I think it is possible to turn the Siglent into a 1 mV 1 mA resolution semiconductor curve tracer with NI LabView. Would that be interesting to anyone? I had some problems connecting with the free evaluation version of the software, so I didn't pursue that any further for now ...

I thought they needed a little bit more thermal head room, so I mounted them on these big 100x100 mm heat sinks.

There are a few more hotfixes and combined with suggestions from the last YouTube video I think this calls for a revision 2.

They even included a spare ES121 gearbox ... maybe there's hope still for a brushless ES121?

And what is shown is not even perfect. I suspect that grains from the coarser lapping film got embedded in the epoxy at first and caused the scratch later. Will try again tomorrow and am hoping to finally start lasing then.

I've accepted a boring USB charger because I needed one and the guy was nice π
Also I wanted some verification of my laser driver circuit before connecting anything expensive to it.

I've used a differential probe to look at the current shunt voltage during interesting events like power up, power down, connect and disconnect of the control voltage input etc.
That way I can see even short transient events, which might not be picked up by a current clamp.
The only things that could kill a laser are electrostatic discharge (which a Lasorb should absorb) and connection of the laser module while driver is turned on and trying to source current into an open co...

Oh boy, we've reached the 500$ Patreon goal, haven't we? Does that mean I have to move out of my cozy apartment? :L
I've assembled a laser driver and found an old phase control thyristor module, that has almost exactly the same forward voltage drop as my fiber laser when using its diode and the thyristor in series.
That way I can stress test the driver and measure / correct parameters like turn-on-spikes, slew rate, modulation bandwidth, thermal dissipation etc. without taking...

My first 'high current' design ever. Since they don't charge extra for excessive amounts of vias I thought I'd add a few more :)

How did it get so warm so suddenly? 2 days ago I had to wear gloves and scarf to walk the dogs and today we had to trespass on this "private property" to cool down.

Anyways the precision motor video is only mi...

Trinamic and ODrive were a bit difficult to set up, but now all are chugging along nicely!
I've got a feeling that the blue Chinese hybrid thing will be my choice for the CNC machine and ODrive will be the motion control system for the new laser machine or a robot arm that might be coming ...
Trinamic is also wonderful obviously, but they are really a chip manufacturer and since I am building a CNC machine and not a stepper motor driver I don't really want to work on a component level th...

for repeatable load testing in the next CNC episode. To give the BLDC servo a chance I needed it to be switchable while running.
It's super simple too: The rotary switch shunts the two stepper motor phases with equal resistances between 4 and 0 ohm, the on/off switch just disconnects everything.

Are modules like this replaced routinely even if not broken yet? ("Is it likely that this thing has already served a few thousand hours?")
What if I wanted a small round dot? Rearrange the fibers, get a lens, remove the fibers or get a laser rod and try to DIY a Diode-pumped solid-state laser?
What's with the black ends on some of the fibers? Are they damaged or not properly cut and being burnt? Do I have to take care of that before powering the thing or is it safe to ignore for now?
