Mountains and Merchants Ahoy!

This week, the Wilderness Dressing line reaches new heights! (Do you see what I did there?) Where once there were hills and ruins now there are mountains!

Thanks to your support, we've got another absolutely epic Matt Morrow illustration for this book. Check this out:

I love the sense of dynamic action in this image. I think Matt has done a tremendous job; this would make a gre...

The Vile Star Storyline

Ahead of the release of the last part of the Vile Star Storyline next month, we now have the Storyline document available!

This is a free supplement, which you'll find attached to this message.

The actual book won't go live at our store for a couple of weeks, but I wanted you to have it now in case you were champing at the bit!

Enjoy

Urban Landmarks Aplenty

Several months ago, I asked what Raging Swan Press could do for you in 2022. One of the (fantastic) ideas I got back was a book of Urban Landmarks a GM could just drop into their town or city. I loved the idea, and this month's 20 Things instalment is the result.

Behold: 20 Things #70: Urban Landmarks!

I hope you like it and that you can find a spot in your favourite town or city for some of the locales.

And remember, th...

To Starfall Chantry!

Bart Wynants returns to the fray this month with the second Dungeon Backdrop in the Vile Star storyline—Starfall Chantry. Starfall Chantry is available in 5e, OSR and Pathfinder 1 editions. If you plan to run the Dungeon Backdrop, head on over to our store to download the tagged and untagged maps for the ruin.

On the Vile Star front, the storyline document will be out soon. We are finishing up develo...

A Herd of Dragons!

(Or is that a flock, a flange or a school?)

This week, we continue phase two of the Monstrous Lair line with two new entries (and—as always—a remastered entry) for your gaming pleasure. The new Monstrous Lairs this month are rather danger-filled; dare your characters enter a green or black dragon’s lair?

And check out this amazing piece of art from Matt Morrow for the upcoming Wilderness Dressing: Mountains. I’m amazed by Matt’s skill and I love the scene he h...

CSV Files For Online Gaming

I was recently contacted by a customer who wanted to know if we would make some of our books available as .csv files--think stripped-down OS neutral spreadsheets if you are not wise in the ways of spreadsheets--as apparently, they are easier to load into various online gaming services.

This is something I have zero knowledge or experience of and so I thought I'd see if anyone here had a similar need.

I have attached a sample output in a variety of formats for you to take a look at...

Into the Crumbling Ruins

This week, we are back with another Wilderness Dressing release. This time, John Bennett takes a look at the crumbling, delipidated ruins that dot the wilderness areas of all our campaigns. Why not pair it with last month’s Wilderness Dressing: Hills? (And, it also goes nicely with Dungeon Backdrop: Ruin of Bleak Hill or Dungeon Backdrop: Starfall Chantry (which releases at the end of the month).

Henchfolk & Hirelings

I love the idea of henchfolk and hirelings. In earlier editions of the game, they were a great way of rounding out a small party, but they've fallen out of fashion somewhat now.

We first released a supplement about Henchfolk & Hirelings back in the good old days of 2011 and I was delighted we could readdress the subject this month. I hope you can find a place in your characters' adventuring party for at least one of the NPCs in this week's 20 Things release.

What Game or Edition do You Primarily Play?

This is one of the rare weeks in which we have no new release. Thus, I thought it was the perfect time for our annual "What game or edition do you primarily play?" poll.

Last year, unsurprisingly, 5e was the easy winner, but I was (pleasantly) surprised by OSR's popularity. I wouldn't have published an OSR version of The Lonely Coast if I hadn't known how many of you play it!

Thus, the results of this poll will inform my decisions about some of our major releases this yea...

The Ruin of Bleak Hill

This week, we’ve got the first Dungeon Backdrop of 2022, and a linked mini-eventure! Travel to Dunstone—Town on the Borderlands—and perhaps head across the Selka into the wilds of the Mottled Spire. This Dungeon Backdrop is the first in a new series set in and around Dunstone which we'll be supporting with mini-eventures. The Storyline document isn't ready yet—but look for it soon (along with the next Dungeon Backdrop instalment).

Unfortunately, due to scheduling commitments, we...

A Herd of Monstrous Lairs

This week, I have a herd of Monstrous Lairs for you. Not only do we revisit Monstrous Lair #11: Dark Creeper Village but we also dare a white dragon’s lair as well as a remorhaz’s lair. Send your characters to a different dungeon today! They’ll thank you for it!

By the time you get this, you should have a message from me containing the special secret download codes for this week's book and this week's Monstrous Lair remaster. (Monstrous Lair ...

Over the Hills (And Far Away)

Patreon Weekly Post

This week sees the exciting return of an old line. With the Dungeon Dressing line all but spent (and now work begins on the gigantic compilation book), it seemed a perfect time to remaster the Wilderness Dressing line.

We last published such books back in the dim and distant past of 2014. A lot has happened since then, and I wanted to bring the books back to help not only new Pathfinder GMs but 5e and OSR ones as well to add fun and flavour to their overland ...

What Do You Want From Raging Swan Press in 2022?

On Sunday, I asked subscribers to the Sunday Supplement what they wanted from Raging Swan Press in 2022. I've had some cracking feedback and suggestions already, and the time is now ripe to ask for your opinion.

I'm after ideas for new books and supplements. I'm also after ideas for how to make our current offering better.

Merchants and Wights

(But probably not in the same encounter…)

At Global HQ it's still 2021, but here’s the first new (and free to you) books of 2022! I always loved (for some unknowable reason) the merchant and bandit listings in the original Rogue’s Gallery. I don’t know why. In any event, I had that book in my mind when writing this month’s 20 Things.

(In other news, I am old.)

As 2021 comes to an end, I wanted to say a final thank you for your support over this tumul...

More Lairs for Your Monsters

I am very much enjoying the new instalments in the Monstrous Lair line. I continue to be amazed how many different lairs we missed last time when we were planning the release schedule. I remain, also, somewhat embarrassed by our glaring oversights. This week, we have two classic adventure locales for you—goblin and orc caves. Break out Keep on the Borderlands over the festive break and use the tables to add depth and flavour to a certain set of chaotic caverns.

Can Raging Swan Press Help Your Friend This Christmas?

It’s been a hard year for a lot of us. It seems there is pressure and woe everywhere at the moment. This sucks.

With that in mind, I’d love to send PDF presents to people who could do with a spot of festive cheer and a pick-me-up. As I've said before Raging Swan Press isn't an emergency service, but that doesn't mean we can't try to help. We have a collection on our sto...

Beware the Wanderers

Wandering monsters seem to have fallen out of fashion in recent editions of my favourite game. In the good old days, every dungeon—and sometimes dungeon level—had a table to roll on for wandering monsters. I love the unpredictability adding wandering monsters into your game provides. Wandering monsters also add an extra level of realism to our games. This can only be a good thing.

Dastardly Doings on the Ratings Front

Over the last three months, Raging Swan Press has got more one- and two-star ratings at DriveThruRPG than we've had in the last 11 years. And they are all from a single (anonymous) customer.

I am fine with people not liking our books. We are a tiny company producing books in a niche market. The majority of the planet's population wouldn't like our books.

However, I do not understand why someone would buy our books week in and week out (often on the day of release) only to rate the...

Into Languard

This week, we have two releases for you! We have December’s standalone mini-eventure and we have a compilation in print and PDF of all twelve of the year’s instalments. This year, the instalments are different as most deal with the general sights and sounds the characters see as they wander Languard by day or by night. (Last year, the mini-eventures dealt with specific locations such as the Orc’s Head.) I hope they become a useful tool in your GM’s toolkit, even if you don't run adven...

Into the Lunatic Asylum

Rikh Hart has tackled a subject near and dear to my heart, this week. Behold 20 Things #68: Lunatic Asylum. (You get this book free as a thank you for your fantastic support). Asylums are epic places to set a horror or investigative adventure, and I'm delighted Rikh has provided the tools for us to easily add depth and flavour to such a locale. After all, if you are going to set an adventure in such a place it makes sense to make it as distinct and memorable as possible!

Getting Some Healing

Often after an adventure, the characters need a spot of healing or other curative magics. It's tempting to just hand wave this process, but if you don't want to Simon Butler's Fane of Good provides loads of great details to add to the temples, churches and chapels in your campaign.

I have very much enjoyed our Dungeon Backdrops and have used some in my own campaign. I've also enjoyed the Storyline line concept--three Dungeon Backdrops linked together by a common thread which is loose enough for you to c...
