I couldn't decide which color, so I just upload both! (:

2023-02-03 23:18:53 +0000 UTC View PostEven though I would say that my anatomy-comprehension is pretty good, that doesn't mean I struggle with it from time to time. Especially when it comes to perspective and foreshortening! I want to elaborate a bit how I tackle the situation when it becomes difficult for me.
First of a little anatomy lesson. Please keep in mind that I make mistakes too and you should always refer to real-life references only! I like to use Arnold Schwarzenegger or...

This time I really wanted to train backgrounds!
I am aware, that Touya isn't really in focus here - which is sad, but on the other hand I guess it's a nice overall picture? You can gladly tell me what you think of it!
Ok so, there isn't really much going on here - But I really like how the wooden planks of the Todorokis' is doing me a favor here! It's really highlighting at what angle this "was taken". I usually do a simple perspective sketch in the beginning and the whole woodwork ...
As always, took way longer than expected. Maybe I need to reevaluate, how long things actually take...
This was really spontaneous. The theme/pose might look similar to other pieces I've done before, but if you look at them side by side, I'd say they're still pretty different.
The Sketch (2) was one of the cleanest I've ever done! I think I got a little carried away. Either way, this doesn't mean any time saving, I just got work done in this step, I'd d...
This was so much fun!
I love the pieces, where I brainstorm and add a lot of detail and "easter eggs".
As you can see, in the concept everything was much brighter and I used different colors overall. His hoodie changed to black because I realized, it would be way more fitting for contrasting the bright, colorful and happy decoration. I usually avoid all black clothing, because most of my art is pretty dark anyways and I have trouble shading them so that details still pop. But in this...

This is a perfect example why I try to include 2 files - this is so detail packed my god.
I like to use the "no scar/detail" one for filling in his scars or clothes, since I use the Paint Bucket Tool. This way it's much easier to fill it in, instead of going in and filling between his scars or even paint it all by hand.
Coloring usually takes me around 10min max.
As for his hair - you may noticed that in the "final" Linework, there are no separate strands of hair. That's ...
You learn best from mistakes!
Maybe you know this feeling:
You just finished a beautiful piece of art and want to upload it proudly to the internet for everyone to see - but not even a few hours later and you see major mistakes that you didn't notice before! Instead of being sad and beaten down about it, try to analyze, acknowledge, remember and correct your mistakes from the past!
Caution! This might destroy a p...

This one was fast. Not much detail tbh.
When I started coloring, I realized that the orange/red warm hue wasn’t really contributing to the mood here. My initial thought was to give a “sad moment/expression” something “warm/beautiful” but let’s be honest… there isn’t much happiness with Touya. Instead, I gave him some “lively” eyes – something I didn’t do in the sketch on purpose. I really wanted the contrast of “sad and happy” So I changed the color *again*

This took way longer than it should have, but not necessarily it’s work-time, but the time it took to actually finish it. I usually finish things quick as soon as I start them. Because of that, I had so much time to think about it and see inconsistencies. You can take that as a good and a bad thing:
I had some problems when drawing his (upper) hand. While it was a bit trickier than usual, it was actually the pose by itself that made me reconsider. It’s incredibly stiff! I made my ...
Maybe you experienced my Inktober'22 on Instagram, but for those who missed it or just want to take a look - I put it together in a .pdf file for download!
It's a tutorial-like description how I use Clipstudio Paint, what tricks I came up and an entire step-by-step process with an actual example! Maybe it's helpful for some of you. Keep in mind that other programs might have similar function...
