There was a bit of confusion while working on Gustav—some illustrations show him with a very pale, almost vampire-like skin tone. But since there are also versions with a more natural complexion, I ended up going with a more typical tone!

I always find it challenging to capture the essence of a character when trying to draw a well-known character that was originally designed in a simplified or cartoonish style. Since my own art style leans more toward realism, I can’t replicate the original look exactly, so I end up reinterpreting the character in my own way. But then I start to worry whether I’m really expressing what fans love most about the character. 😂
