I thought introductions were supposed to go smoothly. XD

I ran a little behind on getting these up, but I like to post some sketch dumps from previous sections as I continue plowing through this project hehe. These aren't all of them by any means, but I've hand picked the sketches I felt happiest with. Even as a mashup, I like to see if the sketches themselves tell a story and reveal things about the characters. It's an interesting exercise for me. :P

So after the concept mockup and the 3D model getting commissioned, here's a near final result! This is a shot with characters removed. I posted the concept again so you can see how these things come to fruition. I think I'm happy with the result! :P

I stayed up way too late trying to finish this out hehe. The architecture is from early to mid 20th century inspirations, more of that 1950's traditional high school look. There's been some renovations as seen in the distance with the modern lighting, but the lobby holds its charming original aesthetic. It's not done of course, but I ran some test lighting, trying to capture that afternoon sun creeping in the school lobby. I added some sloppy reflections for more effect. :P
Enzo is just...

Teen girl squad? (inside joke for those that know... google it lol)

Even though it’s far from done, I did some sloppy test lighting of the scene with Enzo and Daphne walking through Ohmsdale. I haven't drawn a good shot of the area in probably 4-5 years. I also had to figure out how to paint the "illusion" of detail in the distance, which will be further refined in the final.
If there’s one thing I’m happy with, is I think I captured the feel of the afternoon sun with the lighting. We’ll see how it develops!

The next scene has been mapped out (5 pages specifically) which includes Enzo and Daphne. This is a fun one since it reveals a new location aka Enzo's workshop. In fact, the 3D model is nearly done, so expect another update soon!
In the meantime, this is a page before they get there walking through Ohmsdale. I wanted to get a better shot of their location compared to the website since I believe there is a lot to show. Ohmsdale is a sprawl, some areas as dense towns with others as scatte...

As the snowpocalypse is happening here in the midwest, I felt I should give my patrons an update. I just finished a section with Arlo and Lily, and have now started a new scene with Enzo and Daphne again (exciting scene I think!).
This shot is a fully finished frame (mostly) without text bubbles. As a patron supporter you get to see things like this compared to the public version. I'll try to include more in the future. I had some challenges in rendering and lighting this time around, a...

This is the next concept in development for the comic, as I have a scene coming up that requires a new location! I will be hiring my friend that 3D modeled the science classroom and house to also make this.
I cranked this out in about 90 minutes, making the blueprint for him since there were snags during the house production due to improper direction. By making everything clear with a proper floor plan, 3D development should go much smoother.
There are things omitted and others th...

Ok maybe I'm being a bit hyperbolic, but things have changed a lot since Volume 1's production. This screenshot is 1/3rd of a single page, and if it's not obvious... a lot more time and energy are being put into them (aka developing more skill). On one hand, this is great for readers. On the other, this puts pressure on the page buffer I have in place. Some comic sections may not be as demanding, but "outdoor city street" scenes are a giant middle finger to the artist hehe.
I'm not tryi...

I know that the last couple years have been tough on many, including myself, but I hope you all have a hopeful and prosperous uh... "better" year in 2022! I wanted to share some sketches from the last set of pages I had recently finished up. There's a lot of quirky rivalry and dynamics happening here, but all with some good humor.
Anyway, same ol' story for the new year. Chugging and trying to keep that buffer number up! Thanks again for all your support and going into the new year!

Lily gets her first appearance since volume 1! I Did a few changes with her, mainly with the hair and spot on her tail, but most remains intact since her 2020 drawing. I'm trying to push the "punk" angle with her quite a bit. The page above is a 1st pass (super rough) just to get a feel for it. This scene will probably be around 5 pages, but we get to see how time on the road has really changed Lily (mostly good). She would be an excellent New Yorker, as she says exactly how it is hehe.

It's been a LONG time since I sketched Lily. In fact, I only sketched her "adult" version ONCE for the website last year in 2020. Consider these the first peeks at her comic version. Life on the road with her dad as a smuggler will harden anyone. The greaseball clientele has taught her incredible street smarts.
Anyway, with her being Arlo's age, I wanted to go for a punk look, even some "cyberpunk" tones (though not THAT far). She can be nice, but she absolutely is NOT lady like. She's ...

Here's a page with some finished line art and base color. I rarely release full pages by this stage, but aw heck I'm feeling generous lol (I never want to spoil anything too much :P).
This section is coming together nicely, but there's a lot of detail work slowing me down (as usual). I like this scene mainly because I get to show some of the candid conversations between Archer and Arlo. Their relationship is a big focus in Volume 2.
Also, for anyone that celebrates Thanksgiving, I...
