DTK 45

I finished the Houndsmaster set without the emergence of another memory. I felt conflicted. In a way, I was happy that I had managed to finish it. But I also craved more; I wanted to see inside of the strange world of those Seamstresses. I wondered just how far into the distant past those memories really were. I felt them like hundreds of threads pulling away from me.

Were there others out there like me?

There must have been. More than just one or two, too; t...

Sandy had bags under her eyes as she led me around to her workshop. It was still morning, before lunch, when she pushed the door open and it swung inside.

The monster was mostly disassembled and already loaded onto two carts in the door. At least, the parts that could be salvaged were loaded. There was a giant mud spot in front of Sandy’s bed where Cinnamon had dragged in the dirt. He was currently creating a new giant dirt spot on the other side of the room, chewing apart ...

Valjean left with Sandy to take apart the monster they brought with them. I hadn’t seen it when we circled around the wagons.

Without mending, I couldn’t help my mom repair Valjean’s spare outfit. I wasn’t emotionally ready to continue working on the Houndsmaster set yet… and thinking about it was still giving me a headache. I was starting to worry that I broke the pattern somehow and that the pain would be permanent.

So instead, I just watched my m...

“We’re diving it.” Sandy said, before I could even ask.

I was quiet. I didn’t say anything.

The waves lapped up the beach with a crash of seafoam before receding. Sandy was walking forward. I wasn’t sure if she was conscious of it. The expression on her face was a mix of manic aggression and fear, like she was staring down a monster.

But there were no monsters. Just us and the beach. Just ...

I came back to myself breathing hard, fighting for air as if I had been drowning a second earlier. Sweat beaded on my back.

“What the hell was that?” I said aloud, despite the fact that I was alone. I looked over to the door to my house. For a second, I thought about asking my mom. Then the memory of a conversation floated to the surface.

“…the story ends with him ...

The break into act 3 is fast approaching........

***

Terry labored over the table, carefully measuring the hot-blood one of the lizards. She was wearing goggles and gloves.

I was working in her room as a change of scenery. Her window was open, and the whole room smelled like rain and wet earth. I was stitching together a Houndsmaster outfit out of what remained of the boss. I knew I was going to run out of material before the job was done; I was going to finish ...

we're about to break into act 3

We stood outside the entrance to the last dungeon. The wind was still strong at night. Now it was sprinkling rain down on us. I rubbed my arms as I stood outside.

My mana was full, but I felt like my stomach would explode.

“Ready?” I asked.

Sandy was pensive this time, seemingly unwilling to enter the dungeon.

“No.” She replied.

“What’s up?” I a...

Chapter 38.1

Narrow walk ways of packed earth and loose stone defined the trails around the mountainous dungeon. We moved slowly to keep our footing, climbing higher to try to find a direction that would lead us to the dungeon’s monsters.

The icy dungeon was mostly flat and the enemies within it glowed, making them practically beacons at night. Here, the dungeons environment was obscured by the uneven terrain.

“I hope we’re not going to have to climb a different mou...

“It’s a [Windblade!]” Gerald said unhelpfully. “You just… swing it.”

He made a wooshing noise and gestured with his hands at the remains of the table.

“And it takes a mana point?”

“Huh? Oh yeah. You have plenty, right?” Gerald turned towards Sandy. The wind picked up and blew hair out of his face. He had to push it out of the way; the water from the steam earlier made it cling to him.

“I have NINE ...

I met Sandy in the morning after breakfast. Then we headed to meet Gerald.

His forge was running. We hadn’t seen him in a couple days — I know he mentioned off hand that his skill made him obsessive until he finished working on something. I think he had under sold what exactly that meant.

The forge that his family owned had no walls, letting the heat of the forge out. It had a roof to prevent rain, but today was windy, and it was blowing through the area ...

Pattern Ideas

Hello my loving army, would you like to suggest ideas for patterns for clothing sets?

I love obscure ones that end up being useful. Like a soapmaker that gets the ability to rend fat as if acidified would be cool. Or a coal mining outfit who can see in the dark. It should give 2 types of stats or if it gives 4 different stats it should reduce the two it doesnt give. So like if it gives +5 to four things it should give -5 to two things.

Gwen is also like 4 levels behind where I w...

[Warddrobe is level X]

[X] Seamstress Inventory Skill. Grants users access to a multiple outfit storage inventory. One set per level. Users gain 10% of stats from all stored sets and any active skills.

“What?” I asked aloud.

“Hm?” Sandy asked, turning over her shoulder.

But I was too busy to reply. My heart was racing with excitement as I pulled open my System, mentally pulling at my [Warddrobe] skill.

Sandy cursed, fumbling to remove the gaunlets covering her arms. She was steaming — literally. Steam wafted off her under the armor. Her skin was red as if it had been burned.

“You alright?” I asked, grabbing her arms and turning them over.

“Yeah. Damn. Not a good match up for a butcher.” Sandy said.

The damage to her was only skin deep, probably entirely thanks to Health points acting as a shield between us and the monsters.

“Gwen!” Terry said.

I stepped from the hallway into the room reserved from her workshop. I hadn’t visited in a few days.

And things here were different.

The tables that had been scattered around the room before and decorated with bottles were gathered in the center on a workstation. Terry had indeed dried spider blood as pigment. But there was also a bottle of concentrated green sitting in the center of the desk; there couldn’t have b...

There was an explosion as Sandy’s skill met the bear’s attack. At first it was a noise like thunder as the skill magically gathered all of the bear’s attacking force. Then her [Parry] redirected it and the sound turned to tearing flesh and creaking bone.

Blood splattered her as the monster’s chest caved in, muscle parting as easily as anything else. The bear staggered backwards.

And stayed standing.

AN: mislabeled chapter title

I stood next to Sandy above the boss arena on the third floor of the dungeon. She only had six mana left; she used four earlier. One to turn invisible and drag the Stormcaller set out of town; three to test her parry skill.

We left Gerald behind. He was still trying to convince his parents he wasn’t lying and that he was a noble; that didn’t mean he had to come with us to clear the dungeon every night. As strong as he was, he was still more of a l...

I groaned.

We ate breakfast in the morning without mom. I didn’t find her in her room either.

Mari and Terry gossiped about the news in the town, about who knew Sandy was clearing the dungeon and who they thought didn’t. They had restrained themselves before.

We walked with mom to the town meeting room — a luxurious use of the limited space in our buildings. Maritha stayed behind at the house after helping clean the workshop.

Since my mom agreed to help, Sandy was moving most of our finished supplies to her workshop. The location was more convenient for me, and I wouldn’t have to avoid working around her. Not to mention the workshop was much, much bigger. We were going to have to repair more of the furniture to a usable state.

We rushed to the vine choked wall at the edge of the dungeon. The alternating day-night cycle of the dungeon meant it was dark on the next floor, but it was still bright enough to see by.

Moon light shimmered over the rivers, its reflecting dancing under a canopy of rainbow colored trees, leaves whipped about in a storm below.

There was a great, terrible cracking noise, and the glass-like wall that had separated us from the next floor split. Violent wind shov...
