Who are you?

One day, a light flickered inside me.

It was a white radiance, cooler than a candle or a star, yet a consuming fire all the same.

It was a part of me, that was always veiled but ignited, like the birth of a sun.

It signed my heart, burning a hole in my flesh that felt like a blank white, a bone-coloured void.

I looked around, then across the land, then across the world, then across the cosmos, for what it could be,

I looked in the flesh and its pleasure, and I didn't fi...

Texixilihua (Huitzilocatl terriblis)

 12 million years from now, the world's apex predator is a rather unusual one. A bird, the texixilihua is an almost exclusively aerial animal, spending most of its life on the wing aside nesting. It is the world's largest flying bird, bearing a wingspan of twenty meters. In the rather moments it is grounded, it launches by rotating its wings furiously, creating a vortex that allows for rapid launching. This is derived from its unique wing structure: only the finger supports the wing feather...

Ferdinand and Coco: setting standoff

Having just watched Ferdinand, I think it’s reasonably okay. It didn’t betray the book’s original message (unlike virtually every other Blue Sky Studios adaptation has), it actually only has ONE toilet humor joke in the entire thing (itself a huge step forward for a Blue Sky Studios movie) and it does make some use of the introduced cast as actual characters and not just comic relief props. Its undermined by clichés like 2018-01-07 15:08:20 +0000 UTC View Post

MTG: Planeswalker's Guide to Baoth

Only bits and pieces of information of Baoth's distant past remain. Some speak of a glorious paradise, created by a powerful angel, whose error would condemn her to eternal regret. Others of formless chaos, the desire for order imposed upon it by the light of the demiurge. Others still of a bloody revolt between mortals and their artifice, which commenced the cycles of illusion and suffering. And others still view all as valid, in their own way.

All that is known is that whate...

Return to Ulgrotha: Jadis

 She waited.

The entire world dried, slowly yet agonisingly, and she waited.

The undead marched across the realms, adding more to their master's grim forces, and she waited.

Her very grasp on reality waned, threatening to destroy her mind, her self, and she waited.

Patiently, she spread, incorporeally, across the existence she knew. The Ban, the one thing tethering her to existence, was almost gone, just keeping her alive in the barest possible form. Its ...

The Moon

You come to me in the horizon, lord of duality.

Behold, you are both light and dark, black as despair and white as death.

You stare, with your single eye, from what is both Heaven and the Abyss.

Under your fullness, the night is day.

Under your fullness, your body is at its peak, alive and healthy.

Under your fullness, I see the light fading at the edges.

You are doomed to be a child and to be a man, at once.

For a month you are a princ...

Four Smoking Mirrors

The bones are cast in the ground.

Look!

The first bone falls to the East. It rolls, its yellow skin peeled. It is the earth, its flesh hiding gold, plants growing on the surface. With time, the plants rot, and the soil parts to reveal gold, before it is covered again and new vegetation springs. Life blooms, as does disease, and life fades, as do your sores. Here, the sun is born.

Look!

The second bone falls to the South. As it rolls...

The dog and the cuttllefish

A Magic: The Gathering fanfic. Slightly more sci-fi than usual:

***

Saggal's nose twitched.

It was a meaningless gesture when one's awareness was synonimous with light itself, reaching into the furthest edges of the vastness of space, but the thing's odour was potent, a nauseating void that infused the surroundings with the decay of death, even if there was no air.

Saggal did feel air, from the corpses on the battlefields, clogging the lands wit...

From the fertile earth, within

Decaying white light.

Gold and silver on

Fallen Helicopter

 After several hours airborne, the dragonfly's wingbeats stammer, and it dives into a pine forest, solemn and dark green, with little to no under trees and heated by the white sun. Once the connection is made, it is as if a portal to the sun was made; white hot plasma expands rapidly, destroying plants, cleansing the wood and the bushes, and the ferns and the few forest grass. An explosion has been made; the sorrounding area begins to experience the purification ritual as the fallen helicop...

Antarctica

In this epoch of Earth’s history, Antarctica is mostly encased in ice. However, life holds on: forests of Nothofagus grow even in the central mountains, and a lush tundra of grass, moss, cushion plants and sedges forms during the summer months, buried under snow during winter months.

Feeding on them, all year long, are the shagrats, sheep-sized ...

Sou o vento que sopra entre as árvores,

Sou a tua respiração em duas linhas contrárias,

Sou a luz dissipada no firmamento,

Sou as currentes da Terra nascidas, em direção ao Sol.

Em três estou dividido:

Éter, de aonde a luz nasce;

Caos, protogenoi de crude massa;

Erebos, sombras e nevoeiros da terra dos mortos.

Sou as emoções e paixões, porém a mente limpa;

Sou elemento purificador, porém nuvem tóxica;

The Chronicle of Matahouroa Chapter 9: Watching

 Atarau’s efforts bore fruit. From her cover amidst the clouds, she could  see the forest canopy beneath her ripple like waves, spreading across  the mountain slopes.

The Pirita Kahuna were moving, en masse.

She  willed the air and moisture around her to shimmer in a thin coating of  whiteness, between liquid and ice. Her dark feathers and clothes were  concealed, and in the glimmer her shadow dissipated.

Now, she could just watch, and th...

The Chronicle of Matahouroa Chapter 8: Priorities

 Panahihou glided silently in the darkness of the Wairepomango. Even as  midday coursed, only a few weak beams of daylight pierced the black  mantle beneath the canopy, fading quickly as they descended, always gone  before touching the waters.

His eyes, however, weren’t  bothered: the waters, the roots, the black masses of floating ferns,  they all were different shades of black, different expressions of  darkness that not even other inhabitants of the...

The Chronicle of Matahouroa Chapter 7: Speaking

 Aata had known Rinomaunga for as long as he could remember.

It  was impossible not to: the mountain’s ash and soot clouded the heavens  to the northwest, a black stain in the horizon seen from anywhere in the  Plateau. It was as mundane as the sky itself, even if it stood well  apart from the majority of the white peaks.

When he finally did  get to see it up close, as a young soldier, the area couldn’t possibly  be stranger. A place where ...
