The Pack Pack! Inventory Sheets for the most common starting equipment

These beautiful babies are Zach's brain child. I love them and I hope you do, too.

The town for a campaign Zach is DMing. =) Super psyched. Patrons can grab a blank version of the image and a psd for their own nefarious purposes.

Masterwork: A 5e Equipment Mod (Update)

I have always been a little disappointed in the item options I have in 5e. Armor doesn't quite make sense (why can't I have padded armor on under my chain armor?) but it works well enough, though without careful management on the DMs part of how much gold is meted out, players very quickly acquire the best non-magical armor in short order.  Weapons aren't much different. There are a few best options for the builds that care about weapons, and those are acquired without much noise.

Nightingale: A Roguish Archetype for D&D 5e

Become an agent in the service of all that is good and true in our latest Arcana Check, which allows you to step into the role of a Nightingale, a rogue subclass with paladin spells, terrifying skill with silvered weapons, and the ability to ferret out evil wherever it exists. Free PDF on below.

Power Chord: Kill

This one has been percolating for a while. It's a labor of love, and I'm definitely interested in community feedback!

The College of Metal is for bards who live fast, die hard, and want to be the art for a Manowar album without rolling a barbarian.

And Bardic Songs are my attempt to bring back the feel of 3.5 bards.

edits:
1.1.1 - Feb. 25, 2019 -  Toned down the power level of the College of Metal by a lot, and swapped some names around for thematic purposes. Those w...

Arcana Check: Spellswords

Okay, this took way too long, but it's finally done. We're always interested in your thoughts, on these, and on what you want to see next.

1.0.1 uploaded, fixing a few typos that slipped through.

Spellsword Update

As the audio file says, this latest Arcana Check is going through a bit more back-and-forth than I anticipated. I figured I'd give you guys a sneak peek at what's gonna be in it (more or less) and a bit of a look at what kinds of things we are doing to these documents to get them ready.

Death's Door 2.0

To prepare for the Arcana Check's first official setting, we've updated Death's Door to 2.0. The mechanics are very different, and overall, the mechanic is a lot harder to cheat, and has fewer points of confusion.

The original Death's Door post will be left online for posterity.

Edit:

Updated to 2.0.2 - plugged some holes in the clarity, fixed some typos, and changed some systems that didn't test well.

Overburdened: Weight & Bag Rules for D&D 5e

Definitely interested in feedback on this one. I've used versions of this in about 12 sessions, and it made the book-keeping easier -- but it requires book-keeping, so if you've been ignoring weight and such, this isn't for you.

Coming up next, assuming I can balance them - gishy subclasses =)

A Price to Pay

I was chain-watching The Animated Spellbook and I adored his idea of using hit die as fuel for magic items. So I went and made a bunch of items that do this, and I hope you guys like them.

If you're in The Crew, make sure to go vote on what module the characters in the web series are starting. (This isn't issue 3 - it's just a fun thing to do while I pluck away at the paper comic...

Dragonborn Revisited

I put a lot into this. I'm going to write up a postmortem for the production blog, so look for that soon. In the meantime, when I close my eyes, all I see are the variations on breath attacks that I threw out of this document.

The PDF is attached. Feedback welcome!

Humanity Revisited

Humans in the PHB are boring. This is my take on making humans as I understand them fit better into a fantasy world.

Death's Door

Alternative rules for dealing with the moment a player drops to 0 HP.

Basically, I detest the removal of agency. This lets players make decisions all the way into the dark.

It makes players harder to kill, but makes falling to 0 HP terrifying in a new, fun way.

Inspired heavily by Darkest Dungeon.

Comics that Never Were #2

In advance, I want to warn you that the scripts for what I am going to describe are lost to time.

#

When Zach and I finished issue #1 and realized we had something special in Thieves Can't, I went to town on writing issue #2.

Candor, Reynauldo, Keelie, and Ormond set forth after the spell scrolls. They found the goblins camping at the entrance to a massive dwarven cave structure (Doc's Deep, on the map from issue #1).

Candor proceeded to try her hand at negotiating with...

Comics that Never Were - #1

As you probably know from the blog, Zach and I are not making comics this week. He is helping his partner recover. Until we're back on our normal production feet, I'll be posting these.

#

I was going to post some stuff from Thieves Can't Strip (the one-shot jokes we're doing lately), but actually, it occurs to me that most of you probably don't know how Thieves Can't came into being. There are plenty of abandoned scripts from the early inception of the comic and I think they're a bit mor...

Enchanted Metals

Hey everyone,

A reminder that we are approaching a pretty big Patreon Shake-up. It's been pushed back longer than I thought it would because Zach's S.O. is currently in the hospital, but it is coming.

For now though, please enjoy Enchanted Metals, the latest addition to the Arcana Check.

Behind the scenes look - comic #36 (mmmmonday?)

Hey guys,

I wanted to give y'all a behind-the-scenes look at how these comics look when Zach and I are first poop'n em out. =)

This might change a lot between now and monday, or uh, Friday, if another thing we're doing gets done before this does.

Ignore the typos. They're there. I don't see them yet, but I know the little fuckers are in there. I hunt for them when I set fonts.

Patreon Overhaul - Post #2

Hey everyone,

In thinking about what our Patreon actually offers, and in what sort of things we'd like to make, we're moving more toward an identity as a publisher. This makes the most sense for us, since we're building relationships with printers and, you know, our primary product is a comic.

We want to produce supplements -- adventures, paper minis, bestiaries, settings -- and you guys are going to be the first ones to see all this. Starting when we release the adventure to go along wi...
