Quick Tip: Produce the FEELING

Programming can be tough. We work to a grid, it snaps, its easy, we move on.

One thing i see all of us struggle with is programming convincing flows. Its so insanely important to be in control and to really listen to whats happening inside the movement of the elements in our songs and to actively move and program these elements so that they FEEL right.

Remember to feeeeeeelllllllll it

Quick Tip - Stay In Key

Handy little ableton tool to stay in key. It'll help some of you guys a ton! But we can all benefit from it from a frictionless creation perspective.

Side note—don't make it a crutch. Learn basic music theory so you know WHY this feature works. But use it as a tool to create less friction. Knowing the difference between a major and minor key is EASY work, just watch one youtube video and youll get the trick.

Boredom & Creativity

Just watched a great little video on the effect of what technology and over stimulation is doing to our brains in regards to creativity and hijacking our freedom to think deeply.

I think about this a lot.

I often have reminders set that are labeled 'think for 10 mins' or '10 min free thinking time'. And its literally for just that.—free time to let my mind wander. We DO NOT HAVE A SINGLE SECOND IN THE DAY FOR OUR MINDS TO HAVE A BREAK...!!!! we just dont any more. Not with out p...

How To: Make A Snare From Scratch

Hey hey!

Today we're making snares out of serum!

Snares from scratch have always been a bit of a weird one for me. I've resisted them for years and years, until recently i found myself wanting to WANT to know how to synthesise them. So this is my own little technique.

I dont believe this is 10000% necessary for producers to know how to do. But i've found it liberating (after 12+ years of producing) to be able to make my own (good and useable) kicks, and now my own snares....

Q&A MAY 2025

Answering your Q's!!

Some really solid questions this time around — here’s the main takeaways:

Genres, Branding & Branching Out

There were a few questions around how to approach genre when you’re starting out. My take is: early on, it’s fine to experiment and try a bunch of styles. That’s how I started. But if you’re trying to build a recognisable project or brand, it really helps to lock in something more defined for a bit. Doesn’t mean yo...

For the Love of the Process

Lately, I've been reflecting on a concept that feels especially relevant today—instant gratification. It’s a force that seems to be shaping how we approach our goals, our creativity, and even our sense of fulfilment.

It’s easy to look at someone who appears to have achieved overnight success and feel like you’re falling behind, like maybe you’re missing some secret shortcut. But the reality is, there are no shortcuts. I’ve been at this for over a decade, and I can tell you t...

New Setup, New Vibes, and Twitch Streams Incoming!

Hey friends 👋

Just a quick check-in and a bit of a test run with the new setup — I’ve been putting a lot of effort into making this space feel inspiring and creatively dialed in, and I’m stoked on how it’s turned out. It’s the first time in my career that I’ve had a fully dedicated room to build exactly how I want, and it’s already made a massive difference in how I feel when creating and working here.

This video is a bit of a ramble, but I also wanted to share so...

My Current Thoughts on Daily Routines

Hey legends

Today I wanted to share some thoughts on my daily routine — specifically how it’s always evolving and why I’ve been shifting away from the idea of a “perfect” morning routine.

🌀 Routines Are Always Changing

One of the biggest takeaways for me lately is that my routine is constantly adapting — depending on how I feel, how creative I’m feeling, how much I’m touring, and just where my head’s at....

Why Social Media Is Essential for Artists in 2025

Hey all!!

In this video, I talk about how my mindset around social media has shifted over the years, and why I think it’s become essential for artists right now. I used to resist it, especially during the early TikTok wave, but I’ve come to understand how powerful it can be for visibility, growth, and connection. If you’re an artist trying to build a fanbase in 2025, this is something you really don’t want to ignore.

1. Social media is where the...

My face learning about all the new features on serum 2

Bro outdid himself. My brain is fried just inputting all the new features on this thing. There are SO MANY POSSIBILTIES NOW.

My approach is going to be to watch a couple of full run downs on all the new bits, watch all the little reels and video tips producers post, just to get familiar with it initially, and then pick on feature and focus on it for a week or so. Maybe longer. I don’t want to overwhelm myself so I think picking one thing and really understanding it before moving on i...

Quick Tip - Chord Voicing's

Important little tip regarding how you put your chords together

Key Points on Chord Voicing's & Stacking:

Chord voicings matter – Proper placement of notes within a chord stack is crucial for creating a strong foundation.

Less is more – Using only 2–3 notes at a time in a chord stack can create a more emotive and impactful sound compared to stacking 7+ voices.

How to Approach an Opening Set as a DJ

Opening for a headliner can be a daunting moment, especially for the first time. I wanted to share some tips focused around attitude rather than specific or technical skills as this is a topic i get asked advice for from you guys pretty often!

1. Respect the Headliner’s Set

  • Don’t play the headliner’s music. DO NOT play any music by the headliner. No pre drops no vocals, no nothing. And it’s always good practise to check if t...

Patreon Feedback Sesh Vol. 3

Hey everyone! I’ve got a new instalment from the ‘Feedback Tier’ for you. Michael Jan was kind enough to let me share the feedback video I made for him with the group.

Balance As An Artist...

Even after all these years as an artist, I still find it difficult to achieve balance. As creatives, we experience constant ebb and flow. We are our own bosses, sometimes with no one to answer to, which means we are responsible for setting our own goals and priorities. This autonomy can be both a gift and a curse, as it easily backfires depending on our level of motivation, organisation—or lack thereof.

I often find myself contemplating how our work differs from that of someone in a c...

HOW TO MAKE KICKS & SNARES

Hey all!

Wanted to make a quick video on how i currently make kicks and snares.

(Sorry about the video production quality this was meant to be a "quick tip" but ended up being a bit longer haha)

Its a bit of an updated process to what i've previously shown on the channel, one thats much more straightforward and mitigates the need to replace each and every audio sample which i have tediously done for years and years haha .
