Exercises in Feathering

Today we take a diversion and look at some brush technique, fellow Wizard. I find myself describing this a lot so I wanted to capture it on video as well as add a new step I've been approaching. Seeing is believing, enjoy!

WIP Bloody Barnabus

The foraging from recent past has given way to creating a swampy scene.

One of my goals for the next Adepticon is to enter every painting competition. I'm aware of four and thats enough for me. One of them is the P3 Grandmaster contest. I've pulled this pewter relic from my hall of potential and will be getting him started today.

Other competitions I'll be in: Golden Demon, Resin Beast, and the Worthy painting comp (the one MCP puts on). Stay tuned!

Paint the world,

I Did It Again!

Another trip to my local store, this time I was looking for the Tyranid Codex and found it. But during my last visit I had a peek at the Battletech shelves and found what became "Watch That Pig B.E.N." I thought I'd give the racks another look and the first thing my eyes focus on is this:

Yes, that is a stealth jet with legs. Jetman!

Base Foraging

Winter is coming and with that approach, it's time to gather roots and driftwood.

I have a spot in my city, there is a set of train tracks that runs along side the river and under a bridge. Lots of interesting things end up here.

I'm also taking in the natural sights, always a surprise to m...

Painting With Black and White

Orkorama Update!

Chugging right along, this is a lengthy project but I'm enjoying the slow burn and keeping it moving steadily. With large projects like this you can lose momentum, my solotion is to break it into pieces but it is still a time consuming project. The taller the mountain the sweeter the breeze they say.

The boss has been set aside for a future video, I'll get things right on the boyz so I ca...

Painting Angron For The Golden Demon Part 2: The Base

Angron is back this week! This time I'm sharing how I painted the base. As always this gives me ideas and I'm fantasizing about an army made of all casualties. Time will tell haha. I'm happy with where this is sitting, there are small tweaks to make but I'll have to wait until more of the model is painted and attached for that final balances. Enjoy!

Colors used:
From Vallejo, Deck Tan, German Uniform, Buff, Dark Prussian Blue, Ice Yellow, Hull Red, Flat Earth, German Camo Black Brow...

Combat fever!

OVer the last two days I managed to get a couple games of Combat Patrol in vs my brother's dark Eldar. I was running Tyranids. One win and one loss but the second loss was devastating. I had 5 models left after Brother John's 2nd turn and in return in had caused a massive 4 wounds to one of his vehicles.

Combat Patrol is fun but very unbalanced.  I see it more for the rock, paper, scissors that it is. Losing thay heavily was boring and I wasn't left with any deep thought on my stra...

Nova Open Recap!

I've returned from the Nova Open! It had been years since I was last at that event and it was under different ownership. This year was a great experience, I will be back. I recapped my time on Twitch last Monday and recorded it, opposed to a lengthy write up, this time at least. Enjoy!

My Tyranid Color Scheme!

Now there's a riveting title, but every word is true, I'm direct like that. A lot of people have been asking for this one but I wanted to wait in hopes that GW would send some of the new releases. Praise be to the Hive Mind, it has felt me thoughts and whispered it's call to action in response. Enjoy!

Grim Dark Cities of Sigmar!

Hails and cheers, traveler! Here lies my take on the new Cities of Sigmar. They have a nice balance of simplicity and detail which I appreciate. On that note I wanted to create a more washed out version of them. Game of thrones comes to mind, the bases being rough sea stones or maybe he's fully dressed for a visit to the pond. Either way I wanted to capture a certain character with these and am happy with the result. Enjoy!

Lord of the Pit: Prepping and Sculpting

Hails and cheers, Chromatic Warriors! I'm very excited about this one, the inspiration struck late in the night and I began kitbashing this monster. Well, I finished most of it during daylight hours, but the idea came in darkness. This one gives me a chance to share some sculpting and gap filling with a variety of materials. Enjoy!

Materials and tools used:
Epoxy putty, Milliput, Plastic putty, color shapers, swizzle sticks, and sand paper.

Watershaping

Well, well, well, it wasn't easy but I've finally cracked the code on resin pouring. Following a tutorial by Josuali miniature art found on massive Voodoo I got all the elements of business togther.

The resin I found worked really well compared to past mixtures. It's called Shabebe, here's a link:

Painting Angron for the Golden Demon Part 1: The Armor

This is going to be a big one! I've come into possession of Angron and at first wanted to paint him in a week, but then I came to my senses and while it's possible, the quality would suffer. So let's lay this one out in chapters. Angron will be back from time to time as I paint him to a competition quality. Enjoy!

Colors used: From the Army Painter, Rough Iron, True Copper, Greedy Gold, Shining Silver, Black, Plasmatic Bolt, and Dark Wood. The last two being Speed Paints. View Post

War in Hell!

Apologies for the delay, there was a music fest happening all weekend down town and the sounds were bleeding in when I tried to record the voice over. But here we are! Still smoking along on other projects and there will be another video this week.

Remember this guy? There have been serbacks on this one and I usually finish much faster. I'm happy to say he's complete and ready for the Nova Open. I captured footage while I was painting the back drop and am presenting it here. Enjoy!

WIP Orkorama!

Let slip the Snaggas of war. What started as a rectangle has grown into a fruitful oval. This was built up on Twitch and I still have some micro details to add, probably some grots as well.

After collecting and painting Orks for a long while in my early days, it's time to come back to my roots. Very excited to go green again :)

Watch That Pig, B.E.N.

The familiar sounds were faint on the wind as they walked from the farm. "Watch that pig B.E.N." That's what the farmer had told him, last he spoke. His mouth still moved, well, it churned inside in a way but no sound came out anymore. B.E.N. has his orders though and was made for this job. The pig seems to know how to find what it needs, B.E.N. will tag along. Out they wander.

B.E.N. stands for Biosphere Environment Navigator by the way. A big thanks to the chat on Twich for brainstor...

Theory and Composition: In Battle There Is No Law

The same goes in artwork! But I do have some suggestions to consider. I wanted to celebrate this piece a little because I'm proud of it. Not only the build but also how my experiment came out. Enjoy!

Watch That Pig

It all started with a trip to my local shop. One of those trips where you dont get what you came for but you leave with another project. I found some inspiration in the old pewter Battletech section. I won't question nyself much on how ny brain works but I looked at this and thought it should be watching over a pig.

The farmer is deceased but the robot is still following it's commands. "W...

Necron Combat Patrol!

Happy Sunday! This week was a ram-jammer but that's a good thing. This project was all technique, I could have taken it further but appreciate the process based approach you'd see more often in the scale modeling world. Enjoy!

This makes two Combat Patrol forces for me now and these fresh Necrons will be hitting the table twice today :)

Kneecrons!

Sunday night, the video on Uther was finally a wrap. Monday, what should I paint next? I cycled through about 5 ideas before I landed on this project. Sometimes it's like that though, you must walk the path even though you dont know where it ends.

But here we are! I had most of the models from the previous 40k starter box so I got to work. I want more of an industrial look. A pale white with pl...
