FINALLY, got these done!
I think I handled the balance of detail a lot better than in my first attempt :P
OKAY, last week didn't go so well. I started drawing ocean stuff, realized I needed more practice drawing ocean stuff, and basically didn't do anything else for the rest of the week :P
SO, this week, I'm gonna give ocean stuff another try, now that I've practiced a bit more.
Also, I just might start making some comics. I'm thinking I'll start SUPER simple: Draw a character, write something they'd say. Then over time, little by little, I'd add to the complexity, with additional chara...
OKAY, I think I have a better idea of how to do ocean environments now. I tried to match the level of detail in my other environments, to help the scene feel full without having to worry about tons and tons of objects/details.

Sorry for the delay on stuff this week!
Yesterday, instead of drawing, I went and got a bunch of things done that I've been putting off for a while, which will REALLY help me stay focused.

Now, it looks like I'm gonna be working on ocean-themed stuff this week, so I'll at least collect the reference I need for it today!
Sorry guys! Last week, things kinda fell apart toward the end, and I didn't post all the types of drawings I meant to.
So today, I'm gonna try to draw at least two more swamp characters, and 3-4 swamp enemies.
Once those are done, I'll begin work on drawings for a new environment! Either ocean or jungle, which I am currently running a poll on Twitter to decide:

Just in case I don't finish a few more, here's at least one character concept.
I took the snapping turtle from one of my original animal sets, and improved his design.
I imagine him as a territorial land owner, kinda like Fuzzy Lumpkins from The Powerpuff Girls, but smarter and more intimidating.
Got kind of a late start on these today, but they're done now!
I made sure to include a few actual buildings/houses this time!

Let me detail my process a little bit:
1. Gather reference images, photos of real swamps, as well as illustrations, concept art, and screenshots from video games involving swamps.
2. Go through what I've collected, and pick out some of my favorites, which I feel best match the "vibe" of my series. Pay attention to the different swamp features in each.

SO, scenarios are gonna be a bit trickier for me, since they involve a little more thinking and planning regarding what happens in the illustration/comic. I made some progress on the Forest scenario yesterday, but not a ton. I'm wondering if I might make the drawings for these scenarios super quick and simple, just so I'm not intimidated by the drawing part, and I can focus on the scenario part, since that's the part I need to get used to doing more of.

I was hoping to draw six characters, but today's been a pretty busy day, not as much time for drawing, so I'll just post the three characters I did make.
A shopaholic squirrel, a door-to-door salesman woodpecker, and a security owl :)
It was actually easier to think of characters than I thought it would be!
I had some extra energy today, so I went and drew a bunch of industrial props, since they would be pretty common in a series about a team of maintenance animals :)

Another successful day!
Here are a bunch of the man-made (or in this case, animal-made) objects I imagine being in the forest.
It has begun!
Here's my plan. At the beginning of each week, I will select a theme.
After selecting my theme, each weekday will be dedicated to a different kind of drawing for that theme:
Monday - environment concepts
Tuesday - infrastructure concepts (buildings, roads, signs, decor, etc.)
Wednesday - character concepts
Thursday - enemy/character concepts
Friday - interactions (main characters doing things in the environment)
This week, the theme is "Forest", so here ...
I'm totally finished with the pitch bible projects I mentioned before!
So now, I REALLY wanna start building on Project Slick.
I did some practice doodling in my sketchbook yesterday. Three pages of doodles, not bad!
The plan is to start "doodling with a purpose", and make things specifically related to Project Slick, meant to add new information to what I've already established. Environments, characters, character interactions, etc.
ALMOST done with the pitch bible project I mentioned before. I promise, I'm getting back to Project Slick ASAP!

The main reason I haven't posted much lately is because I've been hired to help make illustrations for a series pitch bible! I can't share much more than that, since I agreed to keep things private between me and my client, but it's been going quite well! I Imagine I'll be finished with it in a little under a week!

I was planning to work on just one 3-Character Set commission per week like I did before, but I figure I can earn more money if I try to finish more than one per week, so I'll see if I can adjust my schedule to accommodate that.
