An alternate version of "Long Gregg" that I got this far into finishing before I stopped and asked myself: "does this make sense?"

Not that Greatures isn't fantastical and odd in its own way, but it has its own rules too. That's the part that keeps it grounded to a point, something I adored when done in Adventure Time or the like. And I never really introduced the concept that "Gregg" is whichever moleworm wears the glasses in the strip.

Originally drawn in my sketchbook as the 3-panel joke, I took it to page and stretched it out a bit, but it didn't have the juice! So here's my work anyway as I spent an evening inking the thing and am still pretty happy with that part. No editing, no white-out, just the inks and some pencils. Never be afraid to throw out the shit that don't work for you.

"Like About Dogs"

Something quick I wanted to do from an idea sittin' around in my sketchbook. A surprising accident was keeping the original scan (hi-res phone photo) while cleaning up the lines and coloring it. Then let the colors lay over the untouched scan and getting a cool crunchy look from the paper stock (literally scrap paper). Always on the lookout for the happy digital accident as companies like adobe continue to iron out the messy fun of creativity.

This is what motivates Cigarette every waking moment. It's rarely present in the deep deep lore of Greatures, but know this is her ultimate mission in life. Her every decision gets her one step closer to becoming a version of this NPC that invades you in the swamp level of Dark Souls the video game.

What a wild road its been to land this plane! But I'm happy with it! And I'm also tired of it, so Greatures is gonna take a small break and catch its breath. In the meantime, I got this other book I'm working on starring some famous Dog and that's due soonish. Always something to do around here.

Trying not to run out of personal steam, but we're landing the plane on this story soon. In fact, the Sunday Special will have to be a bit longer to do it proper. So I'm just making the runway with these last couple strips before #140.

I sometimes feel I can get carried away with something like this in my comics, too much story and less chuckles and goofs. But it's important to me to be emotionally consistent with these characters. And I just don't want to rush it. But I gotta remember...
