WIP Chaos Ruins

It's all coming together B) I took some time tonight to experiment with the Warcy Scenery. Pictured here, still drying. I went back and forth a bit but this is the near final result. I might throw some blood stains at it and bit of debris on the rooftops, but it was cool moment seeing some muscle warriors amidst the eroding cells. Getting all of this painted is a big step so I'm going to get back to it and stay ahead of the crumbling earth.

A Little Preview

Heh, pun intended. This next week we'll be seeing a complete process video on the Iron Golems. For now, I have the tiniest warrior to share. Just don't call him the tiniest warrior to his face.

Have a great weekend!

Untamed Beasts, Complete Process

Unchaimed! That will make more sense after you watch the video. This week we're getting dirty and creating a recipe. Something fast, effective, and most of all, stylish. Creating recipes is it's own art form and it's been a blast carrying this style through my Warcry collection.

Colors used:

From Monument: Black and Dark Camo Green (enter the code samson20 at checkout for a 5% discount). I enjoy the brushes and primer from this line but struggle with some of the paints.

Sigvald: The Mirror Shield

Saving the most fun part for last, it's the grand conclusion to our Sigvald series. The mirror shield, something I have never done before. I have some final thoughts in the end of the video and this being my first time, I've learned from it. I'm happy with the result but there is a lot I would do differently next time.

Have a great weekend!

A Slight Apology

Greetings, chromatic warriors!

Recently I made a video for the folks at Gigarobo as part of a new release and sale they're having. I received the model a little late, earlier this month, and hopefully you've seen the video. In order to keep my end of the deal I have to post the video on YouTube this weekend. Normally I post my videos up after they've been on Patreon for four months.

I just wanted to let everyone know the scenario in case it seemed out of the norm, because it i...

Gigarobo: Complete Process

Awwyeah, this week we have the complete rundown on a project for the people at Gigarobo. This sculpt captures that gundam/anime robot look nicely and I was inspired to create a more stylish, animated paint job. I know it's a long video but for your viewing pleasure I've included some time stamps below.

As always feel free to ask questions and let me know what you think in the comments below. I had a small audio issue in this video where you may notice my voice sounds a little more boo...

Sigvald, The Face of Beauty

Ah yes, Magnificent! The pampered prince of perfection keeps his skin well cared for and enhanced with cutting edge Victorian makeup. This video is a bit longer but I didn't want to leave anything out. Painting faces is a popular topic so I took this opportunity to zoom in on the subject. You will notice some editing, I cut out small portions where I was cleaning my brush or attending to some other part of the process that didn't involve radical colorization of the figure at hand.

Morbid Tales: Untamed Beasts

Greetings warrior, I can see from the red stain on your cravat that you have traveled far and seen much battle. Or perhaps that is a bit of red sauce from the vendor across the market? Nothing is what it seems in this world of chaos!

I took some time earlier this week to hone in a recipe for the Untamed Beasts side of things. I wanted something fast, effective, and stylish. Easy enough...I did a little doing and undoing but came across a good combination late on Monday night. The pic...

Sigvald, Cloak of Splendor

Sigvald's gallant approach was always preceded by tell tale flapping on the wind. His soft but discomforting laugh and always the same whisper on his lips...Unchaiiiiined, he spoke.

This time around we're taking a look at the flowing capes of Sigvald and talkin' purple. I was after a more silken look with a higher level of sheen with these garments. Working with the color purple was run as well, I don't use it too often and have been craving to paint something pretty. Enjoy!

Morbid Tales: Warcry Journal Part 1

In the beginning, the world was formless, uncarved, and needing some assembly. An endless tide of carnage and seeking favor from the dice gods. A place where iron met bone, and plastic met glue. This is Warcry!

I helped a friend move his game shop a few months ago and saw a Warcry starter among the pillars of boxes, a rare find these days and having played a game of this a while back, decided now was great time to buy a big box of plastic. During quarantine I've been sorely lacking in ...

Sigvald, Part 2: Black Metal Armor

This time around we're taking a look at how I painted Sigvald's armor, the black portions as well as the gold trim. Achieving a non metallic gold and semi gloss dark armor. Enjoy!

I made small change to our usual format and added some music. It's been suggested before so please let me know what your opinion is on adding a music bed. Granted I am still looking for the right kind of music. I'd like something with a bit of a marching beat that isn't distracting or too moody. Germanic war ...

Sigvald, The Ugly Phase

Finally, I can start revealing some Sigvald tutorials. I've had him for a while now, painting behind the scenes. It's a great figure that offered some opportunities to try a few new things and capture some classical magic.

In this first video, I wanted to lay out my approach in a more realistic way. When I record for Patreon, I am focusing on a specific area. But when I paint for myself, I start the model off all at once, gradually bringing along the whole figure and making change...

Blackhall Stormhost Part 2: Sequitors

This time around we are taking a look at dazzling cloaks and glowing crystals. Adding to the series on my army we have all the details that make the Sequitors unique. If you haven't seen the previous videos in this series we have already covered the armor, base, and shield design, I will link those videos below.

These Sequitors also mark the completion of my army, huzzah! Now to collect another!

This video is a little on the long side but here are some time stamps to make your ...

Untamed Beasts Basing Theme

Unchained basing on the Untamed Beasts. Recently I picked up the Warcry starter set, I'm interested in the game, and this model was chosen for some one-on-one lessons. A double motivation, sounds good!

I took a moment to record the basing build. I've been giving a lot people feedback in the wake of the first Chainbreaker contest and it's given me some ideas for videos :) The video above has good timing in that sense. A nice short example of creating an interesting base without a lot o...

Chainbreaker, Closing Ceremony

The first Chainbreaker contest has come to a close. I am very impressed by the effort, enthusiasm, and kind sporting nature. Art competitions are always tricky to judge and I'm thankful for the help of Impending Duff, Eenie Minis, and Turkey Gerky, not only do they possess an eye for detail but they are also good at names. Everyone's entry is as important to them as yours is to you, which is why we decided to go with an open system, handing out multiple medals instead of the standard three pl...

An Exercise in Blending

Often times I find myself not diluting my paint, I will simply take a small amount and using a large moist brush, spread the paint until it creates a thin layer. This techniques is best used when combined with wetblending, the airbrush, or having a gradient established in some way. But here I present the technique on it own so that we may see every variation and sharpen our minds upon this single topic. Enjoy!

Blanchitsu Musketeer

All prepped up and ready for paint. This is a bit of a secret project but I'm sure my secrets are safe with you. I have another collaborative project coming up at the end of February. Covid providing I'll be able to get together with Scott, Jon, and Vince again for some gaming and painting. We're keeping this project secret like last time in order to let people have some fun guessing who's is who's. But I'm proud of my creation and enjoy giving my fellow Wizards a look under the table, er beh...

Death Elemental: Final Touches

In this video we're wrapping up the Death Elemental, working on the cowl, the eyes, tongue, and some final lighting touches. Better to wrap these all into one video instead of dragging things out. We have a world to paint!

I hope you all find some time to paint this weekend!

Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below :)

Death Elemental Part 3: Death Metal

I couldn't resist the death metal pun, after all in this video we're taking a look at painting the non metallic metal areas as well as that faintly glowing gem on his shoulder. Feel free to ask questions and log feedback :)

Death Elemental Part 2: Lost Souls

In this video we're diving in waist deep, see what I did there? The conjuring of souls that he is appearing from is a really cool feature of this model and it also gives us some interesting opportunities. I chose to go for an internal glow on this one, like fire but in a spectral blue.

Feel free to ask questions and leave feedback! Have a great weekend!

WIP Fields of Strife

Long ago, back when I was still streaming, I started slowly assembling a couple muscle warriors at the beginning of every show. This lasted almost right until the end, very gradually I built up a small crowd of Warcry figures intending to make a close packed battle scene, challenge myself a bit on a high model count in a relatively small space.

In the beginning, the field was flat.

Death Elemental Part 1: Deathflesh

Ending the year with a grim specter of death seems appropriate. Let's put 2020 to bed and wake up in 2021. In this video I'm starting a project from Creature Caster. It can be somewhat of a challenging model to approach but one mindful step at a time will get us what we're after, Deathflesh! Enjoy!

Blackhall Stormhost Part 1.5: The Shields

Guard yourself from the poison arrows of this world. In this edition I'm laying out how I create the design for my shields. A nice flat surface provides a good open area to lay an impactful design down and show your opponent you mean business. Enjoy!

Blackhall Stormhost Part 1: Liberators

Let's take a look at recipe building and the proper order of operation. In this video I'm laying out the process used to paint my Stormcast. I'll be adding more troop types to this series but let's start with the humble poster boy of Aos, the Liberator.

I'll be making a separate video on the shield as it's used on a few troop types and is it's own step, separate from the soldier.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and questions below! The more questions asked, the more we l...

Black Templar Part Two: Colorized

Now that we've established some volumes in black and white, let's add some color to enhance that work. Cold shadows, warm highlights, and just a touch of the powder.

This was a really fun way to approach a model, something different and a technique that will be helpful in the future.

Finished, Ghazghkull, The Great Beast

WAAAAGH! I used to hate when people would shout that at Games Day but typing it is fun. Here stands the great beast, Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. I'm a big fan of the Orks and that served as a double motivation on this project. Well, enthusiasm, it took a while to finish as it was a series and I was still experimenting with tutorial formats and pacing them out. But it was most of all fun and scratched a nostalgic itch, painting the freshest version of this long standing and classic character.&...
