm a bit more proud of this one. I'm also really looking forward to getting a better PSU opt...

Sorry this one is a week late. I've still been putting a lot of time into the Coleco Adam PSU project. But I also realized my last few videos hadn't been that great and decided I wanted to really step it up for my next one.

So this is the first normal video I've ever done where I wrote a script then shot the video.  It ended up being much denser than my videos typically are. I'm really curious to hear what everyone thinks about this format.

I also have a few general ...

Xbox Common Repairs, Capacitor Removal, Belts, & Controller Cable

Sorry this one took so long, I actually had it done Thursday but had to wait for approval from the sponsor to release it. I'm going to rethink how I handle that in the future.

But, I actually got a lot of other work done while I was before and after this! I'm working on a new power supply kit for the Coleco Adam! I have the schematic and the parts selection done now and am starting the board design now. This one is very different from the the ATX2PCjr, I'm designing two SMPS's in it fo...

MailCall 0x06: Mail from viewers like you!

I should be starting to get caught back up now. I had to go out of town this last week but my schedule is free and clear now to get back to video production!

Oh yeah, I tried a completely different style of color grading this time. Some shots I think came out really good, others could maybe use some more work. But I think that this could refined in the future to something with a lot more visual interest.

1970 Panasonic Flip Clock

Oh man there were so many delays on this next video, I'm sorry it's so late.

I had three projects fail on me in a row I tried to make videos out of:

 - The TRS-80 Model 4 definitely needs work on the floppy controller
- The Tecmar jrCaptain I was given doesn't work and may have a bad PAL
- I got a TI Silent 700 thermal paper terminal has unusual bad caps ruining the pulsing timing for the stepper motor to advance the paper.

I can still go back and try to finis...

A couple small things

I've been busier than I thought on getting everything back into presentable shape this week and I'll try to get a video finished tomorrow but it's not looking great at the moment.

But I do have a couple of things you may find interesting.

On the second channel I put up a short video follow up on the floppy drive refurb I did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elJ49k1xAT4

As I've been working...

TRS-80 Model 1 Expansion Cable Repair

I recently picked up this Model 1 (which is exciting on multiple levels, one of which being that I now have at least some example of the three computers released in 1977!) and I'm still getting to know it. But I had to make a new cable for the expansion interface. It wasn't going to be a long project and I don't normally film things like this. so I decided to try something new and make a shorter "reference" type video. To keep the actual project of making the cable from getting bogged down fr...

TRS-80 DT-1 Refurb Part 2

And the finale! This thing rocks, it's now one of my favourite pieces in my collection and I'm probably going to leave it out on my desk all the time.

EDIT: I mentioned in the video that I'll have a more in depth look at the setup menu in another video. That is shot (I think, hopefully I have everything I need) but I don't have that one edited yet but I'll update this post when I get a chance to. It's going to be more for anyone who actually has one of these but lacks the experience wi...

TRS-80 DT-1 Refurb Part 1

This video has been in production for well over a month now and I'm so glad it's finally being finished. The whole thing is an hour long so I decided to split it into two parts to make it less daunting to begin watching.

There were a LOT of behind the scenes changes that happened while making this video that drug it out. I am now using Fedora as my main OS, that took a while to get settled in and adjusted to. And I updated to Resolve 16 which hasn't been totally smooth. These changes r...

My Trip to VCF West 2019

I've finally gone back and edited my footage from VCF West 2019!

This was a very different kind of video for me to make. The LTX video was comprised of many small segments but I had a flowing native for that so I didn't have to figure out how to put it together. This though, was starting from nothing. So there may be some growing pains in this as I gave it my best shot. I'm pretty sure that I probably put 1hr of work into every minute of footage for this. Most videos I can nea...

Easy Plastic Reconstruction and Repair

This is going to be the video I put the sponsor segment in, I wasn't sure about putting up a non-sponsored version here for a few reasons. But the approval and publishing requirements are weird so this is an easy way for me to give everyone here early access.

So this exact video won't be the final one that goes public.

Anyway, this project turned out way better than I thought and I think anyone who does repair work is going to find this process really interesting.

I really didn't like how the last one turned out so I redid it completely. Now I have it finished and working in the video instead of just saying how it will work.

This was a simple video that I kind of needed to make to cover this topic. It's also giving me time while I work on some other more complicated videos.

Potentially Sponsered Videos?

Yesterday I received my first offer for a sponsored video that isn't something I wouldn't immediately dismiss. It's not a review, and not just a cash grab like mobile games. I haven't replied yet, but from what I'm finding for estimates on what they may offer, the amount they would likely offer could be around 50X what I get from YT ads per video on the low end.

Normally I'm not trying to make as much as I can from the videos like this, but the time leading up to LTX took a big bite ou...

Exhibiting at LTX 2019!

Woo! I'm really excited to get this video done and out.

EDIT: I tweaked the video and reuploaded it to blur the emails exchanged back and forth about setting up the booth. I had already removed any sensitive information from the text but it was still making people question it so it was clearly a distraction. This better reflects what I wanted for that segment anyway because the simple animations are meant to summarize the emails anyway, so blurring them keeps you focused on those.

Back from VCF West!

I'm done gallivanting around for a while now finally(though I'm going to try to make my way out to Dallas to visit Computer Reset at some point). VCF West was a lot of fun and I got to meet a lot of cool people and see a lot of cool exhibits. I think I'm going to have a really fun video from it all, but I'm going to get the LTX videos done first since those are more likely to get new viewers ( especially thanks to the video I did with Gamers Nexus: 2019-08-05 19:56:16 +0000 UTC View Post

Back from LTX 2019!

Whew, what a wild ride that was!

Sorry I haven't been able to get as many videos out this month, but setting up everything
for LTX took a huge chunk of my time. I had over 20 computers on display and set up for people to use!

I took video and some pictures of everything while I was there but it was really a lot more work than I was anticipating and I didn't have a lot of down time for shooting. I'm pretty confident I have material for two videos at least though about the whol...

Text Update And Short Term Plans

Hello all!

I figured I'd send out an update on my getting things ready for LTX and video plans leading up to it, as well as some other news.

First off, I'm planning to do a livestream of opening viewer mail tomorrow at around 10am MST (UTC -7). I figure that video type could transition to live fairly well and not be significantly different.

LTX Prep is coming along nicely, I've been posting about the systems I'm bringing while I'm testing an documenting them all on Twitte...

Gateway 2000 AnyKey Macro Keyboard

Finally a video.

I lost a fair bit of time on prepping an i-Glasses! headset for LTX that I thought I was going to get a video out of. I couldn't get the head tracking working on the headset after fighting it(and the 6x86 computer I built for it) for 4 days. While working on that I recorded a little bit of it working with my phone if you want a quick peek at it: https://photos.app.goo.gl/264ncU2W73HDCGzX8<...

Supporters Update June 2019

It's been a while since the last update but I've got some huge changes for making videos. I've finally got a dedicated filming space!

(when I'm posting this the video isn't done processing on YT yet and isn't up to 4k yet. But it should be there by the morning)

PS: I really think YT is picking the goofiest frames it can for making thumbnails. All three options were terrible.

Roland TD-7 MIDI Drum Sound Module

This thing caught my eye at a thrift store sitting behind some DVD players. I'm really glad I found it because it turned out to be pretty cool!

There are recordings of music in this video that I did by holding the mic up to a speaker. I think it turned out mostly okay but it's not stereo or 100% representative of the final audio. I think it's good enough though, I didn't really think about it until after I had to whole video almost completely edited. If it doesn't work, let me know and...

LTX Teaser

I was asked if there was anything I would like LTX to promote so I whipped up this little teaser trailer. I didn't know when or how they were going to use it but they just posted it to Twitter so I figured I would link it here for everyone as well.

The next video is in editing now and features a Roland MIDI device that you are likely not that familiar with... It should be ready tomorrow!

AdLib Kit Assembly

Another video! This one has actually been shot for a while and I finally got around to editing it. I thought I was going to have to add music to it because I showed a lot of soldering. But I ended up just speeding up that footage with voice over instead. I welcome feedback on that, that part goes by pretty fast but I don't think there needs to be too much focus on just soldering.

This was a rather spontaneous video because I was really excited to try this thing out. I bought it and filmed on the same day. This is also the first video on the new set! There is a problem though, the server is in the closet in this room and can be heard. I need to figure something out for that.

Hybrid Keyboard - Creative Prodikeys PC-MIDI

This is another quick video I'll put out Tuesday, I didn't really think this was all that video worthy when I first picked it up but it has grown on me as I used it. I still need to get the description done but here's an early look at it.

My 486 PC Build is finished. Hopefully I'll get the video edited soon(at least by next weekend). I'm quite busy this week, I'll have more details on why in a future update. (But here's a hint, I need to get around to updating my goals here)

Bonus Video: John Romero's Sigil in DOS on a 486 with a Roland SC-55

My 486 DOS build is going very well, it's taking longer than I expected but it hit the usable mark today. I just got my copy of Sigil a couple days ago and have been itching to try getting it running on here. Today I finally got a chance and it worked great! So I figured I'd just make a quick video showing that it is possible. (and you know if it got some views because the game is popular right now that would be nice)

Additional Content Channel

I keep wanting to put out simple little unpolished videos about cool things I have or come across but I try to only put fully produced content on the main channel. Things like the Roland MIDI Organ that I think will take a long time to get to make a video on or something that I don't know if I'll be able to make into a video like this since I already covered this topic.

So I created a second channel for additional content. It will mostly be stuff like this but I'll possibly put other s...
