so, this is the third to last scene... carmilla's wrap-up, which i feel is the weakest. she's just a very static character! she doesn't want to change. it's like my english teacher's taught me... put your worst argument before the final act. <:)

FaD strip: kernel of truth

so, for this strip, i was actually planning on this being 1/3 of a sequence, where 2 other scenarios similar to the popcorn incident (doing something stupid -> having it solved logically very readily and effortlessly) took place, followed by a humorous conversation in the third sequence about the pattern.
the popcorn sequence ended up being like 8000 pixels tall, so i'm just not doing the other 2. it was challenging to show specific movements, but a nice challenge. sometimes it's nicer ...

EDIT: no extra panels i guess, i'm getting hit with a wicked headache today.

this page is a little longer than usual to avoid an awkward cut... i will have to jostle the panels a lot to center them once the page is fully colored and flattened.

rough one to comment on, because i feel like a lot of comments are simply spoilers at this point. i don't exactly try to aim for shocking endings anymore or keep people guessing, but i suppose it feels like the principle of not spoiling it. ...

FaD strip: unbecoming

this strip is from august 2019, never really got finished though. what was interesting to me about it is that it was written entirely in script format, which i don't usually do for FaD strips, instead relying on the in-the-moment motivation to complete them.
most of the incomplete strips i was looking at i realized i didn't remember exactly how they went anymore due to the lack of script, but this one... well, i didn't need to remember anything about it.

the next part of the scene will struggle to stand on its own as strongly as it would have with the scene about carmilla self-harming removed earlier, because it made the ability to still harm yourself within the facility most obvious.
it won't fall apart, though, because there were other indicators, and there will be a little wrap-up with sugar's arc. at this point i've learned to over-build because things will need to be removed and added on the fly.

tried to put a little more thought into this page's shot choices -- the first set of panels would be far away from kim to put emotional distance between the viewer and her.
the dialogue introducing the evaluation would become larger in text size over three bubbles, and then the camera would zoom in.
the camera would become uncomfortable and closed-in -- the space between the door and the carpet to introduce the evaluation room one last time, an emphasis on kim that would slowly zoom out...

this page was so irritating... way too long, but just short enough to not be able to slice in half. i've been shading this for 11 hours straight now, so my commentary is going to be sparse.

in this scene, i was planning on carmilla getting a little more... subtly antagonistic or malicious once the toes of her delusion were stepped on. this could have been implying that she was younger than lupe, or calling the blood drinking self-harm.

okay, here is the next page. this scene definitely feels a little superfluous, but at least works for more believable pacing. i felt like people would enjoy frankie if they've been reading the comics for years, and the next "scene" is slated to happen within the same time frame, ie. kim finishes the conversation with frankie, walks into the day room and sits down, and this is the next scene.
