After the chaos of the last few weeks, it seems rather comforting to return to the bosom/bowels/embrace of the System Neutral Monstrous Lair line. And what could be more relaxing than a necromancer’s sanctum or a mad hermit’s hideaway? (Of course, the inspiration for the mad hermit’s hideaway comes from B2 Keep on the Borderlands and whose campaign won’t feature a foul necromancer at some point?)
I hope you can find a spot in your folder for both Monstrous Lairs. (I par...

This week, we have the first two books in the new Urban Locales line. You might recall I posted a sneak peek at these books before Christmas. At the time, the books fell under the OGL. However, given recent events and revelations, I’ve decided to transition this line to full System Neutral status (pending further developments). This doesn’t really mean much in regards to the book’s contents—they were already pretty System Neutral—but I have removed the OGL and taken another developm...

This week, in a change of scheduled plan, Raging Swan Press has a new Dungeon Backdrop for you! This is particularly exciting as I’m also including a first look at what a System Neutral Dungeon Backdrop will look like.
You get the 5e, OSR and P1 editions of Hidden Redoubt of Gilak Urser in the normal way while I have attached the draft System Neutral edition to this post.

With all the controversy over the upcoming OGL changes and Wizard’s recent statement that supplements already released will be unaffected by the upcoming license (whatever form it takes), it seems jolly sensible that I should bring forward the release of several large compilations we have in the design and development pipeline.
The affected books are:
- GM’s Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing (OSR)
- GM’s Miscellany: Wilderness Dressing (5e, OSR and P1)

Do you see what I did there?
I live in Torquay, Devon. But ten miles away or so lies Dartmoor; I love Dartmoor—it’s a magical place, and I’ve set many adventures in rolling moorland. It’s baffling to me, then, that when we originally released the Wilderness Dressing line back in 2013 or thereabouts, we never published a moorland supplement. Well, today we right that wrong!
Behold, Wilderness Dressing: Moorland in 5e, OSR and Pathfinder 1 editions. And check out th...

I’ve received many questions in the last week about the leaked draft of the OGL 1.1 and its effect on Raging Swan Press.
I’ve attempted to set out my thoughts several times. Every time, my reply gets ever longer, and I get lost in the weeds. So, here’s the short version:
Version 1.1 as it stands—in particular, the deauthorisation of version 1.0a—is an existential threat to Raging Swan Press. I’d be clinically insane to sign 1.1 as it stands. Although it is only a draft...

And we are back! I hope you had a restful and rejuvenating festive break and that 2023 is already looking like it will be a better year for you than 2022.
At Raging Swan Press, we are diving straight back into gaming doings. We start 2023 with two new Monstrous Lairs to add to your toolbox. Pirates and dark priests are perennial foes in many campaigns, so I hope you can find a use for this week’s releases. These two books are completely free for you as a thank you for your epic suppor...

It’s that time again: Christmas is imminently here, and so Raging Swan Press is slipping into a state of quasi-hibernation.
Thank you for your support, trust, and attention in 2022. You enable us to do what we love doing—publishing books designed to make our games better through the inclusion of detail, flavour and verisimilitude. Without you, the Dread Thingonomicon would prob...

I had a surprise earlier this year; when I downloaded a report of all our sales at DriveThruRPG going back 12 years: Portentous Dreams was #19 on our best-seller list! (You might not think that is very good, but we have over 1,100 products for sale at DriveThruRPG). Clearly, this was a book that needed updating for 5e and OSR games! This week, that’s exactly what we have for you! (And we have an update for you Pathfinder fans out there.)
I love using prophetic, mood-establish...

The schedule is packed this week as I am plotting a week off(ish) over Christmas. (I hope you will also get some time away from work to relax over the festive break). We have two new Monstrous Lairs for you—Werewolf’s Forest and Druid’s Grove—and Wilderness Dressing: Castles (for 5e, OSR and Pathfinder 1 games).
That’s a lot to get through, and I hope you find them useful. In other news, I’ve started work on the first two instalments in the Urban Locales line. The line debut...

Many, many years ago, we published GM’s Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing (P1) and (System Neutral) editions. A few years ago, we re-released the series with a new layout, new art and an editing polish (or two). This week, we release GM’s Miscellany: Dungeon Dressing (5e). Early next year, the OSR edition will slip into the world. Why do we spend so much time dressing dungeons?
Because adventures set in immersive and believable dungeons are better than those tha...

If I’d themed this month’s Wilderness Dressing release correctly, it would be called Wilderness Dressing: Wind & Rain. But I didn’t, and so we are off to the lands of Snow & Ice instead!
Of course, your characters don’t have to actually travel into the frigid north (or south) for you to use this supplement. Adventures in the depth of winter can spawn all sorts of other problems for the characters beyond the typical monsters and suchlike. For example, the adventu...

This week, we return to the Monstrous Lair line and some more monsters we unbelievably missed on our first (and second) run through the Monster Manual. I haven’t had the occasion to use bulettes much in my campaigns, but stirges pop up regularly! (In fact, back in the good old days of 3.5 I had great fun attacking groups with half-dragon stirges).
Add a pack of stirges to your next adventure—your players will thank you!

As 2022 lumbers toward a close, I’ve started thinking about 2023’s release schedule. I work several months ahead—I have to if I want to keep up with the release schedule—and shortly, I must start plotting January’s books.
I’m thinking about introducing some new lines (and resurrecting some old ones) next year, and I’m wondering what you think about the options below. These new options would run alongside our current lines, such as Wilderness Dressing, Dungeon Backdrops and...

I get the occasional email bemoaning the vast amount of products we’ve published over the last 12 years. Fair enough; we do have a fair few knocking about.
One line that could really, really benefit from an index is the Village Backdrop line. The line ran for about eight years. During that time, we published books for 5e, OSR (also known as System Neutral), Pathfinder 1 and Pathfinder 2. There’s no point having loads of villages to hand, if you cannot find the one you need.

This week, we return to the Forbidden Isle for the Pathfinder 1 conversion of Forbidden Isle of the Nightstalkers. As you might remember, last month we released the 5e-compatible edition of this adventure. Therefore, this week patrons at the $5 and up levels will also find codes for the module’s 5e edition in their inbox.
Converting this adventure to OSR is tricky. When I wrote the 5e edition, I wasn’t really thinking about conversions, and vampires in OSR are somewhat more...

Weather is often overlooked in gaming. If an adventure is set underground, weather is not normally a factor. (Although, obviously, it can be.) For wilderness adventures, though, weather can sometimes rear its ugly weather. Some weather is neither here nor there, but sometimes you want to add rainstorms, gales and more into your game.
That’s where Wilderness Dressing: Extreme Weather comes in. Available in 5e, OSR and Pathfinder 1 edition the book helps you add another fun cha...

It’s Monstrous Lairs week! This week, we once again focus on two monsters we really, really should have featured before this. In fact, I’m not sure (again) how we overlooked them.
I’ve sat down repeatedly with Steve Hood—one of the main contributors to the line—to work out what to feature over the coming year. Both times, we missed purple worms and will-o’-wisp. I’m not sure how that happened, but this week we rectify the problem.
On that subject, if you can think of...

I’m a little bit embarrassed we haven’t done wraiths or lichs before in the Monstrous Lair line. I mean, they are pretty iconic foes. I’m not sure how they slipped through the net.
