Here's a wip of the newest illustration I'm working on!
I finally decided on the colours... it was a pain, I'll be honest. But I'm finally happy to move on to rendering.
After I finish this illustration (before the end of the month!!!) I'm putting it together with the rest of my Bailin and LiYun comic into a small pdf for download, as I'd mentioned on my instagram. I know some of you are here for that, so it's coming soon!

Time for another illustration! I got inspired to draw him again...
Here's a bit of my process. I do a rough sketch, and then I block in the illustration with grayscale, taking care to make sure my values show where I want my focal point to be. I still think my style is too "realistic"; I want to stylize it a bit more. But I'm fairly pleased with how this turned out in general. Clip Studio's default watercolour brushes are really quite amazing; photoshop feels clunky in comparison.

Huge before and after!! I've included the before image for comparison. They're pretty much two completely different styles, one very rendered and painted, the other much more graphic. The rendered style is harder, so I went that route to challenge myself. Which style do you like better?
Not much to talk about this one in general... values composition is always a struggle. I'm not 100 % satisfied, but you gotta know when you gotta stop. Lighting under water is a huge challeng...

Experimenting with style and process. I'm still not quite sure about it. Quality and efficiency are hard to balance... you always have to sacrifice one to get more of the other.
Hope it isn't too spoilerly, hehe, this was only meant to be an experiment but I did use some canonical plot points.

Ah, this is a bit different compared to my old painterly style, isn't it. I've sort of started to deviate away from that old style... it's unpolished and I don't know where to take it anymore, and it's a style that I feel like I was forced into due to a lack of expertise.
